    Study on single-mode transmission in non-radiative dielectric waveguide

    In order to develop millimeter-wave integrated circuits, low-loss and compact waveguide devices have been intensively investigated in recent years. Non-radiative dielectric waveguide (NRD guide) is expected to be a platform for millimeter-wave and THz-wave circuits because of its non-radiative nature. However, conventional NRD guides support mathematical equation and mathematical equation modes simultaneously and mode conversion between these modes often occurs at bends and discontinuities. Therefore, circuit devices have to be carefully designed not to excite unwanted mathematical equation mode. In this paper, we propose a sub-wavelength grating NRD guide (SWG-NRD guide) to achieve single-mode transmission band of mathematical equation mode. SWG structure can easily control dispersion property of transmission modes and cut-off frequency of mathematical equation mode can be greatly shifted to higher frequency side. The designed SWG-NRD guide achieves a wide transmission band of 20 GHz with a central frequency of 60 GHz. We also propose a taper waveguide to connect SWG-NRD guide with the conventional NRD guide with low reflection. Finally, we present the propagation characteristics of the SWG-NRD guide bend. The proposed SWG-NRD guide shows high transmission efficiency and overcomes the problems of mode conversion in NRD guides.journal articl

    This article explores the integration of conversation videos in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms, emphasizing students' perceptions through a paper-based survey conducted with an English Communication undergraduate class at Muroran Institute of Technology in Japan. Following the implementation of conversation videos into seven lessons, the study aimed to assess their impact on various aspects of language learning from the learners' perspective, including student interest, comprehension, pronunciation, listening skills, speaking confidence, vocabulary development, and cultural understanding. Positive student attitudes were observed across multiple areas, such as increased interest, improved cultural communication understanding and a desire for an increased use of videos. These findings highlight the potential of conversation videos in enhancing engagement and comprehension in EFL university classrooms, suggesting implications for teachers to more widely integrate this multimedia tool into their teaching practice.journal articl

    チリメンアオジソのアミロイド凝集阻害活性を向上させる栽培条件の探索と細胞毒性に対する保護効果

    室蘭工業大学Muroran Institute of Technology博士(工学)プロテイノパチーは、凝集性タンパク質が細胞内外で凝集し生体内に沈着する病態である。とりわけ、プロテイノパチーの一種であるアルツハイマー病 (AD) は世界中で患者数が著増しており、今後もさらなる増加が見込まれる。脳内にamyloid-β (Aβ) 凝集体が蓄積することがADの主な発症原因と考えられており、認知機能低下が現れる20年前から蓄積が始まる。そこで本研究では、発症以前の日常的なタンパク質凝集阻害活性物質の摂取により、ADを含むプロテイノパチーを予防するアプローチに着目した。我々の研究室は以前、量子ドットを活用したAβ凝集阻害活性評価法である、微量ハイスループットスクリーニング (MSHTS) 法を開発し、チリメンアオジソ葉抽出物が高いAβ凝集阻害活性を有することを明らかにした。 本研究では、まずチリメンアオジソのAβ凝集阻害活性を向上させる栽培方法および収穫時期の解明を試みた。北海道内の各圃場において異なる土壌条件でチリメンアオジソを栽培し、それら抽出物のAβ凝集阻害活性を自動化MSHTS法により評価した。その結果、開花直前のチリメンアオジソの抽出物が最も高い活性を示し、また栽培条件においては風の付与、適切な窒素の施肥、収穫直前における水やりの停止が活性を向上させた。そのため、これら4つのファクターが高い活性を有する抽出物の作成に重要であることを示した。次に、得られた高活性抽出物がAβにより誘導される各種細胞への影響を抑制するか評価した。まず神経モデル細胞であるPC12細胞を神経成長因子により48 h処理し、突起長を計測したところ、Aβにより誘導される突起伸長を抽出物が抑制した。また、抽出物はヒト脳微小血管内皮細胞のAβ処理により誘導される細胞死を有意に抑制した。さらに、MSHTS法をAβ以外の凝集性タンパク質にも適用し本抽出物を評価したところ、tau、α-synuclein、amylin、serum amyloid Aの凝集に対しても阻害活性を示した。 以上より、本研究はチリメンアオジソのAβ凝集阻害活性を向上させる栽培条件を提示し、得られた高活性抽出物が持つAβによる各種細胞毒性に対する保護効果を裏付けた。さらに、抽出物はAβだけでなく複数のタンパク質に対し凝集阻害活性を示し、全身を対象としたプロテイノパチーの予防に貢献する可能性を示した。本研究のアプローチは他の食用植物に応用可能であり、日常の食事によりADを含むプロテイノパチーを予防する戦略に寄与するProteinopathy is a pathology in which proteins aggregate inside and outside of cells, and these are deposited in the body. In particular, patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD), a type of proteinopathy, have been increasing significantly worldwide, a trend that is expected to continue in the future. The main pathogenesis of AD is the accumulation of amyloid-β (Aβ) aggregates in the brain, a process that begins about 20 years before the onset of cognitive decline. This study focused on a strategy to prevent proteinopathies, including AD, by daily intake of substances with protein aggregation inhibitory activity, prior to the onset of AD. Previously, our laboratory developed a method to evaluate Aβ aggregation inhibitory activity using quantum dots, a microliter-scale high-throughput screening (MSHTS) system, and found that Perilla frutescens var. crispa leaf extract had high activity. I initially attempted to assess the optimal harvesting time and cultivation conditions to enhance the Aβ aggregation inhibitory activity of Perilla. P. frutescens var. crispa plants were cultivated in different fields around Hokkaido, Japan, and the automated MSHTS method was used to evaluate the Aβ aggregation inhibitory activity of their EtOH extracts. The results show that the activity was highest just before flowering and enhanced by wind, appropriate nitrogen fertilization, and drying soil. These factors effectively increase Aβ aggregation inhibitory activity. Next, to evaluate whether the extract cancels the effect induced by Aβ on cells, the neurite length of PC12 cells, a neural model cell, was measured after 48 h of treatment with nerve growth factor. The results showed that the extract suppressed Aβ-induced elongation of neurites. The extract also significantly suppressed Aβ-induced cell death of human brain microvascular endothelial cells. Furthermore, when the MSHTS system was applied to aggregation proteins other than Aβ, the extract inhibited the aggregation of tau, α-synuclein, amylin, and serum amyloid A. This study provided a set of cultivation conditions that enhanced the Aβ aggregation inhibitory activity of P. frutescens var. crispa and demonstrated that the obtained highly active extract protects various cells from Aβ toxicity. Furthermore, the extract displayed aggregation inhibitory activity not only for Aβ but also for several proteins, indicating its potential to contribute to the prevention of systemic proteinopathies. An approach similar to that employed in this study can be applied to any edible plant and holds promise as a strategy to prevent proteinopathies, including AD, by daily diet.doctoral thesi

    A topology optimization of on-chip planar inductor based on evolutional on/off method and CMA-ES

    This paper presents a topology optimization of on-chip planar inductor based on the normalized Gaussian network-based evolutional on/off topology optimization method (NGnet-TO) and the covariance matrix adaptation evolution strategy (CMA-ES). This method is relatively suitable for the conductor optimization problems in which connectivity of the shapes is strongly required because NGnet-TO can easily find spatially smooth shapes in comparison with classical on/off-based topology optimization methods. This paper also introduces a multi-objective NGnet-TO based on a modified CMA-ES for multi-objective problems. These methods are applied to a conductor design problem with an on-chip inductor. From the single- and multi-objective optimization results of the on-chip inductor, it is shown that the connected conductor geometry can be obtained. Moreover, performance of NGnet-TO for conductor design problems is discussed.journal articl

    Mean curvature flow for generating discrete surfaces with piecewise constant mean curvatures

    Piecewise constant mean curvature (P-CMC) surfaces are generated using the mean curvature flow (MCF). As an extension of the known fact that a CMC surface is the stationary point of an energy functional, a P-CMC surface can be obtained as the stationary point of an energy functional of multiple patch surfaces and auxiliary surfaces between them. A new formulation is presented for the MCF as the negative gradient flow of the energy functional for multiple patch continuous surfaces, which are further discretized so as to determine the change in the vertex positions of triangular meshes on the surface as well as along the internal boundaries between patches. Numerical examples show that multiple patch surfaces approximately reach the specified mean curvatures through the proposed method, which can diversify the options for the shape design using CMC surfaces.journal articl

    礫石を連行した波浪による護岸被害とその対策に関する実証的研究

    室蘭工業大学Muroran Institute of Technology博士(工学)国土が狭隘な我が国においては,海岸線に沿った用地を道路や鉄道などの交通路として活用してきた.高波時の通行安全を確保するため,これまでに各種の消波護岸が整備されてきたが,その設計において護岸前面の底質条件が構造物の耐久性に及ぼす影響については十分考慮されてこなかった.また護岸における越波は通行車両への被害をもたらすことがあるが、これまでは流体としての水の効果のみを評価しており、越波に混入する砂礫の影響は考慮されていなかった。本研究では、こうした礫石を連行した波浪による通行障害や護岸被害の発生メカニズムを明らかにするとともに,現地で適用可能な対策について具体的な提案を行うことを目的としている. 本研究ではまず,北海道の海岸道路や海岸鉄道を対象として,礫石や漂流物といった固形物体を連行した波浪による通行障害事例を分析した.さらに,波浪により転動した粗石がコンクリート護岸に衝突を繰り返すことによって生じた摩耗や陥没の実態を明らかにした. 固形物体の打ち上げ現象に関しては,球体を用いた水理模型実験を行い,その直径や比重が打ち上げ高さに及ぼす影響を定式化した.さらに現地観測結果を用いてその妥当性を検証した.現地に対しては,直立護岸上に設置する飛石防止柵を対象として,その設計に必要な柵高や作用波圧の算定法を提案した. 護岸の摩耗については,まず直立護岸を対象として,現地で発生した巨石の衝突による陥没事例を水理模型実験により再現した.消波護岸については,消波ブロック被覆護岸,直積みブロック式護岸,スリット式護岸の3種類の構造形式を検討対象として,水理模型実験により粗石の衝突回数と衝突速度を求めることにより,摩耗の進行速度に及ぼす構造形式や波浪条件の影響を明らかにした. 消波ブロック被覆式護岸については,消波ブロックの摩耗による欠損が耐波安定性に及ぼす影響を明らかにした上で,法先部の保護を目的とした法止めブロックの必要質量の算定法を提案した.スリット式護岸については,円柱部材を用いることが水理特性に及ぼす効果を確認するとともに,各部に作用する球体の衝突力に及ぼす構造諸元や潮位の影響を明らかにした.さらに現地で使用されたハイブリッド型防護工の変状を水理模型実験により再現し,衝突力に及ぼす球体の直径の影響を明らかにした上で,設計対象となる粗石の大きさに対応した防護工の設計法を提案した.In Japan, the land along the coastline has been used as a traffic route such as roads and railways. Various types of wave-dissipating seawalls have been constructed to ensure safe passage during high waves. In addition, overtopping waves on seawalls sometimes cause damage to passing vehicles, but so far only the effect of water as a fluid has been evaluated, and the effects of gravel mixed in overtopping waves have not been considered. The purpose of this study is to clarify the mechanism of traffic obstructions and seawall damages caused by waves carrying gravels, and to propose countermeasures that can be applied in the prototype conditions. In this study, traffic obstruction cases caused by waves with solid materials such as gravel and drifting objects were introduced based on the accident reports on coastal roads and coastal railways in Hokkaido. Furthermore, it was also disclosed that the actual conditions of abrasion and subsidence were caused by repeated collisions of rough stones activated by waves against concrete structures. Regarding the run-up of a solid object, hydraulic model experiments were conducted using a sphere model, and the effects of its diameter and specific gravity on the run-up height were formulated. In addition, the validity of the method was confirmed using field observation results. For the site, a calculation method for the necessary height and wave pressure was established for the design of the stone barrier installed on the vertical seawall. As for the abrasion of vertical seawall, the collapse case caused by the collision of huge stones that occurred in the field was reproduced by hydraulic model experiments. Regarding the wave-dissipating seawall, three types of structures were examined: wave-dissipating block-covered seawall, block masonry seawall, and slit-type seawall. The effects of structural type and wave conditions on the rate of wear progress were clarified. Regarding the wave-dissipating block covered seawall, after clarifying the effect of damage due to abrasion of the wave-dissipating block on wave resistance stability, a calculation method for the required mass of the block for the purpose of protecting the toe of the slope was proposed. Regarding the slit-type revetment, the effect of using cylindrical members was confirmed on the hydraulic characteristics, and the collision force of the spherical body was shown for different wave and tide conditions. Furthermore, the deformation of the hybrid type protection work used in the field was reproduced by hydraulic model experiments, and after clarifying the effect of the sphere diameter on the collision force, the design procedures of the protection work were proposed for different size of rough stones.doctoral thesi

    サケ漁獲量予測のための深層学習に関する研究

    室蘭工業大学Muroran Institute of Technology博士(工学)application/pdf新しい計算科学の発展に貢献する情報学的研究において、広く工学や科学分野の課題に対して数理データサイエンスを基盤とした分野融合的な研究が活発となっている。本論文では、水産業の分野に数理データサイエンス的手法による産業支援につながるICTに関する研究についてまとめている。代表的な魚種であるサケ漁を対象として、データ学習に各種AIの利活用を通じて、スマート水産業の実現に貢献することを目的としている。漁獲量予測は、効果的な漁業管理・資源配分システムの確立に関係するため、これからの水産業の発展には必要不可欠となる。港湾向けに収集された短期の詳細な漁獲量予測は、具体的な漁獲努力の指針となる。長期的な漁獲データを利用すれば、地域全体の水産資源配分に異なる漁獲時間スケールに対応したデータ処理手法を通じて、より実用的な漁業向けデータ支援を実現につなげる。漁獲量予測に機械学習を適用するには深層学習方式が有効となり、予測情報を漁に活用できることがわかる。深層学習とは入力データと対応する出力ラベルを用いて、データの特徴を学習させる機械学習手法である。本論文では、時間・空間的に密度が異なるマルチスケールの漁獲や気象のデータを協調的に処理することで漁獲量の予測および分析を行う。まず、短期と長期の漁獲量を予測するモデルをそれぞれ構築しこれらに基づき漁獲量を予測する。具体的に、短期の漁獲量の予測手法では、畳み込みニューラルネットワークに基づいた漁獲量データの特徴抽出を行い、 LSTMに基づき漁獲量を予測する。一方で、長期の漁獲量予測に対しては、時空間データのスパース条件下において短期の水温と長期の漁獲量データを活用するために、時系列分析手法のARIMAとニューラルネットワークを組み合わせた予測モデルにより長期の漁獲量予測を行う。その後、長期と短期の予測結果から漁獲量、気象データ、および海区などの地形情報間の関連性を分析する。以上のように、本論文では、短期および長期的な漁獲量を予測するためにデータ特性に合わせた深層学習に基づいた手法を導入することで、マルチスケールの漁獲データ予測と分析を実現し、北海道をはじめとする地域ごとの水産業に対して貢献がある。本論文の提案は、異なるデータサイズ、量、および、その他の複雑性に適応して、漁獲量を効果的に予測・分析できることが示され、実産業分野に貢献する数理データサイエンスの研究として位置づけられる。In the field of informatics research contributing to the development of new computational science, multi-field fusion research has been active in solving the various problems of engineering and science fields. In this doctoral thesis, ICT research supporting the industry by mathematical data science methods was compiled. The objective of the research is to contribute to the smart fishery industry, especially the salmon fisheries as a representative seafood of Japan.The fish-catch prediction has been required for establishing the fishery management and sea-resource allocation system for the next fishery generation industry. A detailed prediction using port-based information as short-term data is helpful to realize an improved catch. By using long-term catch data, practical fishery data support is established with the data processing corresponding to the regional-based fish-catch allocation. Deep learning is a kind of machine learning method using input and label data. The method effectively predicts the fish catch, and the forecast information is helpful for fishing.In this doctoral thesis, catches are predicted and analyzed by coordinating the processing of multi-scale catch and weather data with different spatial and temporal densities. First, models are constructed to predict short-term and long-term catches, respectively, and catches are predicted based on these models. Specifically, in the short-term catch forecasting method, features are extracted from the catch data based on a convolutional neural network, and the catch is forecasted based on LSTM. On the other hand, for long-term catch forecasting, in order to utilize short-term water temperature and long-term catch data under the sparse-temporal data, long-term catch forecasting is performed by a forecasting model combining the time-series analysis method ARIMA and neural network. The long-term and short-term forecast results are then used to analyze the relationship between the catch, meteorological data, and topographical information such as sea zones. As described above, this doctoral thesis introduces a deep learning-based method tailored to data characteristics to predict short-term and long-term catches, thereby realizing multi-scale catch data prediction and analysis and contributing to the fisheries industry in Hokkaido and other regions.The proposal in this doctoral thesis is positioned as mathematical data science research that contributes to real industrial fields by showing that it can effectively predict and analyze fish catches by adapting to different data sizes, volumes, and other complexities.doctoral thesi
