Multiple modalities of teaching civic education awareness among students: a pragmatic approach-based case study
This study aims to highlight the positive impact of civic education on young mindsand addresses the challenges of liberal assurance and inefficacy in civic education aspracticed in many societies. It seeks to determine the necessity of promoting civiceducation at a higher level to comprehend the beliefs and perspectives of young indi-viduals. The research involved 25 undergraduate students from diverse academicbackgrounds. Data was gathered through semi-structured interviews using multi-stagesampling techniques. Thematic analysis was employed to interpret the data, providinga comprehensive understanding of the participants’ views on civic education. The ana-lysis revealed a spectrum of perspectives on civic education among the students. Asignificant positive relationship was identified between civic education awareness andits prevalence. The findings highlight that enhancing civic education awarenessrequires a collaborative effort involving not only the educational system but also thestate and communities. This case study contributes to the discourse on civic educationby demonstrating its critical role in shaping young minds. It underscores the collectiveresponsibility of educational institutions, state authorities, and communities in foster-ing civic awareness. The study’s pragmatic approach provides valuable insights forpolicymakers and educators seeking to enhance civic education and engagementamong youth
Transforming Education Through Blockchain: A Systematic Review of Applications, Projects, and Challenges
Blockchain technology has revolutionized several fields, including finance, healthcare, and supply chain management. The unique features of blockchain, notably decentralization, trustworthiness, and security, have attracted considerable attention from researchers investigating its application in education. Within the education sphere, blockchain applications protect academic records, ensure their trustworthiness, reduce fraud, and improve the value of educational assets. Blockchain projects in education play a crucial role in establishing a more dependable and transparent system for verifying academic credentials and achievements, benefiting students and institutions alike. Many previous studies have provided limited insight into the practical implementation of blockchain technology’s role in education. This systematic study follows Okoli and Schabram guidelines to analyze the 64 articles published between 2016 and 2023. This review encompasses the latest blockchain applications, projects, benefits, and adoption challenges in education. In this study, four main themes are discussed: 1) what are the potential applications of blockchain in education 2) What Blockchain projects are currently implemented in education 3) What benefits does blockchain offer to the education sector 4) What challenges are associated with the adoption of blockchain in education. Each theme includes a detailed discussion and prospective evidence-based findings in this study. This study draws the researcher’s attention to leveraging blockchain technology in future research and encourages educational institutions to develop blockchain applications, transforming from traditional systems to digital platforms. This study also identifies future research directions and acknowledges limitations
Modallıq xəbər diskursunda informasiya strukturunun markeri kimi
School: Graduate School of Science, Art and Technology
Department: English Language and Literature
Specialty: 60201 – Linguistics (English Language) Supervisor: Prof. Azad Yahya MammadovThis thesis explores the role of modality as a marker of information structure in English-language
news discourse, with particular emphasis on the interaction between modality and the Theme–
Rheme structure. The study investigates how modal expressions, such as modal verbs, adverbs,
and lexical markers-are used not only to convey stance (e.g., certainty, obligation, or ability) but
also to organize information flow within the clause. Drawing on a corpus of twenty news articles
from a range of journalistic domains, the analysis combines qualitative and quantitative methods
to examine how modality is distributed across information units, particularly in terms of new versus
given information.
Findings reveal that modality frequently operates within the Rheme-the clause element that
introduces new, unpredictable, or context-developing information. Modal verbs such as may, must,
can, and adverbs like possibly and likely are commonly used to qualify or evaluate the Rheme,
guiding the reader's interpretation and focusing attention on key assertions forward.
From a theoretical perspective, the study integrates insights from Systemic Functional Linguistics
(SFL) and Critical Dynamism to explain how modality and information structure co-construct
meaning. This interaction enhances textual coherence, emphasizes discourse goals, and supports
reader engagement.
Overall, the thesis demonstrates that modality is not only a marker of epistemic, deontic, or
dynamic stance, but also a functional tool in the organization of information. By shaping how new
information is introduced and evaluated, modality contributes to the rhetorical and communicative
strategies of contemporary news discourse
Washington Declaration: The last step toward peace
Soviet Armenia initiated the former conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan in the late 1980s, as Armenia claimed territory and occupied Azerbaijani land amid political turmoil. Ever since, for nearly three decades, talks have failed to produce any meaningful results, while U.N. Security Council resolutions repeatedly asked Armenia to withdraw.
In September 2020, following escalating provocations, fighting broke out on a grand scale once more. During the period of 44 days, effective counter-offensive actions were taken by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces and freed Shusha, along with more than 300 other settlements from occupation. Armenia, nonetheless, could not withstand these victories and, on Nov. 10, 2020, signed a Russia-mediated cease-fire
Analysis of the functional traits of some Quercus species under different ecological conditions in Azerbaijan
Given the ecological importance of forests in combating global warming, there has been increasing
attention in recent years to researching Quercus species for their ability to withstand drought.
The study presented here was conducted to assess the impacts of various water conditions on the
functional aspects and genetic diversity of oak species. We compared four Quercus species [Quercus
petraea ssp. iberica (Stev.), Q. macranthera ssp. macranthera (K.Koch) Menitsky, Q. castaneifolia
C.A.Mey., Q. robur ssp. pedunculiflora (K.Koch) Menitsky] in different sites of Azerbaijan. Thus,
five functional traits (relative water content (RWC), water content (WC), leaf mass per unit area
(LMA), specific leaf area (SLA), and succulence (S) related to drought tolerance were measured.
Then, cluster analysis based on these functional traits was conducted, and the Euclidean genetic
distance index was determined. As the temperature increases and the amount of precipitation
decreases, plants are exposed to drought stress, which is accompanied by a decrease in RWC,
WC, SLA and S. In contrast, an increase in LMA was observed. This response of the plant to
changing environmental conditions reflects the activation of a protective mechanism; the plant
is fighting for survival. The conducted analyses reveal significant genetic diversity among oak
genotypes, which is formed under the influence of ecological adaptation, geographical distribution,
and evolutionary processes
