Since the 1990s, art projects spread widely across regions of Japan, were appreciated by interdisciplinarity and cross-disciplinarity. This paper presents a re-examination of “Tanada” related to an art project: a place where agriculture, art, and politics are driven in a complex manner from the perspective of anthropology. Site-specific works of the “Echigo-Tsumari Art Field” continue to change while interacting with things and people at the place in which they were set up. The author reveals the artistic process of creating new realities and images when rice fields are turned into rice terraces, with specific examination of connections with various people, objects, and systems.Furthermore, starting from newly transformed Tanada after the earthquake in northern Nagano, the author analyzes the reassembling of things while the artwork and the image of the area are figure–ground reversed.departmental bulletin pape
