Majority Grievance in Germany: The Role of Entitlement Beliefs and Ingroup Threat

    No full text
Group-based grievance has mainly been studied from the perspective of disadvantaged and minority groups. Following the refugee crisis and corresponding sociopolitical changes, there has also been an increase in perceived grievance among majority groups in many European countries. The present studies examined the role of perceived threat in the relationship between autochthony-based entitlement and group grievances among members of the German majority. Across three correlational studies, we tested whether threat moderates versus mediates this relationship. In Study 1, using a nationally representative sample, we found support for threat serving as a mediator of the relationship between autochthony-based entitlement and majority grievance. We replicated this finding in Studies 2 (N = 380) and 3 (N = 614) using convenience samples. We discuss the diverse roles played by perceived threat in predicting defensive reactions by majority groups and the importance of studying perceived entitlement in majority groups' grievance claims.WOS:001045028200001Emerging Sources Citation IndexarticleUluslararası işbirliği ile yapılan - EVETAğustosYÖK - 2022-2

    No full text
This research focuses on how the automobile, which is experiencing the greatest evolution in its history, can affect the production of urban space and daily routines. The potential effects of smart cars, powered by electricity and transferred from human beings to artificial intelligence, on urban space and infrastructural elements that make up urban space are emphasized. In addition to the evolution of the automobile, discussions have been made on the possible effects of societies' tendencies towards new mobility trends on urban space. In this context, in the first part of the thesis, it is discussed how the automobile, which is one of the most important inventions of the industrial revolution, transforms the daily routines and overthrows the traditional city with its inclusion in daily life and the freedom it has given to human beings. The ideal and utopian cities of the modernists, who produced ideas about how the post-automobile city should be, are mentioned. In the second part, discussions about how electric and driverless vehicles can transform the production of urban space are continued through various speculative projects, current news and reports. In this context, the envisagements, project texts, videos and images made by the automobile industry and architects about the city of the future were examined. Based on the discussions made, original diagrams were produced and it was tried to provide a better examination of the subject. In addition, current newspaper news about the automobile industry and the reports published by various research companies contributed to the deepening of the subject

In this paper, a system that recognizes emotion from human faces is designed using Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN). CNN is known to perform well when trained with a large database. The lack of large and balanced publicly available databases that can be used by deep learning methods for emotion recognition is still a challenge. To overcome this problem, the number of data is increased by merging FER+, CK+ and KDEF databases; and preprocessing is applied to the face images in order to reduce the variations in the database. Data augmentation methods are used to reduce the imbalance in the data distribution that still remains despite the increasing number of data in the merged database. The CNN-based method developed using database merging, image preprocessing and data augmentation, achieved emotion recognition with 80% accuracy.2-s2.0-85178277713Eki

Exploring attitudes toward "sugar relationships" across 87 countries: a global perspective on exchanges of resources for sex and companionship

    No full text
The current study investigates attitudes toward one form of sex for resources: the so-called sugar relationships, which often involve exchanges of resources for sex and/or companionship. The present study examined associations among attitudes toward sugar relationships and relevant variables (e.g., sex, sociosexuality, gender inequality, parasitic exposure) in 69,924 participants across 87 countries. Two self-report measures of Acceptance of Sugar Relationships (ASR) developed for younger companion providers (ASR-YWMS) and older resource providers (ASR-OMWS) were translated into 37 languages. We tested cross-sex and cross-linguistic construct equivalence, cross-cultural invariance in sex differences, and the importance of the hypothetical predictors of ASR. Both measures showed adequate psychometric properties in all languages (except the Persian version of ASR-YWMS). Results partially supported our hypotheses and were consistent with previous theoretical considerations and empirical evidence on human mating. For example, at the individual level, sociosexual orientation, traditional gender roles, and pathogen prevalence were significant predictors of both ASR-YWMS and ASR-OMWS. At the country level, gender inequality and parasite stress positively predicted the ASR-YWMS. However, being a woman negatively predicted the ASR-OMWS, but positively predicted the ASR-YWMS. At country-level, ingroup favoritism and parasite stress positively predicted the ASR-OMWS. Furthermore, significant cross-subregional differences were found in the openness to sugar relationships (both ASR-YWMS and ASR-OMWS scores) across subregions. Finally, significant differences were found between ASR-YWMS and ASR-OMWS when compared in each subregion. The ASR-YWMS was significantly higher than the ASR-OMWS in all subregions, except for Northern Africa and Western Asia.WOS:0011271402000012-s2.0-8518016735738127113Social Sciences Citation IndexArticle; Early AccessUluslararası işbirliği ile yapılan - EVETUluslararası işbirliği ile yapılan - EVETDecemberYÖK - 2022-23Aralı

Social media is one of the most frequently used communication platforms today. Thoughts on the validity of preliminary real estate sales contracts for security purposes

    No full text
İşbu çalışmamız, ilgili tartışmada alınması en isabetli olacak tavrın, gerekçeleriyle ortaya konulmasına odaklanmıştırIt is a fact that preliminary contracts for real estate sales are used for security purposes in the legal practice. In such a transaction, a preliminary sales contract is concluded between the lender and the borrower (or, as the case may be with another thirdparty which is the owner of the related real estate), providing a security for the repayment of the loan amount by the borrower. In case where the said repayment is not effectuated, a sales contract between the parties will enter into effect, and following that the borrower (or the third-party owner) will have to transfer the ownership of the related real estate to the lender. That way the lender will obtain satisfaction with regard the loan repayment. Usually, such preliminary contracts also contain clauses which stipulate that in case the borrower will be properly able to repay the loan amount with its due interest (this will correspond to the so-called “termination penalty” under the preliminary sales contract), he will be entitled to a right to terminate the contract. The validity of the aforementioned promises is highly debated in the legal literature and practice. Different opinions have been put forward in this discussion. Accordingly, this article focuses on what will be the most appropriate solution of the problem, along with its due justification.Nisa

MOOC-Based personalized learning experience (PLE) an innovative approach to elective courses

    No full text
This qualitative study explores the impact of Personalized Learning Experience (PLE) courses at a higher education institution from the perspective of undergraduate students. The PLE program requires students to take at least one of their elective courses in the form of MOOCs during their undergraduate studies. Drawing on interviews with six students across different faculties, the study identified four key themes that encapsulate the effects of PLE courses: (1) Certificate driven learning with a focus on occupation skill enhancement, (2) diverse course offerings to enhance personal and academic development, (3) learning flexibility, and (4) student satisfaction. The findings suggest that PLE courses offered through MOOC platforms allow students to broaden their academic horizons, gain valuable skills, and tailor their education to better align with their interests and goals. Furthermore, this study highlights the potential benefits of incorporating PLE courses in higher education institutions, emphasizing their role in promoting a more dynamic and student-centered learning environment.Kası

All you fear is love: The roles of rejection by intimate others

    No full text
Interpersonal acceptance-rejection theory (IPARTheory) asserts that recollections of parental rejection in childhood tend to result in psychological maladjustment and intimacy problems in later romantic relationships. Informed by IPARTheory, we investigated the association between maternal & paternal rejection, and fear of intimacy by the mediating role of psychological maladjustment in a Turkish sample with 462 mostly young adults. We further explored the moderator role of gender in Model 1 and the moderating roles of both gender and intimate partner rejection in Model 2. Model 1 revealed that adults who had experienced maternal and paternal rejection in childhood tended to be psychologically maladjusted. Consequently, they also tended to have a fear of intimacy, regardless of gender. Model 2 revealed that women who recall having been rejected in childhood by their mothers tended to be psychologically maladjusted and to have a significant fear of intimacy when they also experienced moderate or more than moderate intimate-partner rejection. However, both women and men who experienced paternal rejection in childhood tended to be psychologically maladjusted and to experience a greater fear of intimacy when they perceived any degree of intimate partner rejection. Implications of the results for theory, research, and practice are discussed.WOS:0009234335000012-s2.0-85147379732Social Sciences Citation IndexarticleUluslararası işbirliği ile yapılan - EVETOcakYÖK - 2022-2
