The development of fundamental movement patterns in preschool children observed by nursery teachers - Long-term survey data-

The development of motor skills in preschool children is thought to be influenced by daily experiences of various movements. These, in turn, affect the acquisition of fundamental movement patterns. Therefore, when researching motor development, it is necessary to examine data obtained over a long period rather than making judgments based on data obtained over the short term. In this study, the frequency and rate of appearance of fundamental movement patterns were tracked over a long period to clarify what kinds of movement patterns children experience and to what extent. The aim was to crosssectionally observe the developmental continuum of fundamental movement patterns in early childhood by age using longitudinal data. The appearance rate frequency of 37 fundamental movement patterns (Sugihara et al., 2011) observed during the daily care of 2- to 5-year-old preschool children at a daycare center was analyzed. We asked the homeroom teachers of each class to observe and rate the movements of nursery school children in their classes on a weekly basis. Regarding the fundamental motor pattern characteristics among age groups, the results showed that the number of motor patterns that did not appear in rate and frequency of occurrence was the lowest among 5-yearolds. In contrast, the number of fundamental motor patterns that did not appear was higher in the 2- and 3-year-olds compared to the 4- and 5-year-olds. For the posture/locomotion category, both the rate and frequency of occurrence tended to be higher for 2- to 4-year-olds than for the manipulative category. However, the manipulative category tended to accelerate with development; no difference was observed between the two categories in the 5-year-olds. This suggests that there are differences in the fundamental motor patterns acquired at different developmental stages, and the movements experienced diversify with age.調査・研究資料departmental bulletin pape
