    Characteristics of bathymetry and subseafloor geological structure of shelf slope basin off the south-eastern Boso Peninsula

    房総半島南東沖では,海溝三重点に近いことから,地下深部構造についてはよく調査されている.しかし,表層地質構造についての研究例はほとんどない.そこで本研究では,2024年6月17日から2024年6月21日の期間に実施された海洋資源エネルギー学実習Ⅱにおいて,房総半島東方沖の陸棚斜面盆地について,予察的に海底地形調査および海底下浅部地質構造の調査を実施した.その結果,陸棚斜面盆地は起伏の緩やかな海底面となっており,完新統と考えられる堆積物が比較的厚く堆積していることがわかった.さらに,地層中に流体に由来する反射と考えられるサイスミックチムニーが複数入ることが明らかになった.Off the south-eastern Boso Peninsula, there are a lot of studies about the deep subseafloor geological structure have been published due to the high interest in its tectonic location in the proximity to the triple junction of three plates, Pacific Ocean, North America and Philippine Sea plates. However, there are few studies on geological structure of the surface layer. In this study, we investigated preliminarily the bathymetry and a shallow subseafloor structure in the shelf-slope basin of southeast off the Boso Peninsula during part of the Marine Resources and Energy Studies Practicum II from 17 June to 21 June, 2024. The results show that the shelf-slope basin has a flat seafloor surface with almost no irregularities, and relatively thick sediments equivalent to Holocene.     Simulation and experimental study of multiple defect detection in billet from time-of-flight profile by transmission method with linear scanning

    In this study, the validity of the detection of multiple defects in a billet by time-of-flight (TOF) profile and transmission method with linear scanning are evaluated through simulation and experimentation. Simulation results show that TOF measured using the transmission method has higher lateral resolution than using echoes from the defects. Although distinguishing each defect from the TOF profiles becomes difficult when defects are close together, the size of the defect should not be underestimated. As the TOF profiles are consistent between the simulation and experimental results, it is believed that the verification results of the TOF-linear method by simulation are valid.公開日: 2025-08-23journal articl

    Natural oscillations in Tokyo Bay excited by tsunami and amplification of sea surface fluctuation due to their superposition superposition

    In this study, we investigated the natural oscillation in the complex topography of Tokyo Bay and the amplification mechanism due to their superposition through numerical experiments. First, an experiment was conducted in which waves were applied that simulated the tsunami caused by the Tohoku Pacific Coast Earthquake in March 2011, and the formation of natural oscillation in Tokyo Bay and its vibration form were investigated. Natural oscillations throughout the bay were excited with periods of 333 minutes, 111 minutes, and 73 minutes. Periods of 333 minutes and 111 minutes are vibrations of the entire Tokyo Bay with mainly along bay velocity components, which are the first and second modes of natural oscillation, respectively. It was found that the periods of 73 minutes is the third mode which have vibrations of the along bay velocity component from the bay mouth to offshore Kawasaki and the east-west velocity oscillation near the bay head. In actual measurements of tsunamis in Harumi, Tokyo Port, etc., it was observed that the amplitude gradually amplified from the first wave to the third wave, and then attenuated. The observed amplitude variation was explained by the "beat" that is due to the superposition of the local natural oscillation and the third mode of the entire bay. Next, we investigated the characteristics of the natural oscillations that form within Tokyo Bay in response to tsunamis of various periods that propagate from outside Tokyo Bay. As a result, it is indicated that the amplitude of each natural oscillation period included in the periodic component of the incident wave determines the amplitude of each natural oscillation period formed in the bay and finally determines the amplitude of the composed wave.公開日: 2025-07-3122H00172journal articl
