    Get PDF
This study aimed to evaluate the impact of Community-Based Sheep Breeding Program (CBSBP) on gross profit and lamb mortality by comparing participated farms and non-participated farms by focusing on the case of Akkaraman breed in Nigde province of Turkey. The primary data were collected from 108 sheep farms, 54 farms participated and 54 farms those did not participate in the sheep breeding program. According to average treatment effect results derived by utilizing propensity score matching method, if all farms would participate to CBSBP, each farm acquired 6209.13 Turkish Lira (1094.92 USD) more gross profit and would be 3.47% less lamb mortality rate in the farms. The study indicated that CBSBP provided significant economic benefit and welfare of animal. Hence, further supporting and scaling up of community-based small ruminant breeding programs appears to be one of the best solutions for improving livestock genetic resources of rural communities in developing countries. Accordingly, incentive mechanisms for participating in breeding programs should be more focused on small-scale family farms and especially the young people in the rural area

Purpose: This study aimed to examine current global practices in regenerative therapy (RT) for erectile dysfunction (ED) and to establish expert recommendations for its use, addressing the current lack of solid evidence and standardized guidelines. Materials and Methods: A 39-question survey was developed by senior Global Andrology Forum (GAF) experts to comprehensively cover clinical aspects of RT. This was distributed globally via a secure online Google Form to ED specialists through the GAF website, international professional societies, and social media, the responses were analyzed and presented for frequencies as percentages. Consensus on expert recommendations for RT use was achieved using the Delphi method. Results: Out of 479 respondents from 62 countries, a third reported using RT for ED. The most popular treatment was low-intensity shock wave therapy (54.6%), followed by platelet-rich plasma (24.5%) and their combination (14.7%), with stem cell therapy being the least used (3.7%). The primary indication for RT was the refractory or adverse effects of PDE5 inhibitors, with the best effectiveness reported in middle-aged and mild-to-moderate ED patients. Respondents were confident about its overall safety, with a significant number expressing interest in RT's future use, despite pending guidelines support. Conclusions: This inaugural global survey reveals a growing use of RT in ED treatment, showcasing its diverse clinical applications and potential for future widespread adoption. However, the lack of comprehensive evidence and clear guidelines requires further research to standardize RT practices in ED treatment. The authors are thankful to the following societies for pro- moting the online survey through the efforts of their members, Arab Association of Urology, Arab British Urological Society, Austrian Society of Urology, Egyptian Urological Association and Egyptian Society of Andrology, Indonesian Urological Society, Saudi Urological Society and Turkish Urology Associa- tion. A SEARCH FOR LEPTONIC PHOTON, Z l , AT ALL THREE CLIC ENERGY STAGES BY USING ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORKS (ANN)

    Get PDF
In this work, the possible dynamics of the massive leptonic photon Z l are reconsidered via the e + e - -> mu + mu - process at the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) with the updated center-of-mass energies (380, 1500, and 3000 GeV). We show that new generation colliders as CLIC can observe the massive leptophilic vector boson Z l with mass up to the center-ofmass energy, provided that the leptonic coupling constant is g l >= 10 - 3 . In this study, we also estimated the cross sections by artificial neural networks using the theoretical results we obtained for CLIC. According to the results obtained, it was seen that these predictions could be made through machine learning.SCOAP3Funded by SCOAP3 under Creative Commons License, CC-BY 4.0

Protective effect of misoprostol against paclitaxel-induced cardiac damage in rats

    Get PDF
Objective: One of the most critical reasons for limiting cancer treatment is the toxic effects of anti-cancer drugs on healthy tissues and organs. This study aims to investigate the possible protective effects of misoprostol (MS) against the damage that arises from paclitaxel (PT), an anti-cancer pharmacological agent, in the rat heart using histopathological and biochemical analyses. Methods: In this study, four groups, each containing seven animals, were formed by random selection from 28 Sprague Dawley female rats. Control group rats were administered 1 ml of normal saline orally and intrapertoneally (i.p.) for six days. While the PT group rats were administered PT at a dose of 2 mg/kg intraperitoneally (i.p.) on days 0, 2, 4, and 6, the MS group was administered MS at a dose of 0.2 mg/kg in 1 ml normal saline by oral gavage for six days. PT and MS were administered to the PT +MS group rats in the same dose and route as the previous groups. Results: Administration of PT increased serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), cardiac troponin I (cTn-I), creatine kinase isoenzyme MB (CK-MB), and brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) levels. PT administration also decreased the levels of glutathione (GSH), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) in the heart tissue while increasing the level of malondialdehyde (MDA) (p <0.05). In histopathological examinations, pathological changes, such as edema, congestion, hemorrhage, apoptosis, and degeneration, occurred in the heart tissue of PT-treated rats. The negative changes in histopathological and biochemical parameters that occurred in the PT group were almost not observed in the PT +MS group (p <0.005). Conclusion: When the findings were evaluated, it was concluded that MS protects the heart tissue from the harmful effects of PT, probably due to its antioxidant, anti-apoptotic and TNF-alpha suppressive effects

This study determined the effect of layer age, egg-laying time, cage tier, and cage direction (outward-inward) on egg quality parameters of commercial layer chickens reared in enriched cages. A total of 944 layers (approximately 100 eggs every four weeks, from the 26 to the 58th week) obtained from Lohmann LSL-Classic layers reared at the Nigde Omer Halisdemir University Ayhan & Scedil;ahenk Agricultural Application and Research Centre were analyzed. Laying hen age significantly affected all the egg quality variables (p0.05). Furthermore, it was found that cage direction had a significant effect on egg weight, shell thickness, egg surface area, and all the internal egg quality traits, except for yolk color score (p<0.05; p<0.01). In conclusion, our results highlight significant changes in egg quality traits due to layer age, egg-laying time, cage tier, and cage direction

Parameter Calibration of Chaboche Kinematic Hardening Model by Inverse Analysis Using Different Optimization Methods in the Case of Pipe Bending

    Get PDF
Drag link is one of the important parts in steering system used in automotive. The ball joint, ball joint housing, and pipe compose the drag link. In this study, finite element analysis is used to simulate the deformation process. St 52 steel material is used. A yield criterion, an associated flow rule, and Chaboche's kinematic hardening rule were used in the finite element simulations of processes involving high plastic deformation. A series of low-cycle tensile/compression tests is performed to determine the parameters of Chaboche's kinematic hardening rule. The success of the simulation results depends on the more accuracy of the finding parameters. Some optimization methods are used in the calibration progression of these parameters and the results are compared. For the purpose of optimization, the angle of the pipe after bending is set as 16.6° as soon as possible. As design variables, the Chaboche kinematic hardening rule parameters were adjusted. Consequently, calibrated parameters were obtained for St52 pipe bending. By analysing and verifying the candidate points, optimization methods are compared. The optimum parameters are determined as JSH350 MPa, C=2984.3 MPa, and ^=100 while their initial values are Y5K373.806 MPa, C=4016 MPa, and y=94. It is concluded that the optimization process gives more consistency in the bending process. © 2024 Society of Automotive Engineers Turkey. To contribute to the skill development of primary school children, textbooks stand out as a critical tool in the educational process. Textbooks not only provide children with knowledge, but also teach them practical skills that they can use throughout their lives. The skills that children acquire through textbooks guide them not only in the classroom but also in their daily lives. Skills such as problem solving, communication and social participation help children cope with the challenges they face. These skills strengthen their social relationships, increase their self-confidence and contribute to the acquisition of life skills. In this study, based on the skills called basic life skills in the 2018 Life Science Course Curriculum, it was aimed to determine which of these skills are included in the Social Studies Course Curriculum, which started to be implemented in 2018, as well as the statements that point to these skills in the texts in the textbook approved by the Ministry of National Education and taught in primary school fourth grades. Qualitative research design was used in the study. Document analysis method was used to collect and analyze the data. According to the results obtained from the research, it was seen that there are a total of 10 common basic life skills in the 2018 Life Studies Curriculum and 2018 Social Studies Curriculum. In addition, the textbook taught in the fourth grade of primary school contains all of the common basic life skills, but the textbook expressions related to the skill do not show a balanced distribution both in learning areas and throughout the book
