    Konzeptstudie für ein kollimatorfreies Szintigraphieverfahren zur Untersuchung der Schilddrüse

    Diese Masterarbeit befasst sich mit der Konzeptionierung eines kollimatorfreien Szintigraphieverfahrens zur Untersuchung der Schilddrüse. Herkömmliche Szintigraphieverfahren verwenden mechanische Kollimatoren zur Richtungsselektion der Gammastrahlung, was mit erheblichen Effizienzverlusten einhergeht. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, ein alternatives Verfahren zu erforschen, das auf mathematischer Rekonstruktion basiert und ohne Kollimatoren auskommt. Hierfür wurde ein physikalisch-mathematisches Modell entwickelt, das die Strahlungsausbreitung, Absorption und Detektion berücksichtigt. Zur Verbesserung der Lösungsfindung wurden Hindernisse verwendet, welche die Speicherfolie teilweise bedecken und Schatten werfen. Anhand von Simulationen werden verschiedene Anordnungen von Speicherfolien und Hindernissen untersucht, um eine möglichst präzise Rekonstruktion der Aktivitätsverteilung zu ermöglichen. Die Optimierung der Anordnungen ist jedoch noch nicht abgeschlossen. Zusätzlich wird ein experimenteller Aufbau mit einer Punktquelle und einem Röntgenfilm getestet, um die Simulationsergebnisse zu validieren. Die Arbeit legt damit eine erste Grundlage für die Weiterentwicklung kollimatorfreier Szintigraphieverfahren, die potenziell zu einer verbesserten Bildqualität und einer Reduktion der Strahlenbelastung führen könnte.This master's thesis addresses the conceptual design of a collimator-free scintigraphy technique for examining the thyroid gland. Conventional scintigraphy techniques use mechanical collimators to select the direction of gamma radiation, which results in significant efficiency losses. The aim of this work is to explore an alternative technique based on mathematical reconstruction that does not require collimators. For this purpose, a physical-mathematical model was developed that takes radiation propagation, absorption, and detection into account. To improve the solution, obstacles were used that partially cover the imaging plate and cast shadows. Simulations are being used to investigate various arrangements of imaging plates and obstacles to enable the most precise reconstruction of the activity distribution. However, the optimization of the arrangements is not yet complete. In addition, an experimental setup with a point source and X-ray film is being tested to validate the simulation results.     What Do Deep Networks Like to Hear?

    Advances in explainable artificial intelligence techniques shine light on how the inner workings of neural networks function. The gained insights also help to further architectural designs and mitigate flaws or vulnerabilities. Past works employed autoencoders to investigate the preferences of image and sentence classification networks at their input level. In this thesis, the idea is extended to environmental sound classification. To this end, audio waveforms are passed through a 1D convolutional autoencoder and the resulting reconstructions are passed to the classifier networks to make predictions. The prediction error is then backpropagated to only fine-tune the weights of the autoencoder. The weights of the classification network stay fixed. For this thesis, three architectures are considered: The normal MobileNet-V3, a changed variant of the MobileNet-V3 architecture that introduces dynamic attention layers called Dynamic MobileNet and the vision transformer PaSST. These models were selected due to their strong performance in environmental sound classification and architectural differences. All experiments are conducted on the ESC-50 dataset which consists of five second environmental sound audio samples categorized into 50 classes. Investigations of the learned reconstruction transformations show differences in how the three classification architectures perceive their inputs. Especially Dynamic MobileNet differs the most from the other two. Ablation studies are conducted to investigate which alterations to the MobileNet architecture caused these changes in behavior.     Founder-led companies in their startup phase : a dual perspective on leadership and talent acquisition in Upper Austria

    The aim of this master thesis is to advance the understanding of leadership and recruiting in founder-led startups in the region of Upper Austria, while also providing insights into how founding teams are structured. Therefore, ten qualitative semi-structured interviews with founders were conducted and the collected data was analyzed by using Mayring´s approach to qualitative content analysis (Mayring, 2015). The findings from the interviews were then evaluated and linked to relevant literature. In this context, the analysis includes two main perspectives and focuses on both leadership practices and the acquisition of new talent, which broadens the scope of this study. The results indicate that founders often pursue approaches of transformational leadership and motivate members with a clear and inspiring vision to align them with common goals. In startups, adapting leadership behavior to the individual needs of the team is of great relevance. In addition, the founders recognize the benefits when they delegate tasks and responsibilities but also note that this process comes with challenges. The founding teams of the analyzed startups usually consist of one to three members. The formation of these teams is mainly based on personal or professional networks, and it becomes clear that founders place a high value on complementary skills. In terms of talent acquisition, the findings show that adaptability and cultural fit are of significant relevance for potential new employees. Also, in most cases, the first employee is hired within six to seven months after founding the company, and these early hires often serve as cultural ambassadors who embody the values of the organization internally and externally. Moreover, recruitment is of strategic importance in the early stages and lays the foundation for future growth. In many founder-led companies, the talent acquisition process is unstructured and depends heavily on the founders' informal networks.     Von Connective Action zu Collective Action: eine Fallstudie von YouTube Content Creators

    In an increasingly digitalized society, digital technologies shape communication, networking, organizing, and labor. A key aspect of this transformation is the platform economy, which presents both opportunities and challenges. Content creators, as platform workers, experience these contradictions firsthand. While digital platforms offer easy market entry and global reach, they also impose precarious conditions and reinforce power imbalances through opaque algorithms, untransparent policies, and lock-in effects. This raises questions about how content creators can mobilize collective action to reshape these structures. Social movement literature highlights the role of digital spaces in facilitating connective action – characterized as contemporary social movement dynamics that are highly personalized, digitally driven, and lack clear organizational structures, identities, and coordination resources from institutionalized social movement organizations. However, such movements often struggle to sustain resources, prompting scholars to examine their transition into more structured forms of collective action. This thesis empirically explores bottom-up resistance to platform power asymmetries by analyzing YouTube content creators’ collective advocacy for fairer working conditions. Using a qualitative single-case study, this research conducts a netnography of the YouTubers Union/FairTube movement, investigating its transition from a loosely connected, digitally driven movement to a more structured form of collective action. A communicative constitution of organization perspective provides an analytical lens to identify communicative practices which drive organizing processes that enable action. The analysis reveals how different forms of organizing shape distinct types of collective action.In einer zunehmend digitalisierten Gesellschaft prägen digitale Technologien Kommunikation, Vernetzung, Organisation und Arbeit. Ein zentraler Aspekt dieser Transformation ist die Plattformökonomie, die Chancen und Herausforderungen mit sich bringt. Content Creators erleben als Plattformarbeiter diese Widersprüche direkt in ihrem Arbeitsalltag: Digitale Plattformen ermöglichen einerseits einfachen Markteintritt und globale Reichweite, schaffen jedoch prekäre Arbeitsbedingungen und verstärken Machtungleichgewichte durch undurchsichtige Algorithmen und intransparente Richtlinien. Dies wirft die Frage auf, wie Content Creators kollektive Handlungen mobilisieren können, um diese Strukturen zu verändern. Die Literatur zu sozialen Bewegungen betont die Rolle digitaler Räume für Collective Action – also Handlungen, die wenig strukturierte, und dafür personalisierte und digital getriebene Dynamiken aufweisen. Solche Bewegungen haben oft Schwierigkeiten, Ressourcen zu sichern, was Forscher dazu anregt, ihre Transformation in strukturiertere kollektive Handlungen zu untersuchen. Diese Dissertation untersucht den Widerstand gegen Plattformmacht-Asymmetrien, indem sie das kollektive Engagement von YouTube-Creator für fairere Arbeitsbedingungen analysiert. Eine qualitative Fallstudie der YouTubers Union/FairTube-Bewegung zeigt ihre Entwicklung von einer fluiden, digital getriebenen Bewegung hin zu einer stärker strukturierten Form kollektiver Handlung.     Exploration of the intersection: Intercultural sensitivity and destination to enter in the internationalization process

    This thesis investigated the unexplored intersection of intercultural sensitivity (IS) and international market selection (IMS), thereby contributing to the upcoming stream of microfoundations research. In the mainstream literature, it is argued that cultural distance is expected to be negatively related to IMS decisions, based on the logic that it worsens the risk-return ratio as a significant source of uncertainty. In order to prove this claim, researchers have typically relied on objectively measured national-level data (e.g., Kogut & Singh’s Index) in their analysis. The thesis reflects critically on this argument by stating that, in practice, IB decisions, such as IMS, are made by boundedly rational individuals based on incomplete and subjective representations of foreign markets. In other words, the individual’s perceived cultural distance and the risk he or she attributes to this dimension may significantly differ from what objectively measured national-level data might have suggested. In order to address this unsatisfactory status quo, the thesis introduced the concept of intercultural sensitivity, which describes one’s ability to respect, recognize, and appreciate cultural diversity and is dynamically developed primarily through experiential learning (e.g., experience as an expat) or inherently possessed attributes (e.g., open-mindedness), allowing the individual to create and internalize complex constructs of foreign cultures. Based on this understanding, this thesis made the proposition that the decision maker’s level of IS and the associated sophisticated understanding of cultural differences may reduce the perceived risk of operating in foreign cultures, thus potentially moderating the widely assumed negative relationship between cultural distance and destination choice in the international market selection. Adopting a narrative qualitative research approach, the author of the thesis conducted ten semi-structured interviews with Austrian managers who have been involved in IMS decision-making processes in order to reflect on their insights based on how markets were evaluated and eventually selected. On the basis of a thorough data analysis of the interview transcripts comparing the interviewees’ statements with factors that have been empirically proven to facilitate the development of IS, it was suggested that the entire interview sample most likely possesses a high level of intercultural sensitivity based on their backgrounds, attributes and abilities displayed during the interviews. In line with the main argument of the intercultural competence and intercultural sensitivity literature, the interviewees showed strong agreement that cultural distance did not play a significant role in IMS decisions, as cultural differences were generally perceived as manageable factors. Accordingly, the proposition that the individual’s level of intercultural sensitivity may act as a moderating variable by influencing how cultural distance is perceived received support from the empirical data by outlining the critical, yet so far overlooked, role of IS in the IMS decision-making process.     Strategische Führung in Zeiten der digitalen Transformation : Eine Analyse der zentralen Führungskompetenzen im Kontext der Digitalisierung

    Die digitale Transformation stellt den Megatrend für Organisationen dar und verändert sowohl technologische als auch zwischenmenschliche Aspekte der Arbeitswelt grundlegend. Führungskräfte sehen sich zunehmend komplexen, dynamischen und unsicheren Rahmenbedingungen gegenüber, die neue und spezifische Führungskompetenzen erfordern. Ziel dieser Diplomarbeit ist es, zentrale Führungskompetenzen im Kontext der digitalen Transformation systematisch zu identifizieren, zu analysieren und in einem integrativen Framework darzustellen. Aufbauend auf einer umfassenden Literaturanalyse wird zunächst das Phänomen der digitalen Transformation beleuchtet, inklusive ihrer Ursachen, etwa der technologischen Entwicklung (Mooresches Gesetz). Anschließend werden klassische Führungskompetenzen erläutert, bevor auf Basis einer systematischen Literaturrecherche jene Kompetenzen und Charaktereigenschaften herausgearbeitet werden, die im digitalen Zeitalter besonders relevant sind. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass erfolgreiche Führung in Zeiten der Digitalisierung eine Kombination aus funktionalen, sozialen, strategischen und kognitiven Kompetenzen sowie ausgewählten Charaktereigenschaften erfordert.
