Adaptive cameras: history, devices and applications

    No full text
video/mp4A camera is considered "adaptive" if the properties of either its imaging sensor or its optics are temporally variable. Distributed into four different categories, adaptive cameras are targeted for a wide range of different applications, including, among many other, video surveillance, robotics and medical imaging. After detailing the history, the main devices and the applications of the most innovative adaptive cameras, I will present my work on HDROmni and Visadapt, two new cameras designed to capture the most visual information possible of heterogeneous environments.講演日: 2023年6月29日 3限講演場所: 情報科学棟 エーアイ大講義室(L1)vide

Hierarchical Label Generation for Text Classification

    No full text
Hierarchical text classification (HTC) aims to assign the most relevant labels with the hierarchical structure to an input text. However, handling unseen labels with considering a label hierarchy is still an open problem for real-world applications because traditional HTC models employ a pre-defined label set. To deal with this problem, we propose a generation-based classifier that leverages a Seq2Seq framework to capture a label hierarchy and unseen labels explicitly. Because of no available social media datasets that target at HTC, we constructed a new (Blog) dataset using pairs of social media posts and their hierarchical topic labels. Experimental results on the Blog dataset showed the effectiveness of our generation-based classifier over state-of-the-art baseline models. Human evaluation results showed that the quality of generated unseen labels outperforms even the gold labels.conference pape

Single-cell transcriptomics uncovers EGFR signaling-mediated gastric progenitor cell differentiation in stomach homeostasis

    No full text
Defects in gastric progenitor cell differentiation are associated with various gastric disorders, including atrophic gastritis, intestinal metaplasia, and gastric cancer. However, the mechanisms underlying the multilineage differentiation of gastric progenitor cells during healthy homeostasis remain poorly understood. Here, using a single-cell RNA sequencing method, Quartz-Seq2, we analyzed the gene expression dynamics of progenitor cell differentiation toward pit cell, neck cell, and parietal cell lineages in healthy adult mouse corpus tissues. Enrichment analysis of pseudotime-dependent genes and a gastric organoid assay revealed that EGFR-ERK signaling promotes pit cell differentiation, whereas NF-κB signaling maintains gastric progenitor cells in an undifferentiated state. In addition, pharmacological inhibition of EGFR in vivo resulted in a decreased number of pit cells. Although activation of EGFR signaling in gastric progenitor cells has been suggested as one of the major inducers of gastric cancers, our findings unexpectedly identified that EGFR signaling exerts a differentiation-promoting function, not a mitogenic function, in normal gastric homeostasis.journal articl

A Series of Soluble Planar Oligorylenes up to Hexarylene

Preparation of large rylenes often needs the use of solubilizing groups along the rylene backbone, which results in the distortion of the skeleton and thus broadening of the absorption spectrum. In this work, we successfully synthesized 2,5,8,16,19,22-hexakis[2,6- bis(tri-fluoromethyl)phenyl]hexarylene (H) by using an oxidative fusion reaction of perylene trimer in 5% yield. The product is soluble in common organic solvents and could be purified with column chromatography. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that the hexarylene core is not disturbed by the substituents very much and is almost planar. The longest absorption of H exhibits a sharp peak at 831 nm and an on-set at 875 nm in toluene with a small full-width-at-half-maximum (FWHM) of 660 cm-1. The molar extinction coefficient is as large as 131,000 M-1 cm-1. The substituents could not perturb the electronic properties of the hexarylene because aryl groups are perpendicular to the hexarylene core and the carbon atoms at 2,5,16,19-positions have negligible coefficients on its HOMO and LUMO, estimated by theoretical calculations. As a result, the hexarylene having less absorption at the visible light region was stable enough in solution under the LED room light for more than 1 week. This strategy gives a useful guideline to establish the near-infrared materials that exhibit stability under ambient conditions.repor

Decreased metabolic diversity in common beans associated with domestication revealed by untargeted metabolomics, information theory, and molecular networking

    No full text
The process of crop domestication leads to a dramatic reduction in the gene expression associated with metabolic diversity. Genes involved in specialized metabolism appear to be particularly affected. Although there is ample evidence of these effects at the genetic level, a reduction in diversity at the metabolite level has been taken for granted despite having never been adequately accessed and quantified. Here we leveraged the high coverage of ultra high performance liquid chromatography-high-resolution mass spectrometry based metabolomics to investigate the metabolic diversity in the common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris). Information theory highlights a shift towards lower metabolic diversity and specialization when comparing wild and domesticated bean accessions. Moreover, molecular networking approaches facilitated a broader metabolite annotation than achieved to date, and its integration with gene expression data uncovers a metabolic shift from specialized metabolism towards central metabolism upon domestication of this crop.journal articl
