Effect of sports drinks on respiratory quotient during moderate exercise
P(論文)The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of sports drinks on respiratory quotient (RQ) during moderate exercise, Six young male subjects (aged 20 yr) participated in this study, after the informed consent was obtained from all subjects. Subjects performed a maximal test and four exercises at 50% of maximal oxygen uptake (VO[2]max) using a bicycle ergometer. During exercise tests VO[2], carbon dioxide excretion and RQ were measured by the respiratory gas analyzer. Subjects randomly drunk water or three sports drinks (Pocarisweat, VAAM, Gatorade) (200 ml) before 10 min at the beginning of each exercise, then exercised at 50% VO[2]max for 20min. At rest VO[2] and RQ were 3.6±0.4 ml/kg/min and 0.90±0.09, respectively. VO[2] increased 1.6±3.8 ml/kg/min at 20 min exercise (p<0.001). RQ during exercise was not statistically different from at rest. The differences in VO[2] and RQ among four drinks were not found. These results suggest that VO[2] and RQ during exercise is not extended by the intake of sports drinks.departmental bulletin pape
The left-behind children in rural districts in China
P(論文)The Purpose of this paper is to consider the problem of left-behind children who are 17 or younger live apart from one or both of their parents because they are working in places other than in their hometown. Not as many people could have anticipated what the ACWF (The All-China Women's Federation) report reveals-more than a quarter of Chinese children who are 17 or younger live apart from one or both of their parents because they are working in places other than in their hometown. The preschool and compulsory education years of life play an essential part not just in forming one's personality, but also in the acquisition of the knowledge and skills that last a person's entire life. Out of respect for their special vulnerability, children in this age group need particular parental care. Few of those left behind are home alone, most are left in the custody of grandparents, but the separation from their parents will inevitably affect their development in less-than-positive ways. It is inspiring to see, local governments and volunteers providing welfare and educational guarantees. Such efforts offer an indispensable compensation for the otherwise unbearable sense of loss these youngsters must cope with as a result of living without parental care.departmental bulletin pape
Influence of preschool-teacher-efficacy, social skills and work satisfaction on mental health
P(論文)The purpose of the present study was to investigate preschool teacher's mental health and to examine the influence of preschool-teacher-efficacy, social skills and work satisfaction on their mental health. One hundred preschool teachers (8 males, 92 females) were administered a questionnaire including preschool teacher-efficacy scale, Kiss-18, work satisfaction scale and BDI-II. With regard to the situation of mental health, preschool teachers scored slightly lower than the general level. Pass analysis indicated that 1) preschool-teacher-efficacy and social skills had a significant effect on work satisfaction, and 2) social skills and work satisfaction affected mental health significantly. Social skills influenced mental health of preschool teachers directly while preschool-teacher-efficacy had an effect on it indirectly. These results suggested that social skills training for preschool teachers would be effective in order to their mental health.departmental bulletin pape
Factors affecting the ability of persons with mental illness to return to work and community activities : a focus on company employees
P(論文)The current trend in the mental health care system in Japan is to enable patients to live in the community. This research interview study included 11 employees at Company A who were diagnosed with a mental illness and examined the factors affecting their ability to return to work and community activities. Data in 4 categories were analyzed: challenges of community life (ability to cope with difficulties), independence in daily activities, new discovery of self (loss of a special existence), and living with prejudice and obstacles. Learning to overcome the challenges faced in society (ordinary difficulties) and encountering a variety of people helped to foster independent living skills. Patients also regained confidence in themselves and others and spoke of a promising future. A system focusing on a "return to independence" is essential to help mentally ill persons reintegrate into the community. Therefore, this issue must be addressed in the future.departmental bulletin pape
Children with developmental disorders who passed infant health checkups: cases with no risk at birth
P(論文)The enhancement of maternal and child health programs has enabled early detection and intervention in routine health examination for children. However, there are regional differences in the contents of children with mild developmental disorders who had no risks at birth but had developmental problems that were overlooked during infant health checkups. Case 1 was a child whose disability was noticed by the caregiver but who passed the health checkup and was unable to receive appropriate follow-up. The disorder was detected by a speech therapist through a community childcare support program. Case 2 was a child whose disability was not noticed by the caregiver and who passed the health checkup. The disorder was detected by a speech therapist through the consultation system at our department. Based on these two cases, the following problems concerning existing screening checklist systems were identified as the causes of failure to detect disorders during checkups: lack of screening items, low expertise of personnel conducting checkups, lenient criteria, and insufficient follow-up systems. Considering the necessity for early detection and intervention in children with disabilities and the importance of follow-up after checkups, it was considered necessary for speech-language-hearing therapists to be actively involved in the check up program.departmental bulletin pape
Basic examination of the cell membrane permeability of site probe agents using a cell membrane plate
P(論文)Drug efficacy depends on the amount of a preparation reaching the target tissue (grade of tissue transfer). In this experiment, we established the normal albumin concentration of a healthy adult (600 μ M) or a low-albumin state indicating marked liver hypofunction (100 μ M) on a cell membrane plate, and evaluated the cell membrane permeability of the probe agents. The cell membrane permeability of phenytoin or valproate depended on the concentration of albumin. Probe agent site-I and -II inhibitors, bucolome and oleic acid, respectively, increased the cell membrane permeability. In the future, the cell membrane permeability of probe agents should be further investigated to estimate the tissue transfer of agents based on various laboratory data (albumin, free fatty acids, uremic toxins, and bilirubin).departmental bulletin pape
