    FinTech Opportunities in Eastern Europe

    No full text
In many geographic regions, the use of mobile banking apps is increasing to expand financial inclusion, enhance economic development, and improve quality of life. While great potential exists in Bulgaria, Estonia, Moldova, Romania, and Ukraine, only limited use of fintech (financial technology) has occurred. This slow acceptance of digital finance is partially explained by a limited phone culture and the political environment in these countries. In contrast, Kenya and South Africa have experienced extensive use of fintech for savings, loans, and transfers of digital funds

An Affair in the White House: How the Monica Lewinsky Scandal Changed the American Media Landscape

    No full text
The Monica Lewinsky scandal is one of the most high-profile and impactful scandals in American political history that led to the impeachment of President Bill Clinton. In this paper, I argue that the Lewinsky scandal changed the American media landscape. I will do so by examining previous political sex scandals and the manner they were reported and dealt with by the news media. I will use this background to examine various changes in the news media that correlated with the reporting of the Lewinsky scandal. I will also look at examples post-Lewinsky scandal to support my claim that the Lewinsky scandal changed the America media landscape

    Digitizing a Church

    No full text
As part of the Richter Scholars program at Lake Forest College, we worked closely with Benjamin Zeller to design an interactive 360° virtual reality tour of Lake Forest’s First Presbyterian Church. We researched the history of the church in order to highlight noteworthy facts and features at relevant locations within the church. Using the cutting-edge software Panotour Pro, we designed mobile and desktop virtual tours in order to maximize performance on popular digital media platforms. This technology will allow students and others to have an immersive, educational experience of religious institutions without having to travel to those spaces

The Effect of Innovation on China\u27s Distribution of Income

    No full text
China’s recent economic growth has turned the country into one of the major players in the global economy. However, the benefits of that growth have not been evenly distributed among the population. As the growth rate is losing its double-digit power, the economy is transitioning into innovation-driven growth that prioritizes science and technology development over mass production. This paper explores the extent to which the diffusion of innovation will improve the distribution of the benefits of economic growth across provinces in China

Can the past predict the future: Use of the Monte Carlo Simulation to value American, European and Asian options

    No full text
This thesis examines the valuation methods used for pricing European and American call options that do not pay dividends. Options are financial instruments that play an important role in financial industry and are used in hedging, speculating and arbitraging. Because options are widely used in investing, there is a need for valuation methods that are as precise as possible. Options have been perceived as obscure financial instruments due to the lack of valuation techniques in the past. However, with the discovery of Black-Scholes Model in 1973, the first option valuation method, option trading escalated. In this thesis, the fair market value of S&P 500 index with European and American exercise style will be obtained by using the Black-Scholes Model, the Monte Carlo Simulation and the Cox-Ross Binomial Pricing Model. The results from three models will be compared and contrasted in order to determine the best valuation method
