Challenges and responses in multicultural teams to AI adoption and usage

    No full text
As artificial intelligence (AI) and technology become more and more prominent within organisational environments, global multicultural teams (MCTs) also get under its influence. Understanding AI’s impact on collaboration, decision-making, and communication is crucial for the MCTs’ efficiency and smooth operational workflow. This study explores the challenges that arise during AI adoption and exploitation in MCTs, focusing on trust, usability, overreliance, and leadership influence. In addition, the master’s thesis considers strategic ways in which AI and technology can be successfully implemented within MCTs. The research employs a qualitative approach, analysing three focus groups with participants from diverse cultural backgrounds. The results of the research indicate that while AI reduces language barriers and enhances workflow efficiency in diverse teams, it also raises concerns due to perceived biases and usability challenges. Further, the study demonstrates that multicultural team members turn to selective verification behaviours, highlighting the need for human oversight in AI-driven decisions. Leadership, ethical prompting and structured AI integration emerged as critical factors for successful AI and technology adoption. The study contributes to the discourse on AI in international business environments, providing insights for organisations aiming to balance technological innovation with human expertise and decision-making.Author Kseniia MavlihanovaMasterarbeit Johannes Kepler Universität Linz 202

Deep learning approaches for removing compact sources in Herschel observations

    No full text
Deep learning has been increasingly used in astrophysics and has emerged as a potential tool for studying the interstellar medium (ISM) and star formation. This thesis investigated deep learning‐based approaches to remove compact source signals from far‐infrared photometric observations, enabling more accurate analysis of the underlying diffuse background structures. Using data from the \textit{Herschel} Space Observatory, a custom simulation framework was developed in which compact sources with controlled flux densities were injected into real observational backgrounds. Additionally, a dynamic signal-to-noise ratio (SNR)-based masking system was implemented. Three different approaches were explored: PConv, a partial convolution-based inpainting model; Pix2Pix, a conditional generative adversarial network (cGAN); and Palette, a diffusion-based model. Each method was thoroughly evaluated through quantitative metrics — including aperture photometry error analysis and power spectrum comparisons — and qualitative visual assessments. The results revealed that the diffusion‐based model achieved superior reconstruction quality by both preserving the noise characteristics of the observations and the spatial structures of extended emissions. However, its high computational cost represents an important consideration when processing large datasets, especially in scenarios where fast execution is preferred. In contrast, the PConv-based approach offers a more efficient alternative, providing slightly lower accuracy than the diffusion-based model while delivering faster inference than Palette and producing fewer artifacts than the cGAN-based model. The findings underscored the critical impact of architectural choices, such as the use of partial convolutions and the appropriate step size of the denoising diffusion process, in balancing accuracy and computational efficiency for the compact source removal task. This work provided a practical framework for improving the analysis of far‐infrared astronomical observations, potentially enabling more reliable contamination‐free imaging that supports subsequent astrophysical studies.submitted by Máté MadarászMasterarbeit Johannes Kepler Universität Linz 202

Successful onboarding: measures to reduce early employee turnover

    No full text
At a time when the shortage of skilled workers is a key challenge, and companies are increasingly having to compete for talent in the market, it is crucial to take measures to attract and retain them in the long term. In view of the growing dynamism in the labor market, in which constant job changes have become the norm, it is becoming increasingly essential to take action against fluctuation at an early stage. In order to reduce early turnover and enable talented individuals to build a bond with the company at an early stage, this master's thesis addresses the research question, "What measures do companies take to promote the social integration and sense of belonging of new employees in order to reduce early turnover?". To answer this research question, the author interviewed ten HR experts from various industries and company sizes about their onboarding processes to generate detailed insights into existing onboarding practices. The research results show that a successfully designed onboarding process should meet the following criteria: active communication and appreciation in the pre-boarding phase, the organization of welcome and orientation events, and regular feedback sessions. A structured buddy system and the active involvement of managers in the onboarding process are significant for implementing a successful onboarding process. This master's thesis offers practical recommendations for optimizing onboarding processes. It shows that using effective onboarding measures reduces early fluctuation and significantly increases employee performance, satisfaction, and long-term loyalty.Author Nina BauerMasterarbeit Johannes Kepler Universität Linz 2025Arbeit auf den öffentlichen PCs in den Bibliotheken der JKU+Medizin abrufba

Automating the Establishment of Trace Links between UML Class Diagrams and Java Code by Model-based Heuristics

    No full text
Traceability is a critical aspect of software development, especially in safety-critical systems, yet it remains underutilized in many projects. This work addresses the challenge of automating fine-grained trace recovery between UML class diagrams and Java code through the introduction of the TraceFinderService, a system designed to enhance the Model-and-Code Consistency Checking (MCCC) of DesignSpace. By employing model-based heuristics, the TraceFinderService establishes fine-grained trace links that connect design artifacts to their corresponding code elements. Our research investigates three primary questions: the feasibility of automating trace recovery within the DesignSpace environment and the potential reduction of manual effort in MCCC processes. Through a series of experiments, we evaluate the performance of our heuristics and discuss the results, which show that the system achieves precision rates between 38.6% and 54.5% and recall rates from 56.0% to 78.0%. While these results indicate that our approach falls short compared to existing state-of-the-art techniques, these findings highlight opportunities for enhancing the effectiveness of model-based heuristics in future work.Rückverfolgbarkeit ist ein kritischer Aspekt der Softwareentwicklung, insbesondere in sicherheitskritischen Systemen, wird jedoch in vielen Projekten nicht ausreichend genutzt.

    No full text
Excessive meat consumption leads to numerous negative impacts on the environment, human health and animal welfare. Therefore, it is essential to develop effective intervention strategies to reduce meat consumption. Emotions serve as the primary motivational system of humans and have a significant influence on behavior. This study thus focuses on examining the role of emotions in the influence of positive, neutral and negative animal images on meat consumption. Using an experimental design, the following hypotheses are analyzed: Negative animal images on meat products reduce the selection of meat products compared to products without a label, with emotions such as empathy, guilt and disgust mediating the relationship between the label and meat selection (H1). Animal images (negative, neutral or positive) on meat products reduce the selection of meat products compared to products without labels, with the emotion of empathy mediating the relationship between the label and meat selection (H2). Negative animal images on meat products elicit more empathy, guilt and disgust than positive and neutral animal images (H3). The sample consists of 1,543 participants and is representative of the Austrian population. Mediation analyses revealed that both negative as well as neutral and positive animal labels reduce meat choice. Empathy mediates the effect between negative versus no animal labels and meat selection. Empathy also mediates the effect between products with an animal label compared to products without and meat selection. Furthermore, negative animal images elicit more guilt and disgust than positive and neutral animal images. Furthermore, it was exploratively found that a higher current level of meat consumption is associated with lower feelings of empathy towards farm animals used for meat production. These findings expand the research on intervention methods by providing key psychological insights. The growing body of empirical literature may thus contribute to the implementation of this method in practice.eingereicht von Lena BirmingstorferMasterarbeit Johannes Kepler Universität Linz 2025Arbeit auf den öffentlichen PCs in den Bibliotheken der JKU+Medizin abrufba

Bindungsgeleitete Interventionsmaßnahmen im System der Heilstättenschule

    No full text
