Reduced order SP3 core calculation based on local/global iterations using proper orthogonal decomposition
For an efficient heterogeneous neutron transport calculation, this study newly proposes a reduced order core calculation method by applying proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) to the simplified P3 (SP3) calculation with the local/global iterations. The fine mesh SP3 calculation (local calculation) for each single assembly can be efficiently solved using POD, thanks to the matrix form-based SP3 equation and the relatively small system of linear equations. By reconstructing the fine mesh distribution of neutron flux and partial neutron currents from the POD bases and the expansion coefficients estimated by the local calculation, the partial current-based coarse mesh finite difference (p-CMFD) calculation is applied to the coarse mesh calculation (global calculation). Using the global calculation results, each local boundary condition can be updated. These local and global calculations are iterated until convergence. Through a two-dimensional UO2-MOX whole core calculation with different fuel loading patterns, the proposed method is verified in comparison with the reference result by the conventional fine mesh SP3 calculation. The calculation results show that the proposed method accurately reconstructs the fine mesh distribution of neutron flux.Published online: 12 Dec 2024journal articl

Dr. William Osler (1849-1919), the father of modern medicine, famously said, “Man ages with his blood vessels” about a century ago. The treatment of lifestyle-related diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia has had as its primary goal the prevention of atherosclerosis. These treatments significantly extended life expectancy by about 30 years in the 20th century. At the same time, as life expectancy has increased, more and more emphasis has been placed on the maintenance of brain and skeletal muscle function, both of which support healthy life expectancy. In other words, the maintenance of cognitive and physical functions plays a critical role in maintaining older adults' health and quality of life (QOL). To live through the “100-year life period,” relying solely on disease diagnosis and treatment is insufficient; there is an increasing focus on aging. According to statistics from the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare, senility, also considered death from aging, was the third leading cause of death in 2008, after malignancy and heart disease. This review discusses anti-aging measures through exercise, nutrition, and medication.departmental bulletin pape
