Der Nationalsozialistische Lehrerbund als Erziehungsinstanz im Deutschen Reich 1933-1945 am Beispiel der Schülerzeitschrift „Hilf mit!“

    No full text

Dielectric spectroscopy, a versatile analytical technique, investigates the dielectric properties of materials by measuring their response to an external periodically time-varying electric field across a broad frequency range. It has applications in understanding material properties such as permittivity, conductivity, and molecular dynamics, with significant relevance in fields like polymer science, biology, and molecular electronics. Using this powerful tool, this thesis investigates the dielectric and conductive properties of single organic molecules, specifically Bis-(acetylsulfanyl) 7 helicene (BA7H), adsorbed on the single-crystal Ag(111) surface. Utilizing low-temperature microwave scanning tunneling microscopy, reflection coefficient S11(z, f) measurements at GHz frequencies were performed to quantify molecular conductance G(z, f) and capacitance C(z, f) at the nanoscale. Experimental results were derived using retraction curves obtained over BA7H and pristine Ag(111). The analysis involved repeating the measurement at least five times at each different frequency value to ensure reproducibility and accuracy in determining the complex-valued dielectric function ε^∗(ω). The findings highlighted the capabilities of a microwave-adapted scanning tunneling microscope in unraveling the dielectric absorption and polarization dynamics at the molecular level. Through careful optimization and parameter tuning, this study addresses technical challenges associated with conductance measurements at GHz frequency. These advancements offer valuable insights into the intrinsic properties of functional organic molecules and their potential applications in nanoscale devices. Future work will focus on expanding this methodology to study larger assemblies and more complicated molecular systems to further enhance the understanding of molecular-scale electrical phenomena.Author Asem Al-BaserMasterarbeit Johannes Kepler Universität Linz 202

This dissertation focuses on health shocks and their implications for health behavior, fertility, and labor market outcomes. The first two chapters focus on the intergenerational consequences of health shocks. Chapter 2 explores the effects of severe parental illness on young children’s mental healthcare utilization, while Chapter 3 investigates the impact of parental death on adult daughters’ fertility. The last two chapters study how the economic situation of patients and factors within the hospital sector shape patient outcomes following a health shock. Chapter 4 examines the socio-economic differences in mortality and healthcare utilization after a cancer diagnosis, while Chapter 5 studies the effects of hospital crowding on patients’ healthcare use and labor market outcomes in the short- and medium-term for a broad range of acute inpatient diagnoses.Author Felix Glaser, BSc MScDissertation Johannes Kepler Universität Linz 202

scientifi reports / Impact of the dispersive patch placement on dissipated power in radiofrequency ablation for pulmonary vein isolation via a virtual patient study

    No full text
Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is a minimally invasive technique for treating arrhythmias by interrupting abnormal electrical signals in the heart. Through a catheter tip, it delivers an alternating current that flows through the heart muscle tissue and the blood to a dispersive patch on the patient’s skin. This study aims to test the hypothesis that the placement of the dispersive patch affects the efficacy and safety of RFA. By optimizing the patch position, the procedure could be made more effective and less risky for patients. A 3D in-silico model, based on patient imaging data, was developed to examine the effects of dispersive patch (DP) positioning on electric field distribution within cardiac tissue and the torso during RFA. We conducted 80 computer simulations using a CT-segmented torso model, exploring various DP and electrode configurations while applying standard (25 W) and high (90 W) power settings. For each configuration, we assessed the effectiveness of the DP in delivering power to cardiac tissue near the electrode. The main finding indicates that DP efficacy is significantly influenced by the current delivered to cardiac tissue. Notably, using an anterior patch during ablation proved more effective for the posterior left atrium compared to a posterior patch.Version of recor

education sciences / The Role of the Arts in the Classroom: Does Integration of the Arts Promote Social Relationships in the Classroom?

    No full text
Positive social relationships between pupils are crucial for creating a conducive learning environment. Integrating the arts into classrooms fosters these relationships by promoting creative expression and social skills such as empathy, mutual support, and teamwork. Arts-based activities encourage collaboration, enabling pupils to develop creative solutions and appreciate diverse perspectives. Despite growing interest in this interdisciplinary approach, research on its impact on pupil relationships remains limited. This longitudinal study collected data from 381 pupils across five schools at two measurement points using standardized questionnaires to assess different dimensions of social relationships. Results indicated a significant increase in helpfulness and a reduction in discrimination among pupils who participated in several weeks of arts workshops. However, cliquishness and competitive thinking also increased, while aggressiveness remained unchanged regardless of group membership. These findings demonstrate the benefits of arts integration for fostering positive pupil relationships while highlighting the complex dynamics between creative learning environments and social interactions. The results underscore the need for targeted strategies to balance cooperation and competition effectively, ensuring that arts-based approaches maximize their potential to enhance classroom social dynamics.Version of recor

Teachers' well-being, attitudes and beliefs in CLIL – differences between AHS, MS and HTL CLIL teachers in Austria

    No full text
Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) has been a key area of research over the last years. Existing studies have largely focused on students’ perspectives with respect to CLIL and examined its benefits for students. However, research in the Austrian context addressing CLIL teachers’ perspectives seems to be scarce. In an attempt to partly replicate and build on Hessel et al.’s study (2020), this thesis investigates the working lives of Austrian CLIL teachers, examining differences and similarities in AHS, HTL and MS CLIL teachers’ professional well-being as well as their attitudes and beliefs towards CLIL. A mixed-methods approach was applied that consisted of an online survey as well as semi-structured interviews that allowed for more profound insights into certain matters. The online questionnaire contained adapted items of Butler and Kern’s (2016) PERMA-Profiler to measure well-being as well as adapted items of Hessel et al. (2020), Lazarevic (2022) and McDougald (2015) concerning attitudes and beliefs towards CLIL. In total, 97 Austrian CLIL teachers (AHS: n = 38; MS: n=18 HTL: n = 41) took part in the survey and five CLIL teachers (AHS: n=2; MS: n=1, HTL: n=2) were additionally interviewed. The findings revealed significant between-group differences regarding the CLIL teachers’ well-being, manifesting themselves in the participants’ different overall PERMA mean scores. Generally, the well-being of AHS CLIL teachers was found to be higher than that of MS and HTL CLIL teachers. Moreover, significant between-group differences occasionally arose in certain areas concerning CLIL-related attitudes and beliefs, such as beliefs about CLIL pupils, issues relating to themselves as CLIL teachers and the CLIL status. Overall, the belief in the efficacy of CLIL seemed to be highest in the AHS group, followed by the MS and the HTL group. Further, most participating CLIL teachers recognized the need for additional CLIL teaching material and language and methodology training. Certain attitudes and beliefs, such as perceived favorable views towards CLIL amongst different members of the school community, having completed sufficient CLIL teacher training and a perceived high student enjoyment of CLIL lessons correlated with a high professional well-being. The CLIL implementation and cooperation with colleagues varied widely between and within the three groups. Amongst the most common identified challenges for CLIL teachers were the lack of CLIL teaching material, combining content and language meaningfully and the low English proficiency level of students at the lower-secondary level. Fundamentally, the findings highlighted the need for changes in the current CLIL policy, which should especially focus on the enhancement of the CLIL status and awareness in Austria. Determining a more clear-cut course in terms of CLIL implementation and reconsidering certain aspects pertaining to CLIL teacher training/selection emerged as further desirable changes.eingereicht von Lena Binder, BEdAngefertigt an der Pädagogischen Hochschule OberösterreichMasterarbeit Johannes Kepler Universität Linz 2025Arbeit auf den öffentlichen PCs in den Bibliotheken der JKU+Medizin abrufba
