    十和田八戸テフラの埋没樹幹の年輪計測

    Annual growth ring provides the most powerful data for constructing radiocarbon (14C) calibration dataset IntCal. Since the Towada-Hachinohe tephra (To-H) is found in ice cores from Greenland, 14C dates from buried wood trunk rings will also contribute to extend the application range of IntCal. In this study, we collected buried wood trunks in To-H (divided into three parts: 1-A, 1-B, and 1-C) and measured tree rings. We obtained a 14C age of 13,156 ± 56 BP from the 256th tree ring of the 1-C sample. It is consistent with the date reported by van der Plicht et al. (2012) . However, cross-dating with Kimura's unpublished data based on tree ring width wast= 4.37, which was not sufficient to confirm data reliability.樹木年輪は1年単位の年代測定が可能なため信頼性が高く、暦年較正曲線IntCalのなかでも最も強力なデータである。十和田八戸テフラTo-Hは、グリーンランドの氷床コアでも産出することから、埋没樹幹年輪の14C年代は、IntCalの適用範囲の拡大にも役立つ。本研究では、To-H中の埋没樹幹(1-A、1-B、1-Cの3つに分かれる)を採取・年輪幅計測を行い、1-C試料の256枚目の年輪から13,156±56BPの14C年代を得た。この値はvan der Plicht et al.(2012)が報告した14C年代とよく一致したが、木村未公表データ(年輪幅)とのクロスデーティングはt=4.37であり、十分な有意性が確保されなかった。departmental bulletin pape

    水盤による乾性降下物測定を目的とした防雨屋根の製作とその効果検証

    The National Institute for Fusion Science began collecting dry depositions using a basin in March 2023. A basin frame with a roof was designed and manufactured to collect dry deposition. A 1200 mm square aluminum plate was attached to the roof, and stainless steel was attached as the support legs. The height of the roof was set at approximately 500 mm from the opening of the basin. The effectiveness of the constructed roof in reducing precipitation was evaluated from three perspectives: water-based mark tests, fluctuations in the basin water level, and a comparison of the concentrations of 7Be and 210Pb. As a result, it was determined that the constructed roof was able to sufficiently reduce precipitation and properly measure dry deposition. Furthermore, there have been no incidents of the roof collapsing or scattering, and measures such as the method of fixing the roof and lowering the center of gravity have allowed it to be operated safely without the use of fixed anchors.departmental bulletin pape

    Evaluation of specific health guidance in small municipality using 7 years data of National Health Insurance database

    Small municipalities have few users with specific health guidance, which makes accurate evaluation difficult. This study verified the effectiveness of specific health guidance using data from specific health checkups and specific health guidance from a municipality in Gifu Prefecture over 7 years. The data were provided by Kokuho Database (KDB; National Health Insurance database) system and included 3,786 individuals who underwent a specific health checkup for the first time between 2008 and 2014, followed by another check the subsequent year. I calculated the differences in weight, body mass index (BMI), and waist circumference from the year of the health check to the weight, BMI, and waist circumference between the initial and the following year’s checks based on health guidance usage status. I also evaluated whether there was a difference in the median and metabolic syndrome status in the following year. Weight, BMI, and waist circumference improvements were observed in the group that received health guidance at both incentive and active support groups. In the incentive support group, less than 40% of those who went from the preliminary group became the non-applicable group and more than 40% of those who went from applicable group also became the non-applicable group. In the active support group, less than 80% of those who moved from the preliminary group became the non-applicable group, while less than 30% of those who went from the applicable group also became the non-applicable group.departmental bulletin pape

    Quantitative evaluation of upper gastrointestinal subepithelial lesions using endoscopic ultrasound-guided shear wave elastography

    Shear wave elastography provides quantitative data on tissue stiffness, but was not available for endoscopic ultrasound until recently. The present study investigated the utility of a newly developed endoscopic ultrasound-guided shear wave measurement for diagnosing upper gastrointestinal subepithelial lesions. Shear wave velocity (Vs) was measured as an indicator of tissue stiffness, and the total amount of effective shear waves (VsN) was used as a reliability index for Vs values obtained by endoscopic ultrasound-guided shear wave measurements. Among the Vs values obtained, the five with the highest VsN were selected, and their median was defined as the median Vs (Vs-med). The median VsN of the five Vs values was defined as the median VsN (VsN-med). Endoscopic ultrasound-guided shear wave measurements were performed on 23 patients, with no complications occurring in any procedure. Histopathological diagnoses included 12 gastrointestinal stromal tumors, seven leiomyomas, and four schwannomas. Vs-med values for gastrointestinal stromal tumors, leiomyomas, and schwannomas were 2.46, 1.73, and 2.85 m/s, respectively, indicating that gastrointestinal stromal tumors and schwannomas were significantly stiffer than leiomyomas. VsN-med values for gastrointestinal stromal tumors, leiomyomas, and schwannomas were 40.5, 39, and 35.5%, respectively, with no significant differences. Endoscopic ultrasound-guided shear wave measurements are feasible for upper gastrointestinal subepithelial lesions and allow for the objective, non-invasive quantification of lesion stiffness. These results suggest the potential of endoscopic ultrasound-guided shear wave measurements as a valuable tool for the differential diagnosis of upper gastrointestinal subepithelial lesions.departmental bulletin pape

    Comparison of Polar Magnetic Fields Derived from MILOS and MERLIN Inversions with Hinode/SOT-SP Data

    The detailed investigation of the polar magnetic field and its time evolution is one of the major achievements of Hinode. Precise measurements of the polar magnetic field are essential for understanding the solar cycle, as they provide important constraints for identifying the source regions of the solar wind. The Spectropolarimeter (SP) of the Solar Optical Telescope (SOT) on board Hinode has been the instrument best suited to make such measurements. In this study, we compare the SOT-SP data for the polar regions, processed using two representative Milne-Eddington inversion codes, MILOS and MERLIN. These codes are applied to the same level-1 SOT-SP data, and the same disambiguation algorithm is used on the maps that go through the two inversions. We find that the radial magnetic-flux density (the magnetic-flux density with respect to the local vertical) provided by the MERLIN inversion tends to be approximately 7% – 10% larger than that obtained from the MILOS inversion. The slightly higher radial magnetic-flux density from MERLIN appears to be common to the polar magnetic fields observed at different phases of the solar cycle. When MILOS is run with the same scattered-light profile and the same magnetic filling factor that are derived with the MERLIN inversion, the radial magnetic-flux density derived from the two inversions is almost the same. We attribute the difference in the radial magnetic-flux density to different filling factors adopted by the two inversions, based on whether the scattered-light profiles are assumed to be the Stokes I profiles averaged over the neighboring pixels or over the entire field of view. The relationship between the radial magnetic-flux density and magnetic filling factor could be more complex in the polar (limb) observations due to the possible contributions of the transverse magnetic-field component to the estimation of the radial magnetic-flux density.journal articl

    This paper reexamines the meanings of several expressions traditionally classified as “meishika (nominalization)” in Japanese and their differences from the perspective of Cognitive Grammar. In previous studies, ren’yōkei nouns, nominal phrases, and even nominal clauses have been referred to as “nominalization”, but it is generally believed that they are not nominalized in the same sense. Nominalization at the word level, i.e., ren’yōkei nouns, is a lexical issue, while nominal phrases and nominal clauses are syntactic issues, and they differ in meaning and usage: lexical nominalization usually involves semantic specialization, whereas syntactic nominalization does not; lexical nominalization has many usage restrictions, with many ren’yōkei forms unable to be used independently, whereas syntactic nominalization seems applicable to any verbal expression. This paper reanalyzes these so-called nominalizations through Cognitive Grammar, confirming that their underlying mechanisms are the same, and clarifies that their differences in meaning and usage are not due to nominalization itself, but rather stem from compound structures and the requirements for grounding.departmental bulletin pape

    This paper aims to elucidate the semantic differences between compound verbs formed as " Verb1+Verb2" (e.g., “toi-awaseu”, “hik-kosu”) and their corresponding constructions “ren’yo-form noun+suru” (e.g., “toi-awase+suru”, “hik-koshi+suru”) in contemporary Japanese. According to rules of word formation, when a specific lexical form already exists, the creation of a new one with the same meaning is avoided due to the economy of language. Since the creation of verb constructions "ren’yoform noun+suru" is not prevented by the existence of the original compound verb, it can be inferred that there are some semantic differences between them. Given that the meanings of compound verbs and “ren’yo-form noun+suru” cannot be simply derived from their individual components, this study adopts a frame semantics perspective to describe these differences. By examining usage examples of both compound verbs and their corresponding “ren’yo-form noun+suru” constructions, the paper analyzes the frames and highlights differences in emphasized elements. The findings reveal that compound verbs and their corresponding constructions “ren’yo-form noun+suru” focus on different elements within the same frame. Compound verbs concentrate solely on the definition, which is the "action/movement", whereas “ren’yo-form noun+suru” constructions incorporate both the “action/movement" and additional “non-core frame elements”. Consequently, in actual usage, while both types denote the central "action/movement," “ren’yo-form noun+suru” necessitate additional elements not required by compound verbs. Based on the varying focuses on related events, “ren’yo-form noun+suru” constructions are categorized into four types: those focusing on prescribed procedures (e.g., “toi-awase suru”, “adukeire suru”, “uketuke-suru”), those highlighting co-occurring events (e.g., “hik-koshi suru”, “tachi-ai suru”, “i-nokori suru”), those emphasizing action outcomes (e.g., “kaki-komi suru”, “kazari-tuke suru”, “kumi-awase suru”), and those underling prior conditions (e.g., “nozoki-mi suru”, “nusumi-mi suru”, “kake-moti suru”). Finally, the paper explains the multi-faceted usage examples of “ren’yo-form noun+suru”, attributing this phenomenon to the adaptability of these constructions to contextual demands and alignment with specific frame requirements.departmental bulletin pape
