    Parenting Practices and Emotional Regulation in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Mediated Moderation Model of Sibling Prosocial Behavior and Gender

    Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) frequently struggle with emotion regulation, which can be influenced by parental practices and the supportive role of siblings in encouraging emotional and social development. The study aimed to examine the relationship between parenting practices and emotional regulation of children with ASD and to explore the mediating role of the prosocial behavior of siblings between parenting practices and emotional regulation in children with ASD. Additionally, this study investigated the moderating role of sibling gender in the relationship between prosocial behavior and emotional regulation. A total of 600 parents/caregivers aged 25–40 years (M = 32.91, SD = 4.23) of children with ASD were selected from special education institutes in Lahore, Pakistan, using a non-probability, purposive sampling method. Although the majority of respondents were mothers (94.5%), the term parenting practices is used to reflect a family-level caregiving construct rather than exclusively maternal behavior. Data were interpreted through IBM SPSS Statistics 23 and PROCESS macros, revealing that authoritative parenting had a significant positive relation with emotional regulation in children with ASD. Results also indicated that the prosocial behavior of siblings partially mediated the relationship between authoritative parenting and emotional regulation in children with ASD. Furthermore, sibling gender significantly moderated the indirect effect, with female siblings showing stronger facilitation of emotional regulation through prosocial behaviors compared to male siblings

    Teachers’ perceptions of AI in supporting students’ learning within a globally diverse digital settings

    This study aims to investigate how teachers perceive AI tools in their efforts to enhance teaching practices and student learning in higher education. It examines the potential benefits and challenges of AI as seen by teachers in this setting regarding student learning. Using a quantitative correlational approach with surveys of 102 teachers in higher education institutions in four countries, Bangladesh, Malawi, Saudi Arabia, and Peru, the study found that teachers' demographics, AI familiarity, AI usage, and personalization of AI are key factors influencing AI use in higher education. The Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) served as the framework for analyzing the results, which largely show that teachers see AI as helpful in enhancing student learning. It also reveals that teachers view AI as beneficial for student learning, that familiarity with AI impacts its use, that students' use of AI is perceived as unethical, and that teachers use AI as a personal choice. The study reports a strong link between AI familiarity and perceived effectiveness (r = 0.75), meaning that more familiar individuals tend to see AI as more effective in education. It also finds a strong connection between age and perceived effectiveness (r = 0.60), and between teaching experience and perceived effectiveness (r = 0.55). This suggests that older teachers or those with more teaching experience or exposure to AI generally see AI as more effective. Successful AI integration in higher education demands teacher training, ethical frameworks, balanced pedagogical strategies, and institutional support. As AI and its integration in higher education continue to evolve, perceptions, tools, and pedagogical practices may shift, requiring ongoing longitudinal research to track changes

    Benzersiz doğası, zengin maddi ve manevi mirasıyla öne çıkan Karabağ bölgesi, aynı zamanda coğrafi açıdan jeopolitik bir üstünlüğe sahiptir. Karabağ, Türk (Osmanlı) topraklarıyla da sınır komşusu olmuş; bu özelliğiyle bölgede hâkim güç olmak isteyen büyük devletlerin, özellikle de Rusya’nın dikkatini çekmiştir. Rusya (Çarlık Rusyası), XVIII. yüzyıldan itibaren Azerbaycan’daki nüfuzunu artırarak hanlıkları egemenliği altına almış; XIX. yüzyılda ise uyguladığı iskân politikalarıyla Karabağ bölgesine Ermenilerin yerleştirilmesine zemin hazırlamıştır. Bu politika ve devamında Ermenilerin toprak iddiaları, kanlı çatışmalar ve savaşlarla sonuçlanmıştır. 1990–1994 yılları arasında yaşanan Birinci Karabağ Savaşı’nda Ermenistan, Azerbaycan topraklarının yaklaşık yüzde 20’sini işgal etmiş ve bir milyondan fazla insanı yurtlarından göçe zorlamıştır. 2020 yılında başlayan ve 44 gün süren İkinci Karabağ Savaşı’nda ise Azerbaycan işgal altındaki topraklarını kurtarmış; taraflar arasında 10 Kasım tarihinde ateşkes anlaşması imzalanmıştır. Aradan beş yıldan fazla zaman geçmesine rağmen, Ermenistan ile Azerbaycan arasında kalıcı barış henüz sağlanamamıştır. Bu durum, iki ülke arasında sınırların hâlâ belirlenmediğini ve sorunun tam anlamıyla çözüme kavuşmadığını göstermektedir. Bu süreçte Azerbaycan’da Karabağ Savaşı’nı konu alan çok sayıda eser yayımlanmış; bu çalışmalarda çatışma ve çözüm yolları ele alınmıştır. Azerbaycan’ın tanınmış bilim ve kültür insanlarından, Hazar Üniversitesi’nin kurucu rektörü Hamlet İsaxanlı’nın 2022 yılında yayımlanan Benim Karabağ’ım veya Karabağ Düğümü adlı kitabı da Karabağ Savaşı’na adanmış eserlerden biridir. Eser, Karabağ meselesini geniş kapsamlı tarihsel araştırmalara dayalı olarak ele almasıyla öne çıkmaktadır. Yazar, kişisel anılarını da metne dâhil ederek eserin okunabilirliğini artırmıştır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Benim Karabağ’ım veya Karabağ Düğümü adlı eseri kapsamlı biçimde analiz ederek yazarın çatışmanın çözümüne ilişkin görüşlerini ortaya koymak ve eserin önemini bilimsel bir çerçevede değerlendirmektir

    Reframing Code-Switching in Anglo-French Humour: A Genre-Based Comparative Study

    Code-switching plays a central role in bilingual humour, generating comedic effects through language alternation. Anglo-French bilingual humour remains an under-researched field compared to other language pairs that have gained worldwide recognition. This research investigates how code-switching functions differ across three genres of Anglo-French bilingual humour: a comedy film, a stand-up performance, and a collection of bilingual jokes. A two-phase analytical approach was employed to explore how genre-specific conventions shape the use and purpose of code-switching. Each instance of code-switching was first assigned a single primary communicative function. Then, the frequency and distribution of these functions across the three genres were determined. The findings showed that code-switching in the comedy film appeared most frequently for expressive purposes along with referential and directive uses. The stand-up performance displayed a more balanced distribution with a notably high percentage of metalinguistic and phatic functions compared to the film. In contrast, the jokes overwhelmingly featured the poetic function of code-switching. These results demonstrate that communicative functions of code-switching are shaped by genre-specific goals and constraints. The study argues that functional models of code-switching, while useful for categorisation, should be extended to include genre as a predictive and explanatory component

    The International Work Addiction Scale (IWAS): A screening tool for clinical and organizational applications validated in 85 cultures from six continents

    Background and aims: Despite the last decade’s significant development in the scientific study of work addiction/workaholism, this area of research is still facing a fundamental challenge, namely the need for a valid and reliable measurement tool that shows cross-cultural invariance and, as such, allows for worldwide studies on this phenomenon. Methods: An initial 16-item questionnaire, developed within an addiction framework, was administered alongside job stress, job satisfaction, and self-esteem measures in a total sample of 31,352 employees from six continents and 85 cultures (63.5% females, mean age of 39.24 years). Results: Based on theoretical premises and psychometric testing, the International Work Addiction Scale (IWAS) was developed as a short measure representing essential features of work addiction. The seven-item version (IWAS-7), covering all seven components of work addiction, showed partial scalar invariance across 81 cultures, while the five-item version (IWAS-5) showed it across all 85 cultures. Higher levels of work addiction on both versions were associated with higher job stress, lower job satisfaction, and lower self-esteem across cultures. The optimal cut-offs for the IWAS-7 (24 points) and IWAS-5 (18 points) were established with an overall accuracy of 96% for both versions. Discussion and conclusions: The IWAS is a valid, reliable, and short screening scale that can be used in different cultures and languages, providing comparative and generalizable results. The scale can be used globally in clinical and organizational settings, with the IWAS-5 being recommended for most practical and clinical situations. This is the first study to provide data supporting the hypothesis that work addiction is a universal phenomenon worldwide
