Fashion and Film: The Art of Costume Design
Get PDFA costume designer’s job is to create wardrobes that fit the film’s aesthetic, context, and personality of each character. Costume designers take inspiration from trends, incorporating them into their work through their own creative process, inspiring fashion designers and trend-setters to implement the styles in new ways. Thus, producing an endless cycle — an ecosystem wherein both fashion and film thrive off each other, continuously evolving to create beauty on and off the screen. Aligning my creativity and knowledge of both fashion and film, I participated in the making of six student films, costuming over 30 named characters as well as several extras. These films were set in various time periods, environments, and genres, testing my adaptability and range of fashion understanding

Get PDFHigh explosive experimentation (HEE) is a technical industry that is regulated, expensive, and dangerous. Developing novel technologies to aid in predictive abilities to minimize the industry’s reliance on the need for full-scale experiments is a worthwhile endeavor. Having the capacity to make accurate predictions regarding the overpressure of a detonation wave after it has interacted with various geometries is useful, but the current state of predictive techniques is limited with many techniques, either neglecting relevant acoustic phenomena or not being able to account for complex geometries. This thesis provides an overview of several acoustic phenomena and the current state of associated predictive technologies. Finally, suggestions for future research are included
Honors Students’ Perceptions of the Strength and Growth Areas of Liberty’s Honors Program: An Ethnography
Get PDFIn her pursuit of both exploring and documenting Liberty University’s Honors culture, the author takes an ethnographic research approach; surveying existing literature on the history and development of Liberty’s Honors Program, expounding upon the concept of honors culture, surveying the effects of the new Honors College track’s implementation, and identifying honors students’ perceptions of the strengths and growth areas of the Honors Program. This study includes a literature review, the collection of 12 formal interviews, and use of the participant observation research method to analyze Liberty honors students’ perceptions of the program; ultimately ascertaining what they believe to be the program’s greatest strengths, as well as analyzing both their perceptions of the program’s growth areas and their recommendations for future development. This ethnography was designed so that the results could be implemented in further development of Liberty’s Honors Program; that through the surveyance of honors students’ perspectives, both the Honors Program and the greater student body alike might know how to better equip, support, and serve the honors community

The home healthcare industry delivers essential patient care services in residential settings while health administrators confront critical legal and ethical challenges. This research proposal seeks to explore the legal and ethical issues facing health administrators in the home healthcare industry, focusing on five primary areas: Health administrators in home healthcare must address legal and ethical challenges including eligibility criteria compliance, elder abuse and neglect cases, labor law adherence and worker rights protection as well as ethical patient care decisions along with healthcare worker overwork and burnout. The study will assess legal consequences and non-compliance risks related to insufficient documentation of home healthcare eligibility. The investigation will survey how common elder abuse is in home healthcare settings by evaluating legal penalties for neglect and abuse while identifying strategies for administrators to address these challenges. The proposal presents solutions to home healthcare labor law violations by focusing on wage disputes and overtime pay enforcement through the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The fourth research area examines how healthcare providers face ethical challenges when balancing patient autonomy against paternalistic actions while assessing the legal and ethical risks of these conflicting principles. The research will explore how worker burnout affects healthcare workers\u27 mental and physical health and its consequences for patient care and legal outcomes. This research intends to develop a thorough understanding of the legal and ethical challenges affecting the home healthcare industry from health administrators\u27 viewpoints. The research will present actionable solutions to boost compliance levels while advancing ethical decision-making practices and building work environments that protect healthcare workers from burnout and maintain patient safety. The research relies on case studies, interviews with healthcare leaders, and literature reviews to produce essential findings for resolving ongoing home healthcare challenges
The Boxer Rebellion and Missionaries: A Study of Historical Context and Ideological Perspectives
Get PDFThe Boxer Rebellion (1899–1901) was a pivotal anti-foreign, anti-Christian, and anti-imperialist uprising in northern China, shaped by the interplay of three key perspectives: imperial forces, missionaries, and the Boxers themselves. From the imperial viewpoint, the Qing dynasty initially opposed but later supported the Boxers, aiming to resist Western encroachment and preserve sovereignty amidst growing foreign aggression. Missionaries, representing Western religious influence, were perceived as cultural disruptors, fueling anti-Christian sentiment due to their perceived arrogance and interference in local affairs. The Boxers, a grassroots movement blending martial arts and spiritual beliefs, sought to expel foreigners and restore traditional values, believing themselves divinely protected in their righteous cause. Ultimately, the Eight-Nation Alliance\u27s intervention crushed the rebellion, leading to significant indemnities and weakening the Qing authority. How Much is Too Much?
Get PDFThis paper examines the question of whether or not the court has a right to intervene on a prosecutor’s decision that was made within their discretion and analyze it to ensure it was made in “good faith.” This issue comes from a circuit split in the 10th circuit regarding plea agreements, United States v. Doe. The defendant appealed the first verdict and one of the grounds on which Doe appealed was that the prosecutor acted in bad faith when they refused to file a substantial assistance motion. While this decision was within the prosecutor’s discretion, the court is still faced with the question of how far discretion can stretch, that question is what this paper analyzes; textually. The two sides come from two different cases, United States v. Isaac, stated that the prosecutor has sole discretion not to file and the court cannot intervene one way or another. However, on the other side, United States v. Aderholt stated that while the prosecutor has discretion, that can be lost when they act in “bad faith,” which can be defined as doing something unconstitutional. The Court in Doe ruled with the precedent of Aderholt but remanded the decision to be sent down to the lower courts for further analysis. Additionally, to the question of court intervention of prosecutor’s discretion, this paper also analyzes the question of what Constitutional rights the defendant in a plea agreement has. Textually analyzing both cases, using relevant precedent to aid in providing a full perspective on the questions presented. Finally, this paper ends briefly by using textual evidence to recommend an answer to the question of court intervention on prosecutor’s discretion

The novel was well received; in 2003 it earned several awards including the Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize and Whitbread Book of the Year, and in 2004 it placed top ten in YALSA Best Books for Young Adults. Critics attribute the book’s success to Haddon’s insightful portrayal of an autistic central character, while Haddon himself has stated that he wishes the book wasn’t held up as an example of an autistic narrative, and that “good literature is always about peeling labels off” (markhaddon.com). “Germany’s Noble Cause Must Prevail”: General August von Mackensen on the Great War\u27s Eastern Front, 1914-17
Get PDFEnglish-language accounts and appraisals of the Western Front have long dominated the historiography of the Great War. This prevailing interpretation tends to cast a shadow over other, nonetheless critical sectors of fighting and diminish contributions made on these fronts by less well-known commanders and the men who served under them. While the Western Front boasts a rich catalog of scholarship, few popular accounts exist about those who carved out a legacy for themselves on the Eastern Front, a sector of the war that saw some of the most desperate fighting but has since been relegated to the footnotes of history. However, as the body of scholarship continues to deepen and the focus of historians shifts eastward, as yet untold stories of sacrifice and glory on the backwater battlefields of Russia, Poland, and the Balkan lands have begun to emerge. Such is the case with one of the German Empire’s most successful field armies, Heeresgruppe Mackensen, or Army Group Mackensen. This force, comprised primarily of soldiers from the Imperial German Army, but occasionally supplemented by Austro-Hungarian, Bulgarian, and Ottoman troops, sundered the Russian advance in Poland in early 1915, defeated the persistent Serbian Army later that same year, and conquered Romania in 1916 after only four months of fighting. Much of the army’s success can be attributed to its principal commander and namesake, the keen Generalfeldmarschall August von Mackensen, as well as his brilliant chief of staff, Hans von Seeckt. The victories they achieved bolstered the resolve of the German and Austro-Hungarian armies and contributed greatly to the closing of that front in early 1918. THE LIVED SELF-CARE EXPERIENCES OF PARENTS OF CHILDREN WITH SEVERE INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES: A PHENOMENOLOGICAL STUDY
Get PDFThe purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to understand the lived self-care experiences of parents of children with severe intellectual disabilities (CWSID) who attend a special needs school accommodating children with various learning disabilities. Self-care is defined as deliberate action to control problems that lead to an improved quality of life and good health. The theory guiding this study was the transactional model of stress and coping theory. The study\u27s central research question was, “What are the lived self-care experiences of parents of children with SID?” The qualitative phenomenological design allowed the data to be collected about the lived experiences of people in their natural settings, and a collective meaning of essence created, including the researcher’s experiences and understanding of the phenomenon. Ten parents with children with SID participated in the study. Data was collected through individual interviews using semi-structured questions, journal prompts, and artifacts. Data analysis used Moustakas’s 1994 modified Stevick-Colaizzi-Keen method of analysis. Four themes were extracted from the findings: loss and transformation of self-care, barriers that prevent self-care, benefits of practising self-care, and coping strategies in practising self-care. The results indicated that parents sacrificed their self-care, redefined and deprioritized it, as they prioritized their child\u27s needs over their own well-being
