    This study presents the results of two cross-sectional surveys on Social Media (SM) and Internet usage of Poles. One of the surveys was a classical representative random sampling-based panel, and the other was a survey administered through the online panel. By pinpointing the differences and similarities between the results of these two cross-sectional studies, we describe the differences inherent to these two sample types. The current research reports on SM and Internet use in the Polish sample also serve as instructive examples in representative sampling

    The Influence of Alpha-Element Abundance on Planet Populations and Composition

    The exact mechanisms of planetary formation remains one of the dominant areas of research in planetary astronomy. Though there are extant prevailing theories (e.g., pebble accretion, core accretion, etc.) for different planets, degeneracies between these theories can make it difficult to resolve how exactly a particular planet formed, or to make predictions on what conditions might be favorable for planet formation. Though the effect of host star metallicity on planet occurrence rates and the correlation between metallicity and planet mass have been well-established, the effect of stellar elemental abundances, particularly that of α-elements, remains comparatively less studied. The goal of this study is to examine planetary compositions, particularly those of rocky planets, through the lens of elemental abundances of their host stars. We determine a functional form [α/Fe]= AeB·[Fe/H]+C + D with fitting parameters A = 0.083, B = -2.025, C = -0.140, and D = -0.046 that describes the value of α-element abundance as a function of metallicity and determine an overall negative correlation between α-element abundance and metallicity for all planet populations except Sub-Saturns due to lack of available metallicity data. Using the planetary interior modeling software ExoPlex, we determine a strong positive correlation between core mass fraction (CMF) and surface gravity, with planetary mass correlating to a combination of these variables.No embargoAcademic Major: Astronomy and Astrophysic

    Interview conducted at The Ohio State University Archives, Columbus, Ohio.Rick Van Brimmer came to Ohio State first as an undergraduate, and he eventually served as the Assistant Vice President of Advancement Affinity and Trademark Management. Van Brimmer earned a bachelor's degree in communications, and he also earned a master's degree in Sports Management. After graduation, he worked for two years for the University of Mississippi, then he returned to the OSU Department of Athletics to work in its Office of Sports Information. During that time, he met Anne Chasser, the founder of OSU's Office of Trademark and Licensing, and she hired him as an editor. When Chasser left for another position, the University offered that job to Van Brimmer. In the interview, Van Brimmer discusses the many changes that occurred during his 30-plus career as the head of Trademark and Licensing, including the huge increase in licensing income, and the changes in distribution of that income to various OSU sources, such as the Libraries and student scholarships. He also discusses his involvement in the Collegiate Social Responsibility Movement, which developed labor and environmental standards for universities' trademark and licensing vendors to follow. In addition, he discusses his development of undergraduate courses to help students learn real-world situations as they relate to marketing. Van Brimmer also discusses the misperception people have about who benefits from trademark and licensing, and why the University defends its trademarks so vigorously, such as its legal action over "THE" as it relates to the The Ohio State University. Van Brimmer won the Distinguished Staff award in 1997; he retired in 2021

    The Potential of Cosmic Ray Emissions for Studying Lunar Subsurface Stratigraphy

    As countries and organizations pursue endeavors beyond Earth, the desire for resources in space has increased. One of these resources is water in the form of ice. The Cosmic Ray Lunar Sounder (CoRaLS) is an experiment which could determine the presence of subsurface water- ice deposits on the Moon using radio waves generated by cosmic ray interactions, via the Askaryan effect, as a source for radar probing of the Moon’s surface. Past experiments have used radar mapping of the Moon’s surface, but this technique would help avoid scattering of the radio pulse due to surface roughness, while preserving a large surface area of data collection. Given a larger sampling size, this technique could be used to map the location and purity of ice deposits across the Lunar surface. Several past experiments have used Askaryan signals to great success. Likewise, despite the nature of the Moon’s regolith and its potential possession of scatterers, they are unlikely to present any significant problems while attempting to detect these signals.     Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (FAES): 3rd Place (The Ohio State University Edward F. Hayes Advanced Research Forum)Phosphorus (P) is an essential nutrient with low availability for plant uptake. High media pH levels can cause the formation of insoluble compounds with calcium (Ca). Phosphorus solubilizing bacteria (PSB) can enhance P availability for plant uptake by producing organic acids to acidify the rhizosphere. The identification of PSBs requires both in-vitro and in-planta evaluations. In-vitro protocols allow for the screening of extensive bacterial collections, but the number of bacterial isolates that can be tested in the greenhouse is limited by the amount of space and time required to evaluate the plant responses to PSB inoculation. Digital phenotyping is an emerging tool for high throughput and precise evaluation of plant performance and health. This project aimed to evaluate the performance of plants inoculated with phosphorus solubilizing microorganisms (PSM) using digital phenotyping with the TraitFinder (Phenospex) Greenhouse system. Five PSM were tested in a greenhouse experiment with Marigold (Tagetes patula) 'Durango Orange,' Radish (Raphanus sativus) 'Cherry Belle,' and Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) 'Bush Beef Steak.' PSM treatments included: three bacteria from the Jones lab (OSU1, OSU2, and OSU3) and two microbial-based products (Lalrise Vita and MycoApply Endo). Plants were grown in a peat-based substrate and irrigated with 100 mg·L-1 N from a 15-0-15 fertilizer. P was provided weekly as insoluble Ca2(PO4)3 via drench. Lalrise Vita promoted growth in all plant species evaluated. Lalrise Vita also improved marigold health, which was assessed using the green leaf index (GLI), and plant senescence reflectance index (PSRI).A five-year embargo was granted for this item
