Identification of the viscoelastic properties of soft materials using a convenient dynamic indentation system and procedure
The responses of soft structures such as tissue depend on their viscoelastic properties. Therefore, the knowledge of the elastic and damping properties of soft materials is of great interest. This paper presents the identification of the viscoelastic properties of soft materials using a convenient dynamic indentation system and procedure. Using an electromagnet, a force is applied to a rigid sphere located at the soft-material interface and the dynamic response of the sphere is recorded using a high-speed camera. The recorded video is processed to identify the displacement of the sphere as a function of time. The dynamic response of the sphere located at the soft-material interface is predicted using an analytical model that considers the shear modulus and density of the soft sample, the radiation damping due to shear waves, and the radius and density of the sphere. By matching the measured and predicted steady-state displacements of the sphere, the shear modulus of the soft sample is determined. The viscous damping ratio of the soft sample is identified by using an equivalent viscous damping ratio for the soft sample in the analytical model and matching the measured and predicted oscillation amplitudes of the sphere. Experiments and analyzes are performed using gelation phantoms with different mechanical properties, spheres of different materials and sizes, and different force levels to verify the system and procedure. Three experiments are performed for each gelation phantom, sphere, and external force, and the repeatability of the results is presented. Extension of capital budgeting techniques using interval-valued Fermatean fuzzy sets
Capital budgeting requires dealing with high uncertainty from the unknown characteristics of cash flow, interest rate, and study period forecasts for future periods. Many fuzzy extensions of capital budgeting techniques have been proposed and used in a wide range of applications to deal with uncertainty. In this paper, a new fuzzy extension of the most used capital budgeting techniques is proposed. In this content, first interval-valued Fermatean fuzzy sets (IVFFS s) are defined, and the algebraic and aggregation operations are determined for interval-valued Fermatean fuzzy (IVFF) numbers. The formulations of IVFF net present value, IVFF equivalent uniform annual value, and IVFF benefit-cost ratio (B/C) methods are generated. Teacher educators in k-12 classrooms: how to nurture professional development and research
Four mathematics teacher educators taught 5th grade mathematics for one year at a disadvantaged public school in a metropolitan city in Turkey. Teacher educators (TE) met every week for 10 months where they discussed what to teach, how to teach and reflected on implementation of their shared planning (Regular Meetings). In some meetings, there was a special focus on teaching and learning of fractions (Fraction Research Meetings). Videotapes of the first six Regular Meetings and six of the Fraction Research Meetings were analyzed. The focus of qualitative analyses was on how the pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) was constructed during meetings. References evidencing TEs' knowledge of students, instructional strategies and assessment were revealed more frequently during the Fraction Research Meetings compared to the Regular Meetings. Findings showed that TEs were more focused on what questions to ask in the classroom and shared their experiences about students' mathematical thinking more frequently. Framing planning and reflection discussions with a focus on conducting research was a productive way of nurturing professional development for TEs.

Steel Surface Defect Classification Via Deep Learning
Deep learning and image processing methods have taken place in many parts of our lives, as well as in the quality control stages of production lines. The aim of this study is to train and use a deep learning model to improve quality management using limited data and computing power. To achieve that, deep learning for quality control models were trained by classifying six different steel surface defect images in the NEU-DET dataset. Xception, ResNetV2 152, VGG19 and InceptionV3 architectures were used to train the model. High accuracy was obtained with both Xception and ResNetV2 152. © 2022 IEEE.2-s2.0-8514188110
