Factors associated with overall satisfaction level of older people regarding medical-health and long-term care service within residential areas

    No full text
Purpose: This study examined the factors related to the overall satisfaction level of older people treated at home, regarding medical and welfare services in their area of residence. Method: The survey targeted older people who reported using the services at a day rehabilitation center in Nagasaki Prefecture. The survey investigated the individuals’ backgrounds of, including their age, sex, period of long-term care insurance use, living environment, details and anxiety. It also indicated, through a self-rate system, the extent of information sharing among medical personnel and long-term care workers. The Japanese version of the Client Satisfaction Questionnaire 8-item version (CSQ-8J) was used to measure their level of satisfaction with medical and long-term care services. Results: Data from 205 people were analyzed, which included 73 men (35.6%) and 132 women (64.4%). The mean age was 81.2 ± 7.6(mean±standard deviation) years, the mean period of long-term care insurance was 38.1 ± 38.2 months, and the mean CSQ-8J score was 24.8 ± 5.7 points. The results of the multiple regression analysis (backward stepwise method) showed that only the item “information on illness and treatment is shared among medical personnel and long-term care workers” was significantly associated with the CSQ-8J score (p = 0.007). The results suggest the need to determine the details of the information regarding illness and treatment that should be shared among concerned parties

Associations between daily lifestyle characteristics and latent depressive symptoms in elementary school children: A cross-sectional survey

    No full text
This study aimed to identify associations between daily lifestyle characteristics and latent depressive symptoms in young children by analyzing self-reported questionnaire data. In 2011, in Nagasaki Japan, a cross-sectional survey of 1961 children aged between 10 and 12 years was conducted. Children answered questionnaires that collected demographic information, along with daily lifestyle characteristics, and were administered the Birleson Depression Self-Rating Scale for Children (DSRSC-J). The mean age of the participants was 10.98 years (±0.83 standard deviation [SD]) with a mean DSRSC-J raw score of 11.61 (±6.34 SD). In total, 24.7% of participants reported depressive symptoms. A multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that depressive symptoms were associated with female gender (odds ratio [OR]:1.86; 95% CI: 1.48–2.33), experiencing growth (OR: 1.25; 1.07-1.44), a bedtime later than 11 pm (OR: 1.25; 1.01-1.66), skipping breakfast (OR: 1.55; 1.15-2.10), and not having a set dinner time (OR: 1.65; 1.32–2.07). Conversely, absence of depressive symptoms was associated with involvement in school-related athletic clubs (OR: 0.60, 95% Cl: 0.48–0.76) and at home studying for at least one hour per day (OR: 0.67, 95% Cl: 0.54–0.84). Depressive symptoms in young children were associated with social contact and their parent’s lifestyles. Non-experts in the field of mental health who interact with young children should carefully note the presence of factors associated with depressive symptoms as this would help children with latent depressive symptoms receive prompt and timely care

Ameliorated healing of biliary anastomosis by autologous adipose-derived stem cell sheets

    No full text
Introduction: Cell sheets consisting of adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) have been reported to be effective for wound healing. We conducted this study to clarify the efficacy of ADSC sheets in wound healing at the duct-to-duct biliary anastomotic site in pigs. Methods: Eleven female pigs (20–25 kg) were divided into two groups: biliary anastomosis with an ADSC sheet (n = 6) or without an ADSC sheet (n = 5). To follow the transplanted ADSCs, PKH26GL-labeled sheets were used in one of the ADSC pigs. Two weeks prior to laparotomy, ADSCs were isolated from the lower abdominal subcutaneous adipose tissue. After three passages, ADSCs were seeded on temperature-responsive culture dishes and collected as cell sheets. ADSC sheets were gently transplanted on the anastomotic site. We evaluated specimens by PKH26GL labeling, macroscopic changes, infiltration of inflammatory cells, and collagen content. Results: Labeled ADSCs remained around the bile duct wall. In the no-ADSC group, more adhesion developed at the hepatic hilum as observed during relaparotomy. Histopathological examination showed that the diameter and cross-sectional area of the bile duct wall were decreased in the ADSC group. In the no-ADSC group, a large number of inflammatory cells and more collagen fibers were identified in the bile duct wall. Conclusions: The present study demonstrated that autologous ADSC sheet transplantation reduced hypertrophic changes in the bile duct wall at the anastomotic site. A long-term follow-up is required to evaluate the efficacy of this mechanism in prevention of biliary anastomotic strictures

Vibration control design of motor stator using dynamic absorbers, imperfect mass and elastic supports

    Get PDF
This paper deals with the quenching problem of electromagnetic vibration of the motor stator in the wide frequency region around the natural frequency. The iron stator is modeled by a perfect circular ring. To quench its vibration, single mass is set on the stator, it is supported by the two springs, and a pair of dynamic absorbers is installed on the outside of it. The solutions of forced vibration are obtained by the theoretical analysis. Following was made clear: (1) The vibration quenching effect may be improved by using an imperfect mass and spring supports in addition to the dynamic absorbers. (2) If an imperfect mass is set to be effective for cos mode and spring supports are set to be effective sin mode, and a pair of dynamic absorbers are installed as those makes the space which is almost same as the space between the loop and the node of the quenching target mode, higher quenching effect is obtained. (3) When the two dynamic vibration absorbers are optimally designed, the natural frequency ratios and the damping ratios are almost the same as when imperfect mass and elastic supports are not used

Study on landscape town development utilizing historical resources and landscape guidelines -Case study of Nakashima river, Teramachi, Maruyama area and Fukahori area in Nagasaki City-

We clarified the actual situation of scenery management of Nakashima river, Teramachi, Maruyama area in Nagasaki city. In addition, we classified facade design and examined approaches to subsidy system and landscape standard. As a result, while public landscape management did not progress well, we also found activities to improve the landscape voluntarily. Next, we conducted a questionnaire survey in Fukahori area. There were many requests for support from government and universities. As a result, it became clear that it was necessary to raise the awareness of the residents and to prepare support systems such as grants
