A profile of poverty in the PWV
This document, compiled by staff of the Development Policy and Planning Unit of the Human Sciences Research Council, presents a profile of living standards and poverty in the Pretoria-Witwatersrand-Vaal Triangle (PWV). One of the main purposes of this report is to review the state of the available information, and to highlight key gaps and shortcomings. We have not attempted to provide a comprehensive definition of poverty, but rather to present information that highlights the plight of the poor in the midst of affluence, provide a partial explanation for the inequalities that exist, and indicate the areas where policies and programmes should be directed
