Changes in Satoyama Landscapes in Sumedang, West Java, Indonesia
application/pdfThe purpose of this study was to investigate the impacts of recent urbanization and the change of Satoyama in Sumedang, West Java, Indonesia, based on land cover and use changes using satellite images in order to discuss a strategy for the conservation of Satoyama landscapes. Significant improvements in classification accuracy were achieved, with overall accuracy rising from 73% to 85% and Kappa accuracy from 66% to 79%. The analysis revealed a decrease in dryland agriculture and shrub-mixed dryland farms, alongside an increase in forested areas and settlements. These changes have important implications for the sustainability of Satoyama landscapes, as increased forest areas support biodiversity. The Satoyama Index, reflecting the health of socio-ecological landscapes, improved from 2003 to 2013 but slightly declined by 2023 due to urbanization pressures. Cluster analysis identified three watershed groups with distinct characteristics: Cluster 1, dominated by dryland agriculture and rice fields with a low Satoyama Index; Cluster 2, characterized by shrub-mixed dryland farms and the highest Satoyama Index; and Cluster 3, with diverse land uses and a moderate Satoyama Index. Each cluster requires tailored land use management strategies to balance development and conservation. The findings emphasize the need for integrated land management to preserve satoyama landscapes and promote biodiversity. Effective strategies include enhancing agroforestry, supporting sustainable agriculture, and implementing comprehensive urban planning. A Study on Road Surface Marking Quality Evaluation Using Machine Learning and Computer Vision
三重大学博士(工学)application/pdfIn the context of rapidly accelerating urban expansion and advancements in deep learning, the need for sustainable and efficient traffic management systems has emerged as a pivotal research area. This dissertation addresses the challenges associated with the deterioration of road surface markings, particularly in the Mie prefecture of Japan.
Central to this research is a comprehensive dataset of 13,000 high-resolution images (3000x1600) sourced from the local government facilities of Mie prefecture. These images span diverse roads and intersections in urban, rural, and even off-road contexts. Captured under varied lighting conditions, they present a slew of challenging samples, including images with glare effects, shadowy regions, deteriorated roads, and traffic signs. Through the development of a semiassisted annotation tool, an initial subset of 400 images was labeled, serving to train a U-Net model that achieved a Dice score of 78.90%. Recognizing the potential of the extensive dataset, a subsequent phase of assisted labeling was undertaken. This effort used the trained model’s inference on all images, facilitating a streamlined labeling process. Ultimately, this method yielded 12,000 labeled images, with about 1,000 images deemed unfit for accurate annotations. The research’s early stages successfully detected and segmented these landmarks, integrating both classical computer vision techniques and deep learning approaches. The introduction of the ”Efficient VGG-16” model, a tailored version of the renowned VGG-16, emerged as a significant contribution, adeptly evaluating road surface marking quality and achieving a Mean Squared Error (MSE) of 3.62.
Further deepening the research, a comprehensive survey of various segmentation models was conducted, with the U-Net model exhibiting notable superiority in terms of Dice score evaluation.

Understanding the role of sea surface temperature variability in forcing regional precipitation variability in the rainy season in Mozambique
三重大学博士(学術)application/pdfThis study examines the relationship between the interannual rainfall variability in the rainy season in Mozambique and global sea surface temperature (SST) fluctuations. Four geographical regions across Mozambique (southern, central, northeastern, and northwestern regions) are defined for the analysis. The relationship of December, January, and February (DJF) mean precipitation in those four regions with SSTs in the tropical and subtropical Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans are investigated through lagged correlation and composite analysis.
The results suggest that interannual regional precipitation variability in Mozambique is modulated by several factors. The most important include the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) in the tropical Pacific, the Benguela Nino in the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) and the Subtropical Indian Ocean Dipole (SIOD) in the tropical and subtropical Indian Ocean. These modes of climate variability affect regional precipitation through modulating major regional weather systems. The Benguela Nino appears to modulate moisture flux from the Benguela coast into the Southern Indian Convergence Zone (SICZ) while ENSO modulates the strength of major regional systems such as Angolan law, Botswana High, Mascarene High and therefore, Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ). On the other hand, although year to year variability of Mozambique Channel Trough (MCT) intensity is significantly correlated to ENSO, it does not accompany regional precipitation in Mozambique. However, its westward(eastward) shift, which is not significantly correlated to ENSO, accompanies enhanced(suppressed) precipitation in southern and central regions. This association is strengthened (weakened) when the westward (eastward) shift is accompanied by a positive (negative) phase of SIOD. We further found that Rossby wave propagation reaching Southern Africa from the tropical Pacific is key to the relationship between precipitation in Mozambique and ENSO.
Benguela Niño was found to have a significant positive lead correlation by six months with precipitation in the southern, central, and northwestern regions. In contrast, the IOD led precipitation in the southern, central, and northeastern regions by three months. 御嶽山南麓の渓流河川の流量計測
本稿では、2014年9月27日に噴火した御嶽山で噴火が陸水に与えた影響、火山地域における陸水環境の生態的・化学的な調査・研究を実施し、水収支・物質収支の観点から河川流量の把握を行っている木曽川上流の王滝川支流において、流量観測の観測者および測定方法の差異による河川流量の違いについて検討を行った。2022年5月28日実施の流量観測の結果、観測者および流速計、測定方法が異なる場合において、濁川では観測方法A で0.427461m3/秒、観測方法B で0.4289833 m3/秒と観測差はほとんどなく、濁沢川でも観測方法A で0.833019m3/秒、観測方法B で0.8102798m3/秒とその違いは3% 程度であった。しかし、測線の川幅は短かったものの、川岸の流速が遅く、大きな礫の排除が困難で乱流等の抑制が不十分となった伝上川では観測方法A で0.60239375m3/秒、観測方法B で0.7057166m3/秒と14.6% の誤差が生じた。また、別の日に実施した濁沢川・伝上川・濁川の河川流量を用いた比較検討から、測線上下流1~2mで大きな礫を事前排除して、流れを整えて流量観測を行うことの効果があることが明らかになった。このことから、特に事前に大きな礫を排除した乱流等の抑制、流れの遅い区間の回避・調整は、異なる観測者や測定方法で行われた河川流量の再現性においても有効であることと水深測定間隔が広い場合には、流れの遅い箇所がある流量観測には留意が必要であることも確認された。departmental bulletin pape
ケアが紡ぐ人間関係と抵抗──『上海宝貝』再読
近代日本において殖産興業を先導した経済エリートは、多様な公職に就任するとともに特徴的なハイカルチャーを生み出すなど、政治的・文化的に独特な存在感を示した。彼らがエリート的な地位を占めた過程には、二つの差異化が重要な意味を持つ。「実業」の模範者として自己を正当化する過程、そして、エリート文化の指標となる象徴財を獲得する過程である。前者は、封建的な賤商衛慧『上海宝貝』は1999年に中国で出版され国内外で流行した長篇小説である。この作品は、中国当代文学史においては商業主義文学およびポストフェミニズム的テクストの代表作とされ、また文体の審美性についてもしばしば消極的評価を下されてきた。また、近年では文学研究の領域で言及されることも少なくなっている。本稿は、これまであまり解読の対象とされてこなかった登場人物間の関係に着目して『上海宝貝』を再読し、近年日本国内の文学批評の領域で広がりを見せている「ケアの倫理」を切り口として、新たな読みの提示を試みた。
まず、作中で主人公が示し、かつ従来の評論がテクストの主旋律と目してきた「メリトクラシー-ポストフェミニズム-新自由主義」の世界観が、実際には主人公の現実と衝突しているだけでなく、主人公もその世界観に違和感を持っていることを明らかにした。さらに、主人公が作家であることや、しばしば示されるポストフェミニズム的態度が批評家に注目される一方で、主人公が担う比較的重いケア労働が見落とされてきたことを指摘した上で、主人公の「ケアの倫理」について検討した。その結果、「個」を称賛し自主独立の価値を重んじる世界観にありつつも、主人公およびその他の登場人物たちが織り成す交流の中では、頻繁に相互ケアリングの姿が描かれており、人間が生きる上で他者への依存が避けられない現実が示されているだけでなく、「メリトクラシー-ポストフェミニズム-新自由主義」の世界観への抵抗を読み取ることができると指摘した。『上海宝貝』において、都市部の華やかな生活と並行して描かれたこれらの人間模様こそが、むしろ当時の上海を活写しているといえるのではないか。意識からの離脱を志向するものである。明治期半ばには、勉学(とりわけ「虚学」)や学校教育とは異なり、また、非道徳的な「虚業」とも異なる実地の民業が「実業」として正当化される。彼らはそうした思想的な趨勢に倣いながら、明治後期において新聞・雑誌で自らを道徳的な「実業家」として語った。また、後者は、明治初年に上流社会で流行した能楽や茶事を自己の地位にふさわしい文化的アイテムとして彼らが積極的に取り入れ、趣味のネットワークを形成した過程である。二つの差異化の過程は、勉学・学校教育の貶価や伝統文化への傾倒という点で、プレモダンへの志向という特徴を共に持つ。次世代の実業家も反知性主義や伝統主義を表明することが多く、そのことは昭和初期という社会の変革期に至って、再び経済エリートの社会的な立ち位置を複雑なものとした可能性がある。departmental bulletin pape
