    High-resolution spatio-temporal modelling of precipitation and mortality in Austria

    This thesis focuses on the statistical modelling of large environmental and societal data from Austria, with a particular emphasis on precipitation and mortality dynamics. To explain these real-world phenomena, we use generalised linear mixed models that utilise several regressors and incorporate specific distributional assumptions about the data. A key component of our methodology is the use of Gaussian Markov random fields, which are a popular choice for specifying the random effects, especially in the presence of spatial and temporal dependencies. This approach is not only effective for modelling these dependencies but is also computationally efficient during the subsequent inference process. We apply this approach to analyse real-world datasets of mortality rates and of precipitation characteristics in Austria, respectively. In the first part, we investigate how temperature- and humidity-related meteorological data affect mortality rates in Austria. We establish a high-resolution mortality model at the district-level on a weekly basis, refining the model with covariates of different spatio-temporal resolutions. In addition, our model takes account of demographic heterogeneity by considering the impact on gender and four different age groups. This detailed approach provides a valuable tool for assessing regional mortality risk, enabling policymakers to implement targeted interventions where a high risk is identified. In the second part, we analyse, on a 2x2 km grid, the spatio-temporal evolution of precipitation patterns across Austria by defining three key characteristics from the data. These are monthly mean precipitation sums, monthly maximum daily precipitation sums and monthly maximum length of a dry spell. Our model fitting is refined by incorporating regressors that specifically account for Austria's complex topography. This approach allows us to go beyond standard climate reports, providing new insights into the regional and seasonal dynamics of precipitation processes and how the defined characteristics changed from 1961-1990 to 1991-2020.Author Dipl.-Ing.     Untersuchung des Einflusses einer PPI-Therapie auf das Gewicht bei Patient*innen mit exokriner Pankreasinsuffizienz unter Substitution von Pankreasenzymen - eine retrospektive Studie mit deskriptiver Zielsetzung

    Hintergrund: In einem relevanten Anteil von Patient*innen mit exokriner Pankreasinsuffizienz (EPI) persistieren Symptome trotz adäquater Pankreasenzymersatztherapie (PERT). In solchen Fällen wird die zusätzliche Gabe von Protonenpumpenhemmern (PPI) empfohlen. Diese Empfehlung basiert auf wenigen, teils widersprüchlichen Studien. Ziel: Untersuchung gewichtsbezogener Endpunkte bei EPI-Patientinnen unter PERT mit und ohne PPI. Hauptzielparameter: absolute Gewichtsänderung nach einem Jahr (Δ Gewicht) und die durchschnittliche tägliche Gewichtsänderung über ein Jahr (Ø Δ Gewicht). Nebenzielparameter: Gewicht und BMI nach einem Jahr sowie die mittlere BMI-Änderung (Δ BMI). Design: Monozentrische retrospektive Kohortenstudie mit 98 Patient*innen (32 Frauen, 66 Männer; Alter 56 ± 15 Jahre) unter PERT (125.000 ± 45.300 Lipase-Einheiten/Tag). Kohorte 1 ohne PPI (n=51), Kohorte 2 mit PPI (n=47; 48 ± 16 mg Pantoprazol/Tag). Das Gewicht zum 1-Jahres-Zeitpunkt wurde mittels Inter- und Extrapolation bestimmt. Ø Δ Gewicht wurde anhand der AUC berechnet. Es wurden multiple lineare Regressionsanalysen zur Untersuchung von Einflussfaktoren (Kohortenzugehörigkeit, Alter, Geschlecht, BMI zu Baseline, Insulintherapie, Ätiologie) auf Δ Gewicht und Ø Δ Gewicht durchgeführt. Ergebnisse: Es gab keine signifikanten Unterschiede zwischen den Kohorten in den Haupt- oder Nebenzielparametern. Es zeigte sich ein signifikant positiver Zusammenhang zwischen einem niedrigeren BMI zu Baseline und Δ Gewicht (p=0,001) bzw. Ø Δ Gewicht (p<0,001). Post-hoc zeigte sich ein signifikanter positiver Zusammenhang zwischen mittlerer PPI-Dosierung und Δ Gewicht (p = 0,014). Alle Modelle verloren in Sensitivitätsanalysen unter Ausschluss von Ausreißern ihre Signifikanz. Zusammenfassung: In dieser Studie konnte kein signifikanter Einfluss einer zusätzlichen PPI-Einnahme auf gewichtsbezogene Endpunkte bei EPI-Patient*innen unter PERT beobachtet werden.Background: In a relevant proportion of patients with exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI), symptoms persist despite adequate pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy (PERT). In such cases, the additional administration of proton pump inhibitors (PPI) is recommended. This recommendation is based on few, partly conflicting studies. Aims: Comparison of weight-related endpoints in patients with EPI receiving PERT with and without additional PPI therapy. Primary endpoints: absolute weight change after one year (Δ weight) and mean daily weight change over one year (Ø Δ weight). Secondary endpoints: body weight after one year, BMI after one year, and mean change in BMI after one year (Δ BMI). Design: Single-center, retrospective cohort study including 98 patients (32 female, 66 male; age 56 ± 15 years) on PERT (125,000 ± 45,300 lipase units/day). Cohort 1 without PPI (n=51), cohort 2 with PPI (n=47; 48 ± 16 mg pantoprazole/day). Body weight at the 1-year time point was determined by inter- and extrapolation. Ø Δ weight was calculated using the AUC. Multiple linear regression analyses were performed to assess the impact of cohort allocation, age, sex, baseline BMI, insulin therapy, and etiology on Δ weight and Ø Δ weight. Results: There were no significant differences between cohorts in primary or secondary endpoints. A significantly positive association was found between lower baseline BMI and Δ weight (p=0.001) as well as Ø Δ weight (p<0.001). Post hoc, a significant positive association between mean PPI dosage and Δ weight was observed (p=0.014). All models lost significance in sensitivity analyses excluding outliers.     The article aims to identify the current and anticipated use of AI-driven manufacturing technologies in Slovak manufacturing companies. Building on a 2017 study by Závadský& Závadská, the research revisits and expands the original sample to 115 companies. The study examines the adoption and future expectations of 10 selected AI technologies through a structured survey of quality and production managers. Key findings show that 3D Printing, Predictive Maintenance Systems, Generative Design, and Supply Chain Optimization Systems are the most widely used. Digital Twins, Robotic Process Automation, and Collaborative Robots are the most anticipated. Predictive Maintenance, though widely used, has limited future growth potential. The data reveal the current state and trajectory of AI integration in manufacturing. Statistical tests confirm the sample’s representativeness across industries. These partial results contribute to understanding AI's practical implementation and expected evolution in industrial settings

    EcoSpell is an innovative predictive maintenance (PdM) framework designed by the authors for the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), focusing on sustainability. The main objective of EcoSpell is to enhance the longevity of industrial equipment while reducing energy consumption and minimizing environmental impact. This paper introduces EcoSpell as a comprehensive solution that integrates real-time data acquisition, anomaly detection, and a decision engine powered by machine learning (ML) models. A simulation using real industrial vibration data evaluates the framework’s ability to improve equipment reliability, energy efficiency, and sustainability. Key performance indicators (KPIs) such as Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), energy savings, and false positive rates are analyzed to assess the framework’s effectiveness. The results highlight EcoSpell’s potential for integration into smart manufacturing environments, offering a green solution to traditional predictive maintenance strategies while improving operational outcomes and supporting eco-friendly manufacturing practices

Employing an analytical approach, it identifies 10 positive effects of AI in social media such as: enhanced content personalization, efficient fake news detection, improved user engagement, automated content moderation, advanced trend analysis, targeted advertising efficiency, real-time crisis management,increased accessibility, improved community building, enhanced data-driven insights and 10 negative effects, such as: amplification of bias, privacy concerns, creation of echo chambers, reduced transparency, user manipulation, risk of automation errors, increased polarization, algorithmic accountability issues, ethical dilemmas in moderation, and economic impacts on content creators. By synthesizing current scholarly literature, this study underscores the urgency of balanced governance to mitigate adverse effects while promoting responsible AI utilization in social media
