IDIMT-2025 : ICT in Business : AI Everywhere? Glory and Disgrace of AI : 33rd Interdisciplinary Information Management Talks Sept. 3–5, 2025 Hradec Králové, Czech Republic / von Petr, Doucek / GAI-LENS: Legal and ethical risk assessment in generative AI social content using advanced AI methods

    No full text
This paper presents the development of GAI-LENS (Generative AI Legal and Ethical Neural System), an AI-based system for identifying and assessing legal and ethical risks in generative content. With the expansion of generative AI, particularly in social media environments, legal and ethical challenges are increasing. Our methodology employs Transformer architecture with dedicated adaptation layers for textual and visual analysis of synthetic data, enabling identification of issues related to intellectual property, privacy, factual accuracy, and biases. The model was trained on a heterogeneous synthetic dataset of 14,500 tagged examples. Results indicate high performance, with 87.3% accuracy in identifying legal risks and 83.5% for ethical issues. The model shows special capabilities in contextual analysis and identification of sophisticated factual falsehoods. Compared to previous models, GAI-LENS demonstrates a 23% improvement in identifying privacy risks and an 18% improvement for intellectual property infringements. Our primary contribution is a comprehensive risk assessment framework that includes measurable evaluation criteria, automatic identification algorithms, and an evidence-based decision-making model. This research bridges the gap between legal theory and technological implementation by providing operational tools that could potentially address challenges in environments like social media, where content velocity and reach create unique challenges for maintaining ethical and legal standards

Untersuchung induktiver Verzerrungen in daten- und labeleffizientem Deep Representation Learning

    No full text
Deep learning has significantly advanced machine learning in key domains such as computer vision and natural language processing, enabled by its ability to transform raw input data into meaningful, abstract representations. This shift—–from hand- crafted feature extraction to deep representation learning—–has allowed models to scale more effectively with increasing amounts of training data. During this transition, research was constrained by limited computational resources and therefore focused on parameter-efficient, task-specific solutions. However, the rapid growth in computational power propelled a new direction: leveraging consistent performance gains from model scaling and embracing more flexible architectures, such as the Transformer, which have unified representation learning approaches across domains. Despite these advances, a persistent challenge remains: scaling laws demand an exponential increase in training data—–a trend unlikely to be matched by the availability of high-quality datasets. Furthermore, models with fewer inductive biases, while offering greater scaling potential, also require more data to learn robust representations. This imbalance underscores the urgent need for data- and label-efficient learning methods. This dissertation addresses this challenge by investigating approaches to improve the efficiency of deep representation learning. Specifically, it explores training paradigms such as masked language modeling, contrastive learning, multimodal learning, and masked image modeling, with a focus on how these methods utilize carefully designed pretext tasks and inductive biases to leverage unlabeled data effectively. Ultimately, this research aims to deepen our understanding of what constitutes effective representations and how to learn them robustly in data- and label-scarce environments–—relative to the growing capacity of modern models.Author DI Johannes LehnerAbweichender Titel laut Übersetzung der Verfasserin/des VerfassersDissertation Johannes Kepler Universität Linz 202

The rapid development of Large Language Models (LLMs) has triggered a surge in global patenting activity, reflecting both technological innovation and strategic positioning across industries and nations. This study investigates the landscape of LLM-related patents by analyzing a dataset of 32,685 patent documents filed across multiple jurisdictions. Using a structured Natural Language Processing (NLP) pipeline combined with heuristic clustering, key technological directions were extracted from patent abstracts, and patents were grouped into thematic clusters such as Fine-Tuning Techniques, Prompt Engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), Safety and Bias Mitigation, and Multimodal Model Development. The findings provide a structured view of emerging trends, dominant innovation pathways, and the evolving strategic interests shaping the future of large language models. This cluster-based analysis offers valuable insights for researchers, policymakers, and industry stakeholders aiming to navigate and influence the evolving landscape of LLM technologie

Scientists’ experiences with failure and their emotional coping strategies

    No full text
Failure is an inescapable part of the scientific field, yet its impact on the mental state and career development of scientists remains under-researched. In an attempt to bridge this, this study seeks to understand the experiences of scientists in the medical faculty at Linz in relation to failure and their coping strategies at an emotional and professional level. The phenomenological study was carried out using a qualitative approach and in-depth interviews to understand how scientists perceive failure in research. It investigates how failure arises in the dimensions of uniqueness, do-ability, and resonance —three key areas where failure can occur as a form of disappointed expectations (Otto et al., 2025) and examines emotional responses, as well as the coping mechanisms scientists employ in relation to these dimensions. Together, these dimensions and the associated emotional responses not only impact individual motivation and resilience but also contribute importantly to long-term career development. By shedding light on how scientists manage and learn through failure, this work deepens our understanding of resilience in academic inquiry and holds important implications for enhancing the support for scientists working in high-stress environments.Author Sewmi M.A. Delana Mudiyanselage, BScMasterarbeit Johannes Kepler Universität Linz 202

Background: Uremic pruritus is one of the most common and burdensome symptoms in patients with endstage renal disease. Despite its high prevalence, the exact pathophysiology remains unclear, and effective treatment options are limited. Chronic itching significantly impairs quality of life and is often underestimated or insufficiently addressed in clinical practice. Methods: The aim of this master’s thesis was to assess the disease burden of uremic pruritus among chronic hemodialysis patients at Ordensklinikum Linz Elisabethinen. The theoretical part of the thesis provides a comprehensive overview of the symptom’s pathogenesis, clinical presentation, diagnostics, and therapeutic approaches. In the empirical part, a monocentric questionnairebased study was conducted from June 1 to June 30, 2024. A total of 103 patients participated. Two validated questionnaire tools were used to assess prevalence, intensity, and impact on quality of life. Additional baseline clinical parameters were extracted from electronic patient records. Results: A significant proportion of participants reported chronic pruritus, which negatively affected sleep, mood, and daily functioning. The analysis revealed notable differences in quality of life between patients with and without pruritus, as well as among different levels of pruritus intensity. Conclusion: The findings highlight the considerable burden of uremic pruritus and emphasize the need for structured screening and increased clinical awareness. Early and accurate diagnosis is essential to improve patient quality of life and guide more effective therapeutic interventions.Eingereicht von Claudia AuingerAngefertigt am Ordensklinikum Linz Elisabethinen Interne 3 - NephrologieMasterarbeit Johannes Kepler Universität Linz 202

Extending Volumetric Molecule and Material Generation with Bonds

    No full text
Molecules and materials play a significant role in the daily life, with new ones constantly being sought to address challenges in chemistry and medicine. While molecular generation is concerned with identifying novel 3D structures from atoms and bonds, material generation focuses on finding a suitable repeating 3D arrangement of atoms. In both cases, the space of possible structures is too large for traditional methods to be effective, resulting in a variety of artificial intelligence approaches being designed for these tasks. Recent success in the field of unconditional molecule generation involved including bonds in the generation process rather than exclusively predicting atom positions and types, leading to better overall results. Based on a promising discrete approach representing molecules by their atoms in a volumetric voxel grid, this work is concerned with the extension of this method by representing chemical bonds in the same space as the atoms and studies the effect on generated molecules. Evaluation results using widely adopted metrics demonstrate near-perfect performance in terms of stability and validity, as well as competitive scores for various properties when trained with implicit hydrogen representations. These were achieved on a dataset comprising small molecules as well as on one with larger drug-like ones. To further assess the effect of joint atom-bond prediction, the method is adapted for material generation, representing atoms, bonds, and the periodic structure parameters in the voxel grid. When evaluated using standard metrics, the trained methods exhibited high validity and recall coverage. However, the effects of including bonds on molecules could not be replicated for materials. This thesis is thus concerned with studying the effect of including bonds in discrete molecule and material generation, proposing methods to represent and extract bonds from voxel grid representations and demonstrates considerable improvements in joint atom-bond molecule generation. Author Patrick BinderMasterarbeit Johannes Kepler Universität Linz 202
