Promoting K-12 Civic Learning and Engagement Through Assessment is a comprehensive guide to the assessment of civic learning in primary and secondary education contexts. Today’s schools have a responsibility to teach learners how to critically evaluate information, understand the rights and responsibilities of citizenship, and engage with people whose perspectives and experiences differ from their own. This book provides a vision for testing, measurement, and assessment efforts that support this broad vision of high-quality civic learning for all students. The first section sets the stage for the rest of the volume by exploring historical, conceptual, and technological foundations of civic learning and assessment. Characterisation of Fermented Grain-based Raw Materials and Foods
The importance of plant-based food fermentation and the need for analytical methods. Food fermentation is a complex yet highly relevant topic in food science today and is very likely to remain so for years to come. It is a technology that can enhance the sensory attributes, health-related properties, and shelf life of a wide variety of foods. Typical of food fermentation processes is that they induce numerous changes in the raw material or food matrix, including various (bio)chemical conversions of food constituents. To fully unlock the potential of grain-based food fermentation processes, a robust analytical toolbox, specifically developed for fermented raw materials and foods, is essential. Artificial Intelligence and Education in the Global South
This open access book examines the dynamic intersection of artificial intelligence and education in the Global South, where resource constraints and demographic trends create unique challenges and opportunities. Adopting a systems perspective, it explores how AI can transform teaching, curriculum, assessment, teacher professional development, school leadership and system governance while addressing AI literacy, improving the effectiveness of education and developing transferable skills. The book highlights the risks of exacerbating existing inequalities if technology is not carefully integrated and stresses the importance of human-centered, locally adapted solutions. The book examines whether AI is supporting innovation or the transformation of education systems and how it is addressing the principal most vexing challenges with respect to the areas examined. Grounding Digitalization
Digitalization is usually perceived as an invisible process and its cultural embeddedness as well as its material, spatial, and environmental grounding are often neglected. However, digital technologies and transformations are shaped not only by cultural values, practices, and imaginaries, but also by network infrastructures and spatial orders. They consume environmental resources and cause high carbon dioxide emissions and electronic waste. At the same time, these materialities intervene in spaces, thereby reconfiguring socio-spatial arrangements.
