Early Home Visiting Delivery Model and Maternal and Child Mental Health at Primary School Age
We study the impacts of a prenatal and infancy home visiting program targeting disadvantaged families on mental health outcomes, assessed through diagnostic interviews. The program significantly reduced the prevalence of mental health conditions for both mothers and children, measured at primary-school age, and broke the intergenerational association of these conditions. The impacts are predominantly associated with a particular delivery model, wherein a single home visitor interacts with the family, as opposed to a model involving two home visitors

Interdisziplinäre Lehre für nachhaltige Entwicklung
In diesem Band werden die Beiträge der ersten Konferenz „Interdisziplinäre Lehre für nachhaltige Entwicklung“ an der Technischen Hochschule Nürnberg Georg Simon Ohm aus dem Jahr 2023 präsentiert. Die inhaltliche Vielfalt der 13 Beiträge verdeutlicht, dass die Diskussion der Interdisziplinarität in der hochschulgebundenen Ausbildung junger Menschen für die sich transformierende Gesellschaft gerade erst begonnen hat. Vorgestellt werden unterschiedlich wissenschaftlich verankerte und praxisorientierte Modelle zur Vermittlung notwendiger Kompetenzen, um gesellschaftliche Zukunft zu gestalten. Es gilt am Ball zu bleiben, den Austausch fortzusetzen und Chancen für interdisziplinäre Kooperationen für die Bildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung (BNE) zu identifizieren und zu ergreifen. Die Open Source Publikation soll in diesem Sinne Anschlusskommunikation ermöglichen
An AI-Based Virtual Client for Educational Role-Playing in the Training of Online Counselors
Large-area organic photovoltaic modules with 14.5% certified world record efficiency
Organic photovoltaics (OPVs) have experienced a significant increase in power conversion efficiency (PCE) recently, now approaching 20% on small-cell level. Since the efficiencies on the module level are still substantially lower, focused upscaling research is necessary to reduce the gap between cells and modules. In this work, we present the upscaling of PM6:Y6-C12:PC 61 BM-based devices, processed in ambient air from non-halogenated solvents, from small-area cells to large-area modules with barely any performance loss. Supported by computational fluid dynamics simulations, an acceler-
ated blade coating process that enables homogeneous coatings with <5% thickness deviation over 200 cm 2 is developed. Additional finite element method simulations are used to optimize the module layout and minimize the inevitable losses caused by electrode resistances and inactive interconnect areas to 1.9% and 3.5%, respectively. Finally, a 204-cm 2 OPV module with a certified PCE of 14.5% (15.0% on active area) is fabricated, which constitutes the new world record
War, international spillovers, and adolescents: Evidence from Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022
Using novel longitudinal data, this paper studies the short- and medium-term effects of Russia's invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022 on social trust of adolescents in Germany. Comparing adolescents who responded to our survey shortly before the start of the war with those who responded shortly after the conflict began and applying difference-in-differences (DiD) models over time, we find a significant decline in the outcome after the war started. These findings provide new evidence on how armed conflicts influence social trust and well-being among young people in a country not directly involved in the war
Helping Students to Succeed – The Long-Term Effects of Soft Commitments and Reminders
To study whether a soft commitment device can help students succeed, we conduct a randomized field experiment and follow a cohort of tertiary students over six years. Students can commit to following their recommended study program structure, and they receive reminders each semester. This easily implementable, low-cost intervention is highly effective: it increases the five-year graduation rate (+15 percentage points) and reduces time to graduation (-0.42 semesters), driven by reduced dropout and an increase in credits obtained per semester. The effects are stronger for suspected procrastinators. A treatment only reminding students to follow the program structure has limited effects
Plant-based Food Supply Chains : Recognising Market Opportunities and Industry Challenges of Pea Protein
Plant-based protein food products are considered healthier, more nutritious, and substantially ‘greener’ than meat-based dietary offerings. For reasons such as these plant protein sources including peas/legumes, soy and algae are experiencing unpre-cedented market popularity. Amidst the multitude of alternative protein-based foods on offer, peas are the most promising plant-protein source as they contain all the essential amino acids and have a well-balanced nutritional profile in terms of fat and fibre. However, understanding the extent of the market feasibility of the respective pea protein supply chains (SCs), based on practical expertise, is of utmost importance for policymakers and industrialists alike to evaluate the growth potential of peas as a protein source. To this end, a survey was conducted among pea SC stakeholders to create an understanding of the level of market feasibility of pea protein-based products. A SWOT analysis consolidated the different views and resulted in the
identification of specific strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats within the industry. By focusing on understanding the challenges and prospects within peaprotein product SCs, this research provides a springboard for further research investigations into related plant protein-based products. The resulting blueprint of recommended initiatives can help inform the further development of pea protein SCs
