    A Sustainable Reverse Engineering Process

    Reverse engineering mimics critical features of an existing object to create its accurate or enhanced virtual/physical models. It is thus useful in creating the digital footprints of an object. It requires sophisticated devices, computing facilities, and high human skills. Thus, a reverse engineering process becomes sustainable if it is less dependent on sophisticated devices, computations, and human skills. From this point of view, this study presents a sustainable reverse engineering process consisting of five steps. The first step describes a given object using some elementary geometric shapes. The second step represents the elementary geometric shapes using some simulated planner point clouds. The third step creates coordinated point clouds by combining the point clouds of the second step. The fourth step creates a solid model using an off-the-shelf CAD package. The fifth step creates a 3D printed prototype using the solid CAD model. The process is compared with the traditional scanned point cloud-based reverse engineering. The comparison shows that it is free from computational complexity, creates comparatively accurate models, and works very fast. Integrating the presented reverse engineering process with a product life cycle engineering can contribute to sustainable product development.journal articl

    Clouds and Radiation Processes in Regional Climate Models Evaluated Using Observations Over the Ice-free Arctic Ocean

    Abstract The presence of clouds in the Arctic regulates the surface energy budget (SEB) over the sea-ice surface and the ice-free ocean. Following several previous field campaigns, the cloud-radiation relationship, including cloud vertical structure and phase, has been elucidated; however, modeling of this relationship has matured slowly. In recognition of the recent decline in the Arctic sea-ice extent, representation of the cloud system in numerical models should consider the effects of areas covered by sea ice and ice-free areas. Using an in situ stationary meteorological observation data set obtained over the ice-free Arctic Ocean by the Japanese Research Vessel Mirai (September 2014), coordinated evaluation of six regional climate models (RCMs) with nine model runs was performed by focusing on clouds and the SEB. The most remarkable findings were as follows: (1) reduced occurrence of unstable stratification with low-level cloud water in all models in comparison to the observations, (2) significant differences in cloud water representations between single- and double-moment cloud schemes, (3) extensive differences in partitioning of hydrometeors including solid/liquid precipitation, and (4) pronounced lower-tropospheric air temperature biases. These issues are considered as the main sources of SEB uncertainty over ice-free areas of the Arctic Ocean. The results from a coupled RCM imply that the SEB is constrained by both the atmosphere and the ocean (and sea ice) with considerable feedback. Coordinated improvement of both stand-alone atmospheric and coupled RCMs would promote a more comprehensive and improved understanding of the Arctic air-ice-sea coupled system.journal articl

    北海道胆振東部地震の際,札幌市豊平区月寒東地区の造成地では液状化に伴う滑動変形と地震動による盛土部の圧縮沈下が原因とみられる最大0.3mの段差が生活道路に発生し,これによる交通障害が発生した.この対策の一つとして,筆者らは撤去・再構築も可能なジオセルを用いた生活道路を対象とした段差抑制対策工に関する検討を続けている.本稿では,最適なジオセルサイズと不織布の巻き方に加え,規格値を満足するのに必要な転圧方法を得るために実施した大型クレーンを用いた実大模型試験について詳述する.また,実大舗装路で実施した引抜き試験についても記載し,その結果に基づいて対策工の引抜き抵抗力を算出し,切土部の敷設長についても検討した.journal articl

    長期モニタリングによる鋼鈑桁橋の固有振動特性に部材温度が与える影響

    The long-term vibration monitoring of a steel girder bridge in the cold region was performed to investigate the temperature dependency on the dynamic characteristics of the bridge structure. The predominant frequency varied depending on the daily and seasonal fluctuation of the bridge temperature. A FE model with different elastic modulus based on each assumed temperature gave the natural vibration frequencies analytically. These natural frequencies have the same tendency with the measured result that means the main cause of the variation of the predominant frequency is the thermal dependencies of the elastic modulus of the structural members.journal articl

    北見工業大学博士(工学)Allergy is a disorder of immune response that is classified into several types according to the mechanism involved. Immediate hypersensitivities such as hay fever and food allergies are categorized as type-I allergies, in which mast cells and basophilic leukocytes play an important role in the allergic reaction. Allergens are presented by dendritic cells. These cytokines induce the differentiation and class switching of B cells, and they become IgE productive plasma cells. IgEs released from plasma cells and they bind to the surface of mast cells. When the allergen reacts with IgE, that is antigen-antibody reaction, mast cells immediately release the chemical mediators, which lead to allergic symptoms such as cough and runny nose. Mast cell is stimulated by the antigen-antibody reaction, signal transduction and the intracellular increase of Ca2+ are induced. Histamine stored in the cells is released by degranulation. Histamine causes smooth muscle contraction and the promotion of mucus secretion. On the other hand, when phospholipase A2 is activated, arachidonic acid is released from the biological membrane, and leukotrienes (LTs) are produced by 5-lipoxygenase and released. LTs promote the chronicity of allergic symptoms by migrating eosinophils to allergic reaction sites. Inflammation is a response of body tissues to pathogens, broken cells, or irritants, and is a protecting reaction related to immune cells, blood vessels, and molecular mediators. The chemical mediator launched in hypersensitivity or the like acts on blood vessels to boom blood glide and decorate vascular permeability. This promotes exudation of frame fluids and blood proteins, and neighborhood migration and infiltration of inflammatory cells which include neutrophils, lymphocytes, and macrophages. As a result, inflammatory signs and symptoms along with redness, heat, swelling, and pain are exhibited. Echinacea was used at length by Native Americans and by traditional herbalists in the United States, and in Canada. Many different medical conditions such as sore throat, swollen gum, gastrointestinal disorder were treated with Echinacea roots long ago by native Americans. The term Echinacea refers to several plants in the genus Echinacea. While there are nine known species of Echinacea, only the three of them, Echinacea purpurea, Echinacea angustifolia, and Echinacea pallida, are used as medicinal plants for the prevention and treatment of the common cold and influenza. Echinacea purpurea is a kind of herbaceous perennial flowering plant of Asteracea family, and it is widely distributed all over the world. Native Americans utilize its roots as medicine and European people have it for herb tea, also known as the purple coneflower. The functions are Echinacea polyphenols such as caffeic acid derivatives including chicoric acid, which are abundant in the roots.
