What has been measured in sense of direction questionnaires? : A bibliographic review
P(論文)This paper reviewed studies that reported on sense of direction questionnaires in terms of their construct processes, the contents of their sub-scales, and their relations to spatial tasks. In the construct processes, the number of items used in pilot studies was small. In the contents of subscales, it was common among studies to possess sub-scales which measured awareness of orientation, and memory for usual spatial behavior. In the relations to spatial tasks, the relation between sense of direction questionnaires and spatial tasks was strong in many studies. In the future, to construct sense of direction questionnaires which have high predictive validity, it is necessary to increase the number of items, to consider what elements are included in sense of direction, and to construct items which are easy for participants to understand.departmental bulletin pape
Investigation of differences in university students' daily physical activity by transportation type
P(論文)The purpose of this study was to investigate a difference of daily physical activity by the type of transportation to attend university. Thirty six university students (21 males, 15 females) participated in this study. The subjects were classified in four groups (bicycle, motor bicycle, bus and car) by the type of the transportation. Daily physical activity was measured by a pedometer (Lifecorder GS) for 14 days. The pedometer was worn on the right waist. The number of daily steps in the weekday was not found the significant difference in four groups (bicycle : 7,485.3±1,990.2 steps, motor bicycle : 8,033.3±2,940.3 steps, bus : 8,258.3±4,000.9 steps, car : 6,190.5±1,865.1 steps, mean±SD). Energy expenditure estimated by a pedometer was also found not differ significantly by group. The number of daily steps was 7,471±2,859 steps on weekdays and 7,475±3,599 steps during the weekend. We concluded that the difference of daily physical activity by transportation was not found.departmental bulletin pape
Measurement of Cognitive Function in Elderly People with Hearing Loss : Ideas for Conducting the Mini-Mental State Examination
P(論文)We created a modified version of the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) for persons with hearing loss (HL) and tested its reliability, validity and effectiveness among 40 elderly participants. We extracted the MMSE items `registration', `recall', `repetition' and `comprehension' and in the HL condition, these four items were only presented with simultaneous spoken and written instructions. The results were as follows: (1) The HL test-retest coefficient of correlation was r = 0.74; Cronbach's α was 0.64. (2) In the non-hearing loss group, the HL test results showed a correlation with the MMSE, the Oldest-Old version of the Cognitive Assessment Questionnaire and the Clinical Dementia Rating(CDR-J). (3) A 2-way ANOVA was conducted with cognitive function as the within-subjects factor and hearing loss as the between-subjects factor; for total score, `registration' and `repetition', the effect of cognitive function test was significant only in the hearing loss group. The retest reliability of HL, its concurrent validity and its effectiveness were confirmed. It is desirable to administer the standard MMSE to persons with hearing loss if they can use hearing aids or adjustments can be made to the volume. However, if such modifications are not possible, HL may be useful in cases where it is necessary to repeat questions.departmental bulletin pape
Creation of video materials for scenarios related to drug misadministration/condition changes using a patient simulator
P(論文)Pharmacists are required to confirm vital signs during physical assessment from a pharmaceutical viewpoint and act on active prescription suggestions, confirm the drug efficacy, prevent or report the early detection of adverse effects to doctors. However, few teaching materials are available for pharmacists related to the confirmation of vital signs and physical assessments. Thus, there is ademand for such teaching materials among pharmacists. Therefore, we tasted scenarios using a pharmacy simulation with a patient simulator, Which was constructed for use in bedside training and vital signs practice, We made these resources available as web teaching materials. The content related to drug misadministration involved excessive insulin administration, rapid intravenous injection of potassium preparations, and that related to condition changes involved haemorrhage, hyperglycaemia, anaphylactic shock and asthmatic ventricular fibrillation. These video teaching resources are accessible via the homepage of the Kyushu University of Health and Welfare.departmental bulletin pape

Comparative analysis of the characteristics of retirement homes and their residents in urban and rural areas
P(論文)This study's aim is to propose measures for the planning of residences for the elderly needing care services in rural areas. In our research we investigated the characteristics of existing retirement homes and their residents in Miyazaki and Oita prefectures. Data were collected from retirement homes from both prefectures which is available on the official website responses and from responses to a questionnaire distributed at 270 retirement homes. The response rate from questionnaires was 33.7% (91 homes). Our results indicated that retirement homes built after 2006 accounted for 82.2% of retirement homes. Building retirement homes have expanded quickly during the past five years. Rents in urban areas for housing were expensive in comparison with the rural areas. However, the housing in urban areas were locations favorably situated for city services; whereas the rural areas houses, though less expensive, were not well situated for access to services. Elderly individuals who needed only light care and those who needed a high level of care lived in same retirement homes. The majority of residents who had moved to the retirement home from their own house had been living alone but were concerned personal safety. Common reasons for leaving retirement housing were serious illness and death.departmental bulletin pape
