Effects of improvement of performance on implicit motive

    No full text

A study of Oskar Grohe’s Juli–Nacht : Artistic idea and composition of Hugo Wolf

Dental prostheses are usually made by a casting process. Most currently available dental alloys are therefore developed to facilitate dental casting. Cutting and grinding of dental materials have been regarded as finishing processes rather than forming methods. Current CAD/CAM technology is a considerable advancement over conventional dental casting, and machining has become one of the important forming methods. However, few dental alloys have been developed for good machinability (ease of cutting or grinding). Titanium is widely known as an excellent biomaterial because of its superior biocompatibility and corrosion resistance, but it remains one of the most difficult dental materials to process. Some dental applications demand materials with high strength as well as improved machinability. To this end, in this study, experimental titanium alloys were developed for dental CAD/CAM systems. The alloying elements chosen were copper, silver, and gold from β-eutectoid elements and zirconium, niobium, and hafnium from β-isomorphous elements. Among the experimental binary titanium alloys tested, certain Ti-Ag alloys were found to provide both better machinability and higher strength compared to unalloyed titanium. The improved machinability could be attributed to the finely dispersed brittle second phase that reduces elongation. The Ti-Ag alloys showed both corrosion resistance comparable to unalloyed titanium and anti-biofilm characteristics with no bactericidal activity. The spontaneous formation of calcium phosphate on the alloys in simulated body fluid was also confirmed. Ti-Ag alloys are thus good candidates for use as machinable dental biomaterials

Alveolar ridge augmentation using alveolar bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells

    No full text
This review shows a summary of our previous studies concerning how to augment alveolar bone ridge by minimum intervention using autologous alveolar bone derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) and scaffolds. We successfully collected MSC from alveolar bone marrow using newly developed puncture needle, and expanded them in vitro. We have developed serum free culture medium and found several new initial osteogenic markers and new resistance factors for external stimuli on MSC. Furthermore, we found several factor controlling MSC migration and osteogenic differentiation. We combined MSC with calcium phosphate scaffold and transplanted them into canine edentulous model and successfully observed osseointegration between augmented bone and implant. We are going to start alveolar bone augmentation treatment using alveolar bone marrow MSC/scaffold utilizing above mentioned techniques in the near future

On the ethics in the Bhagavad-Gt : focusing on the examples of "sanysa" and "tyga"

    No full text
Three ethical principles are found in the Mahbhrata, an epic Sanskrit poem from India. The first is the act of affirmation and the second is the act of denial. The third principle retains the characteristics of the preceding two in that the act of denial is kept in mind when executing an act. The third principle is found in the Bhagavad-Gt, the 6th volume of the Mahbhrata. In this paper, examples of the usage of the words "sanysa" (renunciation) and "tyga" (abandonment) which represent the spirit of the act of denial were investigated by using an index and collecting them from the text. In conducting this study, those examples were classified by cross-referencing the main viewpoints which distinguish those ethical principles to the contents of the act, howto act, and the state reached by the act. Renunciation and abandonment are related to how one acts. Concerning how to act, the objective and the way of renunciation and abandonment are important. The objects of renunciation are "karman" (act) and "sakalpa" (will) and the objects of abandonment are "saga" (adherence), "karma-phala" (result of the act), "kma" (desire), "krodha" (anger), "lobha" (covetousness), and others. These objects are the effects resulting from the three guas (sattva, tamas, and in particular, rajas) that constitute the prakti, the origin of all material things in the universe. The act also results from the guas of prakti. Therefore, the way of renunciation and abandonment of the effects from these guas is called the way of Yoga. It is reasoned that the state attained by takingactioncan be explained as, "The act is not done even if one does the act." This kind of mental detachment enables one to avoid karma even while continuing to physically act. This is because the state is separate from the effect of guas
