This paper is a brief discussion about the some of most popular search algorithms, used in searching, browsing and retrieving of digital information. It also gives the brief outlook about the various search algorithms used by digital library and similar species of the software

    Data Mining and Clustering Techniques

    Get PDF
Data mining techniques are most useful in information retrieval; some of these techniques are classification, association rules and clustering. An attempt has been made here to discuss these techniques

    A Tutorial on HTML

    Get PDF
The World Wide Web is one large web of electronic documents. These documents are accessible to anyone connected to the Net using a browser. The design of a web page is crucial for presenting information in a manner that is most comp elling to read. This design is possible because of a special language called HTML. This paper aims at giving a very brief in sight into the concepts of the Hyper Text Markup Language. A few important HTML tags are described to give the user a very basic working knowledge of the language

This paper presents a step-by-step approach to install GSDL on Linux system

The Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting: An Introduction

    Get PDF
The Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH) is a collaborative effort that provides an applicationindependent interoperability framework based on metadata harvesting. Though the OAI-PMH is a very recent development it is being regarded as an important step towards information discovery in the digital library arena. This paper looks into the issues leading to its development as well as gives an inside view of the proposed model

    Image Indexing and Retrieval

    Get PDF
The amount of pictorial data has been growing enormously with the expansion of WWW. From the large number of images, it is very important for users to retrieve required images via an efficient and effective mechanism. To solve the image retrieval problem, many techniques have been devised addressing the requirement of different applications. Problem of the traditional methods of image indexing have led to the rise of interest in techniques for retrieving images on the basis of automatically derived features such as color, texture and shape… a technology generally referred as Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR). After decade of intensive research, CBIR technology is now beginning to move out of the laboratory into the marketplace. However, the technology still lacks maturity and is not yet being used in a significant scale

    eXtensible Markup Language: A Tutorial

    Get PDF
SGML (Standard Generalized Markup Language) is mother of all the markup languages. eXtensible Markup Language (XML) is a derivative of SGML. In the Internet arena Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) is found to be unsuitable particularly when it comes to attach semantics to the data. That is why XML was developed. XML is still not a completely matured technology and more and more specifications are coming up. Currently XML version 1.0 is released by W3C. This paper is written to give an overview about the designing of a XML based solution for library science professionals
