    Municipal Tasks and Financing

    No full text
This an Open access book. It provides a comparative and multidisciplinary analysis of how local governments perform their tasks and how these are financed. The volume stands out with three essential features. First, the comparative research reflected in the volume has a global geographical scope because it is the outcome of a Horizon 2020 project involving 18 partners from six continents. Therefore, it includes highly topical and so far under-researched case studies beyond just the European continent. Secondly, we look at the above-mentioned topics from a timely urban-rural perspective, as the ultimate aim is to explore the impact of the phenomenon of urbanisation on local governments and the response of urban and rural municipalities. Thirdly, the book focuses within broader research on municipal tasks and finances on several specific topics that have been revealed by our project as particularly relevant. These are public transport policies of urban and rural local governments, different ways of public service provision like PPP and public enterprises, financial equalization between urban and rural municipalities, as well as special fees as alternative sources of local revenue

Corporate Social Responsibility in Football Associations

    No full text
This Open Access book examines how football’s governing bodies translate their public CSR commitments into everyday practice. Focusing on UEFA, the German Football Association (DFB) and a representative regional federation, it traces CSR from continental headquarters to local grassroots, revealing where lofty pledges of sustainability, diversity and community engagement prosper—and where they falter. Drawing on fourteen semi-structured interviews with senior officials and practitioners, the study exposes a persistent gap between externally promoted initiatives and the internal processes that should sustain them. It shows that CSR only achieves lasting impact when it is embedded in strategic planning, aligned with core football operations and subjected to rigorous monitoring. By presenting a grounded framework and practical guideline for associations at every tier, the author offers both scholars and decision-makers a roadmap for moving beyond performative gestures towards genuinely responsible governance in the world’s most influential sport

This book illuminates different facets of medical devices in a holistic manner. It describes the complexity of the industry, markets, manufacturers, and numerous other stakeholders as well as related regulations, required competencies, and future trends. More specifically, it describes a range of products and innovations, safety risks and regulations, legal aspects, and certification processes. It also examines the market from the point of view of the manufacturer from start-ups to large companies and conglomerates. Finally, this book looks at the special role sustainability and ESG plays in the future of medical device innovation, production, and usage. Featuring industry case studies this book is ideal for individuals, from scientists to managers, interested in healthcare and who would like to understand the overall relevance of medical devices from different perspectives, specifically interactions, developments and dynamics between the different business areas and stakeholders. Of People, Land and Bonds

    No full text
Via three exemplary chapters the authors present the results of the DFG-funded research project entitled ‚Man Rent or Land Rent? Significance and function of land transfer for the practice of lordship of kings, lay lords and ecclesiastics in north-east Scotland in the later Middle Ages‘. This volume tried to offer a modified perspective on the organisation of the political society in late Medieval Scotland, formed through the bottom-up view of regional lordship and its respective sources. Scottish history should not only be told from the perspective of crown, magnates and the sources produced by and for them but bottom-up: There are large enough quantities of mostly underused sources stemming from clerical institutions, nobility and the burghs, which can further enhance our knowledge of the political structure and the socio-economic composition of the kingdom
