Creation of the Tai Dam Scripts in Vietnam

によってその書体は異なっていたため，1950 年代のベトナムでは少数民族の
文化伝統を保護する政策の一環で書体を統一し，新しい「ターイ文字」がつく
られた。その際，基準となったのは，黒タイというサブグループの間にある統
一性の高い文字「黒タイ文字」であった。本論文の目的は，黒タイ文字がつく
られた歴史的経緯とそのプロセスの詳細を示すことである。そこで本論では，
まずフランスのパヴィ使節団が蒐集した白タイ（ターイの別の地方集団）の現
地文字資料と，同時期の黒タイの書簡を分析し，1890 年代の白タイ語，黒タ
イ語の表記システムを示す。そのうえで，黒タイ首領カム・オアイが先導した
20 世紀初頭の文化運動に焦点を当てる。そこからフランス植民地政権の「分
割統治」で助長された白タイと黒タイの対立関係を背景として黒タイの文化的
独自性が追求されその一環で黒タイ文字の原形がつくられたこと，1910 年代
にその文字による文書が黒タイの間で広まったことを明らかにする。The Thai, Tai-speaking people and an official ethnic category in
Vietnam, have transmitted their own scripts. Furthermore, every local group
of Thai people has also developed its own scripts. Therefore, attempts were
made by Vietnamese ethnologists in the 1950s to unify all local scripts of
Thai to produce official ‘Thai scripts’ under an ethnic policy of protecting the
inherent ethnic cultures. At that time, they referred to highly unified scripts
used among the Tai Dam, a local group of Thai people. The purpose of this
