Site Selective Chlorination of Arenes and Heteroarenes Using Charged Microdroplets
Site selective reactions are an incredibly powerful tool within chemistry. Although, bulk phase synthesis is the standard, it’s typically multistep in nature, requires the use of protecting groups, waste intensive, and even sometimes requires expensive catalysts. To combat this issue, we have implemented the platform of droplet chemistry as a new alternative platform for the site selective chlorination of arenes and heteroarenes in contrast to previous works using bulk phase synthesis. Coupling droplet chemistry with Mass Spectrometry and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance allows for optimizing product production, while allowing us to alleviate some of the common issues of bulk phase synthesis. This project allows us to understand how pre-existing reactions can be re-done using droplet chemistry, and how droplet chemistry can function as an alternative approach to organic synthesis. No embargoAcademic Major: Chemistr
Enhancing Advanced Practice Provider Continuity In a Large Academic Oncology Hospital
Continuity of care is defined as Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) caring for the same patients for two to four consecutive days. Lack of consistent provider continuity can negatively impact quality metrics, such as length of stay (LOS) as well as readmission rates. Traditional provider assignment practices at a large academic medical center have contributed to random and inconsistent scheduling, making continuity difficult to achieve. To address this issue, a team comprising leadership and engaged staff implemented a structured approach for assigning APPs to a single service for four weeks. Aggregate LOS and readmission rate data were collected using the organization’s Tableau dashboards, comparing pre- and post-intervention frequencies. During the four-week initiative, the institutions goals for LOS index of less than 1 was met with a final LOS index score of 0.92 for the month of February. The readmission rate target for this intervention was met for this project with a final readmission percentage of 13.9% compared to the monthly goal of 15.32%.No embarg

The Thin Line Between Campaign Fundraising and Political Corruption: The Sixth Circuit's Analysis
Addressing Moral Distress in Nurse Managers
Everyday workplace stressors are catalysts for moral distress (MD) in nurse managers, which can lead to burnout and leaving their position or profession. At a Midwest Community Hospital, the turnover rate for nursing leaders, including nurse managers, ranged from 22-43% over the last two years. While contributing factors and interventions to address MD have been explored, few resources are available to support nursing leaders in reducing their MD. An extensive literature review identified guiding nursing leaders through facilitated discussions related to their workplace stressors demonstrated reduced MD. The purpose of this evidence-based quality improvement initiative was to implement a series of facilitated discussions for nurse managers to reduce moral distress and impact their intention to leave the organization. After implementation of four monthly facilitated discussions addressing the top workplace stressors, the average moral distress appraisal score decreased, the nurse managers' intention to leave their position remained the same, however, all ten nurse managers have remained in their roles. Based on the cost of the program and median salary of nurse managers, the return on investment equaled a savings of over $236,000. Addressing MD can retain nurse managers, minimizing the downstream effect on their team and organizational outcomes.A three-year embargo was granted for this item
Economics of Small vs Large Scale Production Platforms in Row Crop Agriculture
The economic feasibility of small- and large-scale production platforms in row crop agriculture is a critical consideration as the industry faces mounting pressure to optimize efficiency and profitability by adopting autonomy for field operations. This study explores the financial trade-offs associated with machinery complements tailored to different operational scales. A comprehensive economic model was developed to estimate the equivalent annual costs of small versus large-scale grain crop production systems. The model accounts for factors such as fixed and variable costs, the trade-off between mechanical life and technical obsolescence, and the factors that influence overall economics. Additionally, the analysis evaluates the potential margin cost savings that could be reinvested into supervised autonomy, offering a pathway to enhanced productivity and reduced reliance on human oversight and intervention. Preliminary results highlight key cost drivers and provide actionable insights for farmers and stakeholders considering scale-dependent investments in advanced agricultural technologies. This research contributes to informed decision-making in the transition toward sustainable and efficient agricultural practices. No embargoAcademic Major: Agricultural Systems Managemen
