Distinction between Clitics and Affixes in Samoan, Tahitian and Hawaiian -Samoan/Tahitian Clitic e and Hawaiian Affix ‘e-
application/pdfNumerals, in Samoan, Tahitian and Hawaiian, are often preceded by e or ‘e, which can be classified either as a clitic or as an affix. However, the distinction between clitics and affixes is not always clearcut but a matter of degree. In this paper, the usages of Samoan e, Tahitian e and Hawaiian ‘e are examined to show the similarities and differences among them. The Samoan e showed the highest independency as a morpheme and was considered the most clitic-like. On the other hand, the Hawaiian ‘e showed the lowest independency and was considered the most affix-like. Tahitian e was situated between them.学術論文departmental bulletin pape

WITM: Intelligent Traffic Monitoring Using Fine-Grained Wireless Signal
application/pdfWith the rapid development of the traffic volume, intelligent traffic monitoring technologies have attracted more and more attention, which can support a broad range of applications, including traffic congestion mitigation, traffic violation management, and automated driving assistance. Therefore, it is important to realize convenient, effective, and intelligent traffic monitoring at low cost. In this paper, we develop a comprehensive traffic monitoring system named WiFi-based intelligent traffic monitoring (WITM), which achieves vehicle detection, vehicle type classification, and vehicle speed estimation by measuring the changes of wireless channel state information. The system shows the advantages of convenient deployment, low cost and easy to expand. The proposed detection processes include three key components, a traffic detection method with moving variance, a convolutional neural network-based learning engine to classify the vehicle types, and a combination method of gradient-based and curve fitting to estimate the vehicle speed. By using the fine-grained wireless signal information, WITM achieves vehicle detection with the accuracy of 93.12% and differentiates vehicle types with an accuracy of 87.27%. In addition, the average error of the vehicle speed estimation is less than 5 km/h.journal articl
Propulsive Performance and Heating Environment of Rotating Detonation Engine with Various Nozzles
application/pdfGeometric throats are commonly applied to rocket combustors to increase pressure and specific impulse. This paper presents the results from thrust measurements of an ethylene/gas-oxygen rotating detonation engine with various throat geometries in a vacuum chamber to simulate varied backpressure conditions in a range of 1.1–104 kPa. For the throatless case, the detonation channel area was regarded to be equivalent the throat area, and three throat-contraction ratios were tested: 1, 2.5, and 8. Results revealed that combustor pressure was approximately proportional to equivalent throat mass flux for all test cases. Specific impulse was measured for a wide range of pressure ratios, defined as the ratio of the combustor pressure to the backpressure in the vacuum chamber. The rotating detonation engine could achieve almost the same level of optimum specific impulse for each backpressure, whether or not flow was squeezed by a geometric throat. In addition, heat-flux measurements using heat-resistant material are summarized. Temporally and spatially averaged heat flux in the engine were roughly proportional to channel mass flux. Heat-resistant material wall compatibility with two injector shapes of doublet and triplet injection is also discussed.journal articl
Topology optimization of nonlinear optical waveguide devices considering output signal phase
application/pdfA signal output of optical devices with multi-input ports, such as a logic gate, depends on the phase difference between input ports. In order to cascade optical devices, it is essential to design such devices considering not only desired output power but also desired output signal phase. We propose a topology optimization method for optical devices considering the output signal phase. In our approach, the beam propagation method (BPM) is employed as a numerical simulation method and the adjoint variable method (AVM) is used to calculate the sensitivity of output power and signal phase to design parameters. The validity and the effectiveness of our approach are verified through design examples of a three-branching waveguide with linear media and an all-optical logic gate utilizing nonlinear media.journal articl
AFRP シート曲げ補強した PFC はりの耐衝撃性に関する実験的研究
application/pdfIn this study, to establish the impact resistant design method for steel fiber reinforced Porosity Free Concrete (PFC) beam strengthened with Aramid Fiber Reinforced Polymer (AFRP) sheet, static and impact loading tests were conducted, and then influence of loading method on deformation behavior of beam were investigated. Also, the impact resistant design method based on basic calculation result was suggested. Consequently, it was revealed that the maximum deflection under impact loading can be estimated by means of calculated load-deflection curve under static loading. And then, performance based impact resistant design concept was shown by using the magnitude of tensile strain of AFRP sheet as performance index.journal articl

application/pdfThe regulation for countermeasures against rockfall disaster has been revised focusing on the safety of road traffic. If the national disaster occurred, it may be important to ensure the road network against the disaster to save people’s lives and to keep the logistics network. Therefor at first the construction limit area of roads must be protected from falling rocks as far as possible. To accomplish this, some kinds of traffic facilities were installed along the highway networks. In this paper, a low deflection barrier was developed and its applicability was verified based on the full-scale impact loading tests fallowing the design guidelines.
