Mechanism of Composite Explosion Inhibition and Venting Protections
This open access book examines the mechanisms of composite explosion inhibition and venting protection. It focuses on the characteristics and influencing factors of methane–coal dust two-phase mixture explosions, including: · The inhibition of methane/coal dust hybrid explosions using ultrafine water mist · The suppression characteristics of ultrafine water mist on gas/dust two-phase mixture explosions · The venting behavior of gas/dust two-phase explosions and the factors that influence it In particular, this book clarifies the mechanisms behind vapor cloud explosions and the chain reactions triggered by explosion venting flames. While current research has primarily concentrated on suppressing explosions of single flammable substances using ultrafine water mist, this work emphasizes the importance of understanding flame propagation dynamics and explosion parameters under varying mist conditions. Gathering accurate experimental data is essential for revealing the inhibition mechanisms of gas/dust hybrid explosions. The venting process involves complex coupling effects, including multiphase reactions, interphase heat and mass transfer, and turbulence, all influenced by numerous variables. Therefore, this book provides critical insights for both practical applications and the theoretical understanding of explosion inhibition and venting mechanisms
A Digital Europe for Citizens
This "open access" book presents the Proceedings of the First International Conference “A Digital Europe for Citizens”, which was organised by the Jean Monnet Module DigEUCit, “A Digital Europe for Citizens. Constitutional and Policymaking Challenges” and the CIJ (Centre for Interdisciplinary Research on Justice, Faculty of Law, University of Porto). It focuses on three main topics – data governance, digital markets, and digital services – and brings together chapters written by legal experts who address the EU’s accomplishments and future perspectives on the ongoing Digital Revolution, as well as the impact of digitalisation on the EU. Comparisons with other legal systems are also included. Adopting a holistic perspective with a focus on citizens, the book contends that constitutionalism must also be viewed in its role of ensuring democracy, an open and inclusive society, and a fair economy. It pursues an original, cross-sectoral and cutting-edge approach. In addition to discussing fundamental values and principles, the contributing authors address concrete and practical questions that arise from the EU’s policy and legal framework. The aim is to bring constitutionalism to the digital stage and to advance solutions and a proper framework, building on solid foundations. This comprehensive work will be of interest to legal scholars, academics, researchers and practitioners in the areas of European and constitutional law, data protection, competition and consumer law, as well as a larger audience of policymakers and digital entrepreneurs
Patient-focused Development of Biopharmaceutical Products
This open access book builds the case for the business motivation, techniques, and approaches to use in development of a medicinal product for human therapy, whether delivered via an oral dose form (“pill” or solution) or a delivery system (device). It shares the growing demands by patients and caregivers, as well as regulators, for designs which are most easily understood and usable, and which can ensure the medication can be consistently delivered and will, therefore, allow best outcomes. The book weaves skills in “human-centered design” into the design of medicinal delivery systems. It would be a reference for those in academia studying pharmacokinetics, formulation or product design and development, as well as those in the development of biopharmaceutical therapies. This is an open access book
Proceedings of 1st GENZERO Workshop
This Open Access volume compiles peer-reviewed research at the GENZERO Workshop on Security and Autonomous Systems, hosted by the Technology Innovation Institute in Abu Dhabi in November 2024. As a leading event in the fields of security of autonomous systems and generative AI, the workshop emphasizes the expansion of Zero Trust architecture across a variety of autonomous platforms. It highlights the critical importance of protecting Physical AI systems—such as drones, unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs), and humanoid robots—from cyberattacks, which have the potential to cause significant harm. The proceedings feature theoretical models, practical frameworks, and real-world applications of large language models and other generative AI techniques aimed at enhancing security, resilience, and intelligence in UAV collectives, robotics, and other autonomous systems. Ensuring security has become a paramount challenge as these systems become increasingly complex and self-directed. The studies presented here focus on breakthroughs in distributed intelligence, secure communications, and real-time anomaly detection, offering actionable strategies for aerospace, defense, and critical infrastructure industries. Forward-looking discussions also explore how machine learning and AI-driven approaches could redefine safety and security standards, particularly in autonomous decision-making and continuous operations. Collectively, this volume provides invaluable insights for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers working toward robust and trustworthy autonomous solutions while also addressing pressing challenges and emerging opportunities in this rapidly evolving field

Video Games and Mental Health
How do video games and mental health intersect from the perspectives of psychology and game design? In recent years, the topic of mental health has gained tremendous importance for the games industry, affecting both the applied and entertainment games sectors. The former draws from established practices in diagnostics, digital medicine, therapy, and self-help to develop innovative and accessible tools; the latter follows in the tradition of games d'auteur, addressing the topic of mental health from a personal perspective. The contributors to this volume inspect current trends and future perspectives related to these phenomena to inform the work of psychologists and game designers
