İndoneziyanın Azərbaycanda yumşaq güc diplomatiyası: Azərbaycan Dillər Universitetində İndoneziya Araşdırma Mərkəzinin Tədqiqi
Faculty: Graduate School of Science, Arts and Technology
Department: Political Science and Philosophy
Qualification: International Relations and Diplomacy Supervisor: Elmar Mustafayev Telman, Ph.D.This thesis explores Indonesia’s soft power diplomacy in Azerbaijan, involving both state and non-state actors. The Indonesian Embassy in Baku functions as the main state actor in these diplomatic efforts, acting as a crucial governmental entity. Meanwhile, The Centre of Indonesian Studies at Azerbaijan University of Languages represents the central non-state actor examined in this study. The research aims to provide a detailed understanding of Indonesia’s soft power implementation in Azerbaijan by focusing on the strategies, activities, goals, and achievements of these two institutions from their establishment to the present. The research scope is confined to key individuals within these institutions. At the Indonesian Embassy, the study focuses on the Indonesian Ambassador to Azerbaijan and the diplomat responsible for Information and Socio-Cultural Affairs. Meanwhile, at The Centre of Indonesian Studies, the founder, head, students, and alumni form the primary subjects of the analysis. This thesis emphasizes Indonesia’s approach to soft power diplomacy, examining its methods and goals within the context of Azerbaijani engagement. The research presents the perspective of Indonesia’s diplomatic efforts, illustrating how soft power is utilized to foster relations. Notably, the actors in this diplomatic process include both Indonesian and Azerbaijani entities. Additionally, the study narrows its focus to cultural and educational dimensions of soft power, as these areas are pivotal in shaping bilateral relations
Distribution of Highly Yielding Dairy Cows Pododermatitis by Age Groups
Clinical studies were conducted on 1,248 heads of highly yielding dairy cows (Simmental, Holstein Friesian, black-and-white and Swiss breeds) in private livestock farms in Siyazan, Masally, Absheron and Shamakhi districts of Azerbaijan. In Siyazan district 238 cows of black-and-white breeds, in Masalli district – 363 heads of Simmental and Holstein-Friesian breeds, in Absheron district - 291 heads of Simmental and Holstein-Friesian breeds and in Shamakhi district – 356 ones of Swiss brown and black-and-white breeds of different age groups (calves up to 2 years old, from 2 to 5 years old and over 5 years old) were conducted researches. It has been established that a high degree of pododermatitis morbidity is observed in cows of black-and-white and Holstein-Friesian breeds at the age of 5 years and older
Classification of English Words into Grammatical Notations Using Deep Learning Technique
The impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on English language learning has become the center of attention in the past few decades. This study, with its potential to transform English language instruction and offer various instructional approaches, provides valuable insights and knowledge. To fully grasp the potential advantages of AI, more research is needed to improve, validate, and test AI algorithms and architectures. Grammatical notations provide a word’s information to the readers. If a word’s images are properly extracted and categorized using a CNN, it can help non-native English speakers improve their learning habits. The classification of parts of speech into different grammatical notations is the major problem that non-native English learners face. This situation stresses the need to develop a computer-based system using a machine learning algorithm to classify words into proper grammatical notations. A convolutional neural network (CNN) was applied to classify English words into nine classes: noun, pronoun, adjective, determiner, verb, adverb, preposition, conjunction, and interjection. A simulation of the selected model was performed in MATLAB. The model achieved an overall accuracy of 97.22%. The CNN showed 100% accuracy for pronouns, determiners, verbs, adverbs, and prepositions; 95% for nouns, adjectives, and conjunctions; and 90% for interjections. The significant results (p < 0.0001) of the chi-square test supported the use of the CNN by non-native English learners. The proposed approach is an important source of word classification for non-native English learners by putting the word image into the model. This not only helps beginners in English learning but also helps in setting standards for evaluating documents
Southern Khanates of Azerbaijan in the Documents of the Russian State Military Historical Archive
Starting from the beginning of the 19th century, Azerbaijan became the battlefield of two
great powers, Russia and the Qajar Empire. After 30 years of intermittent war, the territory
of Azerbaijan was occupied and divided by these two states. The Russo-Iranian war also
resulted in the division of the historical territory of Azerbaijan into two parts. As the result,
the concepts of North and South Azerbaijan were created. Since 1828, eleven Azerbaijani
khanates located in the south of the Aras River fell under Qajar rule. However, in spite of
this, in the 80 years of their existence, these khanates implemented an independent internal
and foreign policy and had political weight in the region. The economic, political and cultural
life of the khanates has been the subject of research at different times. Various sources,
including foreign ones, were used in these studies. Russian sources stand out among these
sources. Thus, a valuable document base has been collected in the archives of the Russian
Empire, which began military expansion in the region from the beginning of the 18th century.
Among these archives, the Russian state military-historical archive stands out. Since the
archive specializes in the protection of military documents, the documents of military
operations carried out by Russia in the Caucasus are preserved here. Documents also contain
information about the Southern khanates of Azerbaijan. This information is mainly about the
political, economic, geographical, cultural and social life of the khanates. The article is
dedicated to researching the history of Southern khanates based on these materials
Variation in Academic Writing: A Corpus-Based Investigation on the Use of Syntactic Features by Advanced L2 Academic Writers
Background: Writing means communication through words whereas academic writing means making careful use of words to communicate ideas to a range of readers and audiences. Therefore, academic writing reflects specificities related to audience, context/discipline and purpose of the use. These specificities result in ample differences in terms of language use. Purpose: This study investigates disciplinary variation in the use of different syntactic (i.e., clausal, intermediate and phrasal) features in academic writing produced by the Pakistani advanced writers of English as an L2 specializing in different disciplines of arts and humanities, life sciences, physical sciences and social sciences.Method: For the said purpose, the corpus has been developed from dissertation texts produced by the Pakistani doctoral candidates from 16 academic disciplines of four disciplinary divisions. The analysis has been performed using AntConc Software after tagging with Multidimensional Analysis, and TagAnt Taggers. Results: The results reveal mixed findings. On the one hand, the results show variation in the use of syntactic features that is observed to be marked by the difference in the frequency of the different types of the said features across disciplines. On the other hand, the results show a similarity in the use of syntactic features that has been evidenced by the finding that the most and least frequently used features are identical across disciplines. Conclusion: These results suggest both heterogeneity and homogeneity in the use of syntactic features by the Pakistani advanced L2 academic writers. The results of this study have implications for educators, policy makers, and syllabus designers to ensure discipline-specific instruction, and incorporation of the discipline-specific syntactic features into the academic curricula for supporting academic writing development skills in the students particularly at the advanced level of education
