Transdermal delivery of selegiline from alginate-Pluronic composite thermogels
The present work was carried out to design a practical, controlled-release transdermal system for selegiline using thermosensitive hydrogels. The copolymers of alginate and Pluronic F127 (PF127) were used to design thermogels by either physical blending (A+P) or chemical grafting (AP). The thermogels were characterized in terms of the sol-gel temperature, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), degradation ratio, and skin permeation behavior. The chemical grafting of alginate to PF127 could delay the sol-gel temperature from 24.1 to 30.4°C, which is near the temperature of the skin surface. The gelling temperature of the physical mixture of alginate and PF127 (A+P) did not significantly differ. The porosity of the A+P structure was greater compared to that of the AP structure. AP thermogels were regularly degraded, with 60% of the gel matrix remaining after a 48-h incubation. PF127 and A+P hydrogels showed almost no degradation. The results of skin permeation across porcine skin and nude mouse skin suggested that the thermogels could produce sustained selegiline release, with AP showing the most-sustained permeation. AP hydrogels exhibited linear permeation properties for the transdermal delivery of selegiline. Inter-subject variations in skin permeation were reduced by incorporation of the thermogel. Such a thermosensitive hydrogel can be advantageous as a topical therapeutic formulation for selegiline. Copyright © 2011. Published by Elsevier B.V.

Anti-breast cancer activity of some novel 1,2-dihydropyridine, thiophene and thiazole derivatives.
A variety of novel 1,2-dihydropyridines 10-17, thiophenes 18-21 and thiazole 22 having a biologically active sulfone moiety were obtained via the reaction of 2-cyano-N'-[1-(4-(piperidin-1-ylsulfonyl) phenyl) ethylidene] acetohydrazide 3 with a variety of reagents. The structures of the newly synthesized compounds were confirmed by elemental analysis, IR, (1)H NMR, (13)C NMR and mass spectral data. All the newly synthesized compounds were evaluated for their in-vitro anticancer activity against human breast cancer cell line (MCF7). Compounds 15 and 11 with IC(50) values (20.6, 25.5 μM) exhibited better activity than Doxorubicin as a reference drug with IC(50) value (32.02 μM), while compound 14 is nearly as active as Doxorubicin as positive control. Personal Smart Spaces for Diabetics.
The Ad hoc pervasive computing provides an attractive vision for future computing and has a great influence on many fields that need to be smart with simple digital devices interacting and sharing services seamlessly and transparently. Healthcare is a key area that can benefit from smart digital spaces, especially extending services to out-of-hospital contexts. In this poster, we describe the design of a system, called Personal Smart Space (PSS), which provides an automated method for bootstrapping a personal space. Specifically, PSS will track a person's health and handle variations that may indicate a risk. The PSS is comprised of several services; namely, discovery management, event, description, and presentation. This poster describes the implementation and verification of this PSS for diabetic patients, which is comprised of 4 devices, 5 services and a coordinator. The PSS utilizes the UPnP protocol and XML standards to describe the devices and services to provide more flexibility. The novelty of this PSS lies in how the coordinator provides an interface to components (GPS, Camera, Glucose sensor, and mobile communication devices) and integrates a notification system as well as finding a backup device in cases of faults in one of the PSS components.King Saud Universit
Nursing documentation in Maternity clinical practice : Reflection of actual nurse's work load
The purpose: is to evaluate nurses' attitudes toward documentation for endorsing patient care and its value as mean of communication. Also to identify the problems and barriers in the nursing documentation for reflecting actual nurse work Load from nurses’ perspective. Methods:1. Design :An exploratory descriptive study design was used. 2. Setting: The study was conducted over three months (March - May 2010) in pre natal ,post natal and nursery departments, at Al aziziah Maternity and children hospital, in Jeddah. 3. Sample; A total of (160 ) female nurses working at the wards of the study settings, 60 of them of different nationality were recruited thought simple random sampling 4. Tools; A questionnaire sheet was developed by researchers for data collection, also Likert rating scale consisting of 10 items divided into two sections: documentation barrier (5 items), and Documentation-tension (5 items). The research tools was generated through review of the literature and consultation with nursing experts. The descriptive statistics of mean was use to analyze the data with a criterion mean at 2.50.
Results:. The present study findings revealed significant percentages of nurses’ agreement upon the benefit of documentation to patient care ,(48.7%) reported that nursing notes always facilitate the movement toward the nursing goals, documentation leads to improve patient care recorded (30%). Furthermore, the majority had reported that documentation is always related to nursing care that provided to patient (61.7%). On the other hand, 41.7% were thinking that documentation is often an accurate reflection of patient nursing care. Concerning the value of documentation to the nurses, (51.7%) agreed that use of documentation are often more of help for nurses than load, while (38.3%) reported that nursing notes are often important to every health provider and documentation is not wasting of time. Regarding documentation barriers, (30%) had agreed upon that documentation is too heavily structured by quality assurance, and Workload demands hinder the completing of patient documentation. while (35%) agreed upon the statement that Shortage of staff work hinder completing of patient documentation. While only (16.7%) agreed upon the statement that Language barrier decrease quality of nursing documentation, and (21.7%) reported that documentation consist a lot of double-charting and repetition
The impact of hemodialysis dialysis on the psychosocial state of patients with end stage renal disease, at Riyadh KAS
Many psychiatric disorders can be seen in patients with chronic renal failure (CRF). Hemodialysis , which is a renal replacement treatment, causes various psychosocial problems. Patients become dependent on due to nature of treatment, this condition causes various problems in patients. In addition, strict diet and continuous treatment are other stress factors.
The aim of the present study is to investigate the prevalence of psychosocial problems in patients with end stage renal disease.
Descriptive design is used Subjects 50 Patients of end stage renal disease hospitalized in the hemodialysis unit at Prince Salman Hospital Riyadh Saudi Arabia. The patients were interviewed with Beck Depression Inventory was used, sociodemographic information questionnaire.& SF-36 (Health Survey for dialysis Patients). Depression is a common psychosocial problems among the Saudi end stage renal disease population
Plaque and gingival health status among cerebral palsy children of Riyadh area
The objective of this study was to evaluate and describe the plaque and gingival health status in cerebral palsy (CP) children of Riyadh city. One hundred and forty non-institutionalized CP children (82 males & 58 females) were examined in the dental clinic of the Disabled Children Association Center, Riyadh, for presence of plaque and gingival inflammation. Children were divided into three age groups; the first (3-6 years) consisted of 41 children, second (7-9 years) consisted of 52 children and third (10-12 years) had 47 children. The highest mean plaque index (PI) was recorded for the first group. There was no significant (p>0.05) difference between the three groups examined. The highest mean gingival index (GI) was recorded for the third group which differed significantly from the first (p=0.000) and second (p= 0.001) groups. GI scores were found to be related to the oral hygiene OH status of the CP children examined, as the children with poor OH got the highest mean GI followed by children with fair then good OH. Neither PI nor GI scores were affected by the gender of the examined CP children. The CP children examined in this study had mild to moderate plaque accumulation and the gingival inflammation increased as the age of the children increase. Gender had no significant effect on the PI or GI scores obtained, and the GI scores were found to be related to the OH status.King Saud Universit

ES projects involve many factors in order for an organization to benefit from the system. ES training is one of the important factors in the ES projects. Beside a comprehensive, early, and continuous training plan that attached to the ES implementation plan, there should be a criterion to measure the quality of such training. As far as the organizations are concern they should be aware of the training methods. Effective Implementation of portal: Best Practice Model
Portals are the gateways that integrate the information from different sources in a single window and provide it to the end users. Portal implementation is a very intricate job as it requires a significant amount of resources and knowledge to invest. However portals have the ability to improve the status and ranking of an enterprise to the best of the customer satisfaction and employees moral. On the basis of these motivations we have proposed a model for the complete implementation and services delivery of portals. The model has two parts that describe the overall performance and the entire framework of the portal implementation. Finally the proposed model is an iterative model that can proudly accept changes at any stage of its implementation
Improved Distributed Genetic Algorithms Based on Their Methodologies
Abstract— In this paper we evaluate the effectiveness of three different distributed genetic algorithms (DGAs). The first one is DGA with Diversity Guided Migration, second one is DGA with Automated Adaptive Migration and the last one is DGA with Bicoded chromosomes and confidence rates. All these algorithms were investigated to improve the overall quality of solutions in the distributed genetic algorithm for different problems. Our comparison between those algorithms depended on some important factors; like, achieving diversity in selecting individuals, process of replacing the individuals between subpopulations, computational time and memory space. As a result, DGA with Diversity Guided Migration (DGM), was nominated to be better than the other DGAs. It improves the performance for many problems and search spaces
MISE-PIPE: Magnetic Induction-based Wireless Sensor Networks for Underground Pipeline Monitoring
Underground pipelines constitute one of the most important ways to transport large amounts of fluid (e.g. oil and water) through long distances. However, existing leakage detection techniques do not work well in monitoring the underground pipelines due to the harsh underground environmental conditions. In this paper, a new solution, the magnetic induction (MI)-based wireless sensor network for underground pipeline monitoring (MISE-PIPE), is introduced to provide low-cost and real-time leakage detection and localization for underground pipelines. MISE-PIPE detects and localizes leakage by jointly utilizing the measurements of different types of sensors that are located both inside and around the underground pipelines. By adopting an MI waveguide technique, the measurements of different types of the sensors throughout the pipeline network can be reported to the administration center in real-time. The system architecture and operational framework of MISE-PIPE is first developed. Based on the operational framework, research challenges and open research issues are then discussed
