Synthesis, crystal structure and Hirshfeld surface analysis of 7-oxo-6-phenyl-6,7-dihydro-5H-thieno- [2,3-f]isoindole-8-carboxylic acid

    No full text
In the title compound, C17H11NO3S, the thieno[2,3-f]isoindole ring system and the phenyl ring are oriented at a dihedral angle of 20.57 (13)°. The strong intramolecular O—H⋯O hydrogen bond partly ensures the coplanarity of the carboxyl group and the ring system. In crystal, the molecules are linked through C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds, enclosing R²2(14) ring motifs, into a three-dimensional architecture. π–π interactions between parallel five-membered and phenyl rings [centroid-to-centroid distances of 3.564 (3) and 3.591 (3) Å] further contribute to the cohesion of the crystal structure. The Hirshfeld surface analysis indicates that the most important contributions for the crystal packing are from H⋯H (35.5%), H⋯O/O⋯H (21.3%), C⋯C (14.1%) and H⋯C/C⋯H (12.8%) interactions

Russian Influence on the Formation of Georgian National Identity

    No full text
The research investigates how Georgian national identity evolved while Russian influence shaped this foundational development. Throughout history the Caucasus region has maintained its complex ethnic and religious diversity because numerous nations have lived there while multiple empires and states have conducted invasions and occupations. Attempts to seize the region by Ottomans, Russia and Iran affected the identity formation in the Caucasus. Georgian identity provides one of the clearest examples. In this study it will be claimed that since the 18th century the Russian influence was the determining factor in the formation of Georgian national identity. In this context, first it will be analyzed the concepts of identity and national identity. In this section concepts of culture and cultural nationalism will be also examined. In the second section of the study the main components of Georgian national identity will be analyzed. The third section starts with the Treaty of Georgievsk in 1783 which was a breaking point for the Georgian identity. In this section it will be evaluated the transformation of Georgian national identity from 1783 to the end of Russian Tsardom. In the final section of the article, the Menshevik administration of the short-lived independent Georgia will be examined. The Sovietization processes beginning with the Red Army’s capture of Tbilisi will be examined followed by an analysis of USSR influence on Georgia through its efforts to modify Georgian identity

Süni intellektə (AI) əsaslanan çatbotlar kimi innovativ alətlər müştəri xidmətlərinin səmərəliliyini artırmaqla yanaşı, istehlakçıların qavrayış və davranışlarına da əhəmiyyətli təsir göstərir. Çatbotlar 24/7 xidmət təmin etmək, sürətli cavab vermək və fərdiləşdirilmiş həllər təklif etmək qabiliyyəti ilə bankçılıq, pərakəndə satış və xidmət sektorlarında geniş tətbiq olunur. Azərbaycan kimi inkişaf etməkdə olan bazarlarda bu texnologiyaların tətbiqi sürətlə artsa da, onların istehlakçı davranışlarına təsiri hələ də kifayət qədər öyrənilməmişdir. Bu tədqiqat, çatbotların istifadə asanlığı, faydalılığı, sürəti və problem həll etmə qabiliyyəti kimi xüsusiyyətlərinin şirkət imici, istehlakçı güvəni və istehlakçı təcrübəsi vasitəsilə ağızdan-ağıza ünsiyyət və müştəri sədaqətinə təsirini araşdırmaqla bu boşluğu doldurmağı hədəfləyir

Faculty: Graduate School of Sciences, Arts and Technology Department: English Language and Literature Specialty: Translation - 060203 Supervisor: PhD in Philology Irina Gatemovna OrujovaThe thesis focuses on the examination of the metaphors in “A Clockwork Orange”, written by Anthony Burgess. The use of metaphorical expressions in the novel makes it more vivid and whimsical. The use of figurative language is significant in understanding the main, central idea of the plot and the message the writer conveys through the novel. Fictional works by outstanding authors, such as Anthony Burgess, are not only rich and expressive in language but also expose even more challenges to grasp the main idea and see the context through. A study of these linguistically challenged expressions enriches our understanding of the unique style of language and facilitates our understanding of the cognitive processes behind the text. These can be possible purely as a result of researchers' analyses and investigation of the creative heritage. In this thesis, we look at how metaphors infused with Nadsat vocabulary shape and formulate the hidden meanings and how this was achieved in the Azerbaijani translated version of the novel, by Zinyet Emir

School: Graduate School of Science, Arts and Technology Department: English Language and Literature Specialty: 60201 – Linguistics (English Language) Supervisor: PhD in Applied Linguistics Davud KuhiThe present study examines the complex interplay between language and identity by conducting a sociolinguistic study of the television series LOST (2004-2010). Specifically, in the first season this study examines the ways in which language not only discloses characters’ ethnic and social backgrounds and statuses, but also actively constructs and molds these identities, and thus interpersonal dynamics within the nascent island society. The main argument is that sociolinguistic markers, specifically language variation, code-switching, and language attitudes, play a major role in the development of the characters and the narrative of the show. The research also fills a gap in the existing matters, which has not applied sociolinguistic frameworks to ensemble-based television dramas, particularly those with multicultural casts in crisis. Although language variation, code-switching, and language attitudes have been explored in previous research on real-world communities, this dissertation explores the ways in which LOST, as a fictional narrative, reflects and refracts these real-world sociolinguistic phenomena. Using a qualitative approach, the study closely examines specific scenes of LOST Season 1 that contain language variation (accents, dialects, and register), code-switching, and explicit or implicit language attitudes. Transcriptions of dialogue are analyzed using a sociolinguistic framework to understand how language use relates to identity formation, power relations, and social hierarchies among the survivor group. Jack, Locke, and Kate are analyzed as case studies of how the speech of key characters in the series impacts their social positioning and the series as a whole. The analysis shows language in LOST to be a fluid mechanism of inclusion and exclusion, through which alliances are formed, leadership is claimed, and group membership is marked. Through the characters’ responses to and acceptance of linguistic variation in a high-stress situation, the series offers a nuanced and layered representation of the relationship between language, identity, and social power. The analysis shows that LOST does not use language as a neutral medium for the transmission of information, but rather as a performative force that constructs characters and social relations on the island. Finally, this study makes a unique contribution in that it shows the importance of using sociolinguistic methods to the study of media narratives. It demonstrates how a fictional television drama can be a microcosm of actual sociolinguistic processes, and it shows the centrality of language in identity construction and negotiation, especially in a multi-ethnic community in a time of crisis. These findings should remind us that in trying to understand media narratives we must also consider the sociolinguistic forces at work, and that while we may feel “lost in language,” it is also language that allows us to find ourselves and to relate to others

School: Graduate School of Science, Arts and Technology Department: English Language and Literature Specialty: 60201 – Linguistics (English language) Supervisor: Dr. Davoud KuhiAs novel-to-screen adaptations have been a growing trend for many decades, the comparison of the original story and its adaptations has always caused arguments. One of the significant alterations made during the adaptation is the narrative structure, in other words, how the events are rearranged or reorganized in this process. Especially novel A Man Called Ove (2013) by Fredrik Backman, which has a non-linear narrative structure with a huge amount of flashbacks shedding light on the events from the main character’s childhood till his death, sets a good example in this case. During the comparative analysis of the novel and two adapted movies, the plot is somewhat similar, but slight variations in flashbacks or additions and reductions of some characters and events in present-day segments make sense in this case. During the comparison of narrative structure analysis of the movie and the two adaptations, 29 similarities and 4 differences in the Swedish remake, while 22 similarities and 16 differences in the American remake have been calculated. Although the American remake has a lot of differences in comparison with the Swedish remake, both screen adaptations have been a hit during their run time in their respective country and all around the world
