Design and development consideration for intrusion detection and prevention systems.
The Concept of networking and storage had been introduced in the world decades before and thus gives us opportunity to share, store and disseminate the information among different people from different destination regardless of the transmission technology used via computer networks. The readily available information brings very comfort to human society, but it also makes the data / information vulnerable to attacks and threats. In order to counter with such issues, some remedy have been implemented to secure the information in networking technology, one field emerges recently known as “Intrusion Detection System”. The field emerges from the Anderson’s paper which was released in 1984. Up to this time, researchers and security professionals were using firewalls and antivirus for securing information, but were not fully secure. For the same intrusion detection system came into existence. While implementing the intrusion detection system, the researcher and security professionals face lot of problems viz selection of appropriate intrusion detection system for an organization, reduction in false alarm rate and increase in detection rate. The thesis has made an attempt to cover the topics mentioned above. The thesis is divided in six chapters, in first chapter, the author tries to throw some light on the introduction of the intrusion detection system with motivation for taking the topic and the challenges faced in the recent intrusion detection system. The chapter also describes the contribution made by the author during the present study.Digital copy of Ph.D thesis.University of Kashmir
Islam and science :a study of major perspectives.
To our knowledge, there exists no work that deals exclusively
with the theme of our research problem. However, there is no dearth
of literature that deals with various aspects of Islam and science. The
holy Qur’ān, primarily the Book of Hidāyah, is replete with āyāt that
provide broader framework on various natural phenomenon and
scientific facts. In a number of Ahadith-i-Nabwi (S.A.W.S) one can
derive sufficient inspiration for scientific enquiry. We shall, here,
precisely refer to some prominent works that touch upon directly or
indirectly some of the aspects of the problem under investigation in
the present work
Accreditation of Library and Information science courses on establishing standards for accreditation in Indian Universities with special emphasis on establishing standards.
The sphere of higher education has been marked by a phenomenal expansion during the last four decades all over the world. It must also be accepted that doubt arises in the minds of scholars about the usefulness of university education. The effectiveness of any system hinges on the system's ability to achieve its objectives. How satisfactory and successful the process is in achieving its objectives would indicate the quality or standards of the system.University of Kashmi
Public library systems in Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab: Development and assessment.
Public Library has been playing a significant role in human society ever since its establishment. Beginning with conservative services the institution gradually adopted a liberal role to become a people’s university. It is founded on the belief that access to information is essential to produce a society that is well informed able to discriminate between what is right and what is wrong and thus play a constructive role in the advancement of the society. Naturally, its paramount role is now well recognized in social, political, economic, scientific and cultural enterprises in
human society. As Public Library assumed the role of essential services, the public libraries began to be organized to offer free services. To ensure this free-ship, uniformity and consistency these libraries have been provided with legislative foundation in most of the countries, though in other countries other than legislative measures have been adopted to ensure efficient, uniform public library services.Digitized version of Print copyUniversity of Kashmir
Resource sharing among University and College Libraries in Jammu and Kashmir with a proposed model.
We live in an information age. The arrival of this age was heralded by popular writers on social change like Alvin Toffler, Bell and others. Teffler, for example, wrote of a revolution sweeping society in to an ‘Info-sohere” which was transforming the work force from one that endures long hours of physical effort into one that is dependent on information.Digitized version of Print copy.University of Kashmi
Social Intelligence and Academic Achievement of College Students – A Study of District Srinagar
The history of the rise, progress and development of advanced
countries shows that they have given due consideration and
importance to higher education and all their progress owes a
lot to the advancement and priority given to higher education. Higher
education plays leadership role in all aspects of life. By providing
quality education we can produce quality products. Each person has an
individual profile of characteristics and abilities that result from
predispositions, learning and development. These manifest as individual
differences in intelligence, creativity and many more. Social intelligence
refers to the ability to read other people and understand their intentions
and motivations. People with this intelligence are usually clued into the
differences between what others say and what they really mean. As a
result, socially intelligent types may sometimes be accused of being
mind readers. People who successfully use this type of intelligence can
be masterful conversationalists. This can be due to a combination of
excellent listening skills and the ability to meaningfully engage others.
People who are socially intelligent can usually make others feel
comfortable. They also tend to enjoy interacting with a variety of
people.
It is social intelligence or the richness of our qualitative life,
rather than our quantitative intelligence, that truly makes human what
they are. According to Social Scientist Ross Honey Will, “Social
Intelligence is an aggregated measure of self and social awareness,
evolved social beliefs and attitudes and a capacity and appetite to
manage complex social change.” It can be described as a combination of
abilities: the first is a basic understanding of people (i.e. a kind of strategic social awareness) and the second is the skills needed for
interacting successfully with them, in other words, the ability to get
along with others and to encourage them to cooperate with you. Social
Intelligence can be thought of encompassing five dimensions: Presence,
Clarity, Awareness, Authenticity and Empathy. People with high Social
Intelligence are often said to have “Nourishing Behaviours” which make
others around them feel valued, loved, respected and appreciated. These
people are very appealing to others and are often described as having a
“Magnetic Personality.” Conversely people low in Social Intelligence
are often described as “Toxic” they cause others to feel angry, devalued,
frustrated, inadequate or guilty. They are often very alienating people.
Interestingly, however, often people can be unintentionally “Toxic” and
their low Social Intelligence is simply due to lack of insights. In other
words, they are often so preoccupied with personal stresses that they fail
to see the impact of the behaviour on others. They will often undergo
radical behavioural or even personality changes when made to see
themselves as others see them
