Investigation of the use of glycerin as a by-product, pomace oil and paper wastewater as grinding aids in marble dust wastes
Waste management in marble processing plants is a considerable problem in countries with developed stone industries and trade. Research on the utilization of stone waste in different fields is still continuing. However, there are few studies on using this stone waste from processing plants as mineral fillers. Moreover, no study in the literature has investigated the influence of grinding aids on stone properties. The current research is the first to compare of the efficiency of different grinding aids on the waste calcitic and dolomitic marble in the production of mineral fillers. The objective of this work is to research the impacts of waste and by-products on the dry grinding of stone wastes as grinding aids in a vertical stirred media mill. The results were assessed in terms of various parameters: product particle size, powder flowability, material coating on the grinding media, and energy consumption. Remarkably, the study showed that the use of any of the grinding aids tested enhanced the grinding process in comparison with the no -aid condition. The best product fineness value was achieved with pomace oil followed by the byproduct glycerin, among the grinding aids tested in both samples. Moreover, a higher media coating reduction and the highest energy saving were achieved with pomace oil. The most significant and lowest increase in the fluidity index was achieved with pomace oil and paper wastewater, respectively. Additionally, the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) performed to reveal the interaction between particle surfaces and grinding aids demonstrated the activity of pomace oil and glycerin polar functional groups on particle surfaces. The analysis of the agglomeration phenomenon with SEM (scanning electron microscopy) micrographs showed that particle agglomeration could be eliminated with the pomace oil. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) was used to investigate changes in the mass of the samples' due to temperature changes. With this study, a significant contribution will be made to the ecosystem using waste marble powder whose storage problematic. (c) 2024 The Society of Powder Technology Japan. Efficacy and Safety Analysis of Botox Application and Iatrogenic Botulism: Panacea or Peril?
Clostridium botulinum toxin-A (BoNT-A) creates temporary paralysis in the muscles by acting on the muscle-nerve junction. It is injected into the mimic muscles when a decrease in the movements of the mimic muscles is desired. Despite many favorable applications, the use of BoNT-A is not without drawbacks. Although there is no expected serious side effect on health in BoNT-A treatments, various problems can be encountered in patients treated for aesthetic purposes. Botulism is a rare but potentially life-threatening syndrome, which is caused by the toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, which acts on the nervous system, vegetative forms of C. botulinum can only survive in anaerobic conditions, while spore forms are common in nature and can withstand harsh conditions. Botulism can stem from bacterial spores which release toxin in the body; in the form of enteric botulism, and wound botulism. The cases that develop 'iatrogenic botulism' after such procedures are usually those receiving high-dose toxin for therapeutic purposes. The treatment of botulism mainly consists of anti-toxin therapy and, if necessary, intensive care to prevent organ failures, including respiratory support. This article aims to cover all these issues related to botulism and other adverse outcomes related to BoNT-A injection in light of the most recent literature

Evaluation of Depression Levels in Patients With Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma Using the Geriatric Depression Scale
Introduction Glaucoma is a chronic disease that can lead to severe visual impairment and blindness. Methods The study included 91 primary open-angle glaucoma patients aged 60 years and older (group 1) and 83 healthy controls (group 2) with similar age and gender distribution. The duration of the disease, the number of anti-glaucomatous drops used daily, and visual field parameters were recorded. All participants then underwent a comprehensive mental status examination by a psychiatrist and were administered the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS). Results In Group 1, the mean duration of glaucoma was 10.2 +/- 6.0 years, and the mean number of drops used per day was 2.91 +/- 1.47 drops/day. According to visual field (24-2) data, the mean mean deviation (MD) was-7.76 +/- 4.78 dB and the mean pattern standard deviation (PSD) was 5.14 +/- 2.60 dB. According to the classification based on MD, 33 (36.3%) patients were in the early stage, 36 (39.5%) in the intermediate stage, and 22 (24.2%) in the advanced stage. The mean best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 0.85 +/- 0.38 logMAR in group 1 and 0.34 +/- 0.19 logMAR in group 2. The mean GDS scores were 13.7 +/- 7.23 points in group 1 and 3.61 +/- 1.71 points in group 2. There were statistically significant differences between the groups in terms of BCVA and GDS scores (p=0.039 and p<0.001, respectively). Conclusion In conclusion, it is important that ophthalmologists provide adequate information about glaucoma to prevent the development of depression in patients with glaucoma. This information may protect patients from uncertainty. A multidisciplinary approach in the management of glaucoma, a chronic and vision-threatening disease, can positively affect patients' compliance with follow-up and treatment, increase the quality of healthcare, and improve treatment responses

Outage Probability Analysis of RIS-Assisted System over Weibull/Rayleigh Fading Channels
6th Global Power, Energy and Communication Conference (GPECOM) -- JUN 04-07, 2024 -- Budapest, HUNGARYIn upcoming communication systems, particularly beyond fifth-generation (B5G) and sixth-generation (6G), reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) are anticipated to offer significant advancements. This study analyzes the outage probability of an RIS-aided communication system under Weibull and Rayleigh fading conditions. The proposed system model assumes Weibull fading for the channel between the source and RIS, while Rayleigh fading is assumed for the channel between RIS and destination. Numerical simulations are conducted across various configurations to assess the impact of different fading parameters, reflective surface elements, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and instantaneous SNR threshold values. Comparative analysis between the results obtained from the derived expression and exact results is presented. Notably, the analytical and simulation results exhibit strong consistency, indicating the robustness of the proposed approach.IEEENuh Naci Yazgan University Electronics and Software Application and Research CenterThe authors thank the Nuh Naci Yazgan University Electronics and Software Application and Research Center for their support

Encapsulation and drying methods in the production of powdered red cabbage (Brassica oleracea L.): Chemometrics and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy
In this study, powder colorant was obtained from red cabbage (Brassica oleracea L.). The stability of the colorants obtained by spray and freeze drying was investigated in terms of antioxidant capacity and anthocyanin content. The yield of the products increased with the encapsulation for both drying methods and encapsulation application. Drying method and encapsulation application had a significant effect on most of the physical properties of powders except for flowability and adhesiveness values. An increase in L*, a*, and C values was observed with the encapsulation process. Antioxidant activity of the samples increased with the encapsulation process by 13.44% in the spray-dried samples, while it increased by 9.75% in the freeze-dried samples. Total monomeric anthocyanin content was detected as 9039.21 mg/kg for encapsulated freeze-dried samples and 7811 mg/kg for encapsulated spray-dried ones. Nine anthocyanins were detected in the samples by using high-performance liquid chromatography. To discriminate samples according to drying methods with/without encapsulation principal component analysis (PCA) was used based on the Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) data. Four groups were observed for the PCA. The chemometric evaluation was done to predict the antioxidant capacity, anthocyanin content, and individual anthocyanins using FTIR spectra. High correlations were observed between the calculated and reference values for partial least square regression analysis.Omer Halisdemir Universitesi [GTB 2018/12-BAGEP]The authors disclosed receipt of the following financial support for the research, authorship, and/or publication of this article: This work was supported by the Omer Halisdemir Universitesi (grant number GTB 2018/12-BAGEP)
The effect of perceived stress and social support in pregnancy on threatened preterm labor
Anahtar Sözcükler: Erken doğum tehdidi, stres, sosyal destek, hemşirelikIn this master's thesis, it was aimed to determine the effect of perceived stress and social support during pregnancy on threatened preterm labour (TPL). This cross-sectional study was conducted with 371 pregnant women. Data were collected using the "Descriptive Information Form", "Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale" and "Prenatal Psychosocial Profile (PPP)". The mean age of the pregnant women who participated in the study was 26.5±4.6 years and 30.2% were university graduates. The rate of TPL diagnosis was found to be 23.2%. The mean scores of pregnant women diagnosed with TPL were higher in the stress subscale of the PPP and lower in the social support-partner and social support-environment subscales compared to those who were not diagnosed with TPL (p<0.05). It was determined that the perceived stress level during pregnancy (OR:1.05; 95% CI:1.00-1.10) and hospitalization due to TPL in the previous pregnancy (OR:5.92; 95% CI:1.71-20.47) increased the likelihood of being diagnosed with TPL (p<0.05). It was found that the likelihood of being diagnosed with TPL decreased when pregnant women had health insurance (OR:0.42; 95% CI:0.24- 0.75) and when the social support they perceived from their immediate environment increased (OR:0.97; 95% CI:0.96-0.98; p<0.05). It is necessary to increase the awareness of health professionals and pregnant women about the fact that the presence of a history of TPL in the past, increased perceived stress level during pregnancy, decreased social support from the immediate environment and lack of health insurance increase the likelihood of being diagnosed with TPL.
