Anatomical variations of hip acetabulum and femoral head-neck junction may predispose to clinical consequences : a case-based discussion of complex morphological interactions
The main goal of this review is to comprehensively present the properties of silicon, germanium, and silicon-germanium systems and analyze current possibilities of producing fibers based on them for applications as a photovoltaic fabric for a future soldier. The vision of the future is to produce a feather-light photovoltaic optic fiber, exhibiting mechanical properties typical of Kevlar, enabling power/recharging of portable electric devices while simultaneously protecting against mechanical damage and explosions. This article analyzes, in detail, issues such as the occurrence and mobility of germanium in the environment, the life cycle of SiGe photovoltaic fabrics, ecotoxicological and human health implications, sustainable development strategies and policy implications, and analytical challenges due to low concentrations in the environment. Moreover, the advantages and disadvantages of silicon-based solar cells are analyzed, taking into account various factors, including environmental factors. Finally, the soldier of the future is analyzed
Resident viruses, but not honeybee-associated viruses, impair solitary bee fitness in the field
Viruses can impact individual host fitness and host population dynamics, especially following host shifts. Thus, the decline of wild solitary bee populations over the last few decades may be linked to viruses or other pathogens. However, evidence for the impact of viruses—transmitted from other genera or resident in solitary bees—on their fitness remains scarce. Here, by assessing solitary bee (Osmia cornuta) foraging, offspring sex ratio, survival and body mass across seven locations in northern Switzerland, we show that resident viruses—but not honeybee-associated viruses—can impact fitness proxies in the field. Loads of Osmia-resident viruses (Ganda bee virus—GABV; Scaldis River bee virus—SRBV) and honeybee-associated viruses (black queen cell virus—BQCV; deformed wing virus B—DWV-B) were quantified in foraging females. Prevalence and loads of GABV and SRBV were higher than BQCV and DWV-B. Females with high SRBV or GABV loads had reduced offspring survival or lower male offspring body mass, respectively. Honeybee-associated viruses had no impact on O. cornuta fitness proxies. We demonstrate that viruses can affect solitary bee fitness negatively, but the degree of impact varies with viral species and provenance. Further research is needed to unravel the dynamics of multi-host pathogens in pollinator communities

Identity in a foreign land : on the problem of identity in Mariusz Hoffmann’s novel "Polnischer Abgang” (2023)
Artykuł poświęcony jest problematyce tożsamości w debiutanckiej powieści Mariusza Hoffmanna „Polnischer Abgang” (2023). Autorka analizuje, w jaki sposób doświadczenie migracji wpływa na kształtowanie się tożsamości jednostki oraz jakie wzorce narracyjne i motywy charakterystyczne dla literatury postmigracyjnej pojawiają się w utworze. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na symboliczne znaczenie przekroczenia granicy, przestrzeń obozu przejściowego oraz proces asymilacji w społeczeństwie przyjmującym. Powieść Hoffmanna wpisuje się w nurt niemieckojęzycznej literatury autorów o polskich korzeniach i podejmuje kwestie transgeneracyjności, pamięci rodzinnej oraz napięcia między autoidentyfikacją a identyfikacją narzuconą z zewnątrz. Analiza prowadzi do wniosku, że choć Hoffmann korzysta z utrwalonych schematów literatury migracyjnej, jego powieść stanowi istotny głos w dyskusji nad współczesną tożsamością kulturową, przynależnością i doświadczeniem „bycia pomiędzy”.The article examines the issue of identity in Mariusz Hoffmann’s debut novel “Polnischer Abgang” (2023). It explores how the experience of migration shapes the protagonist’s identity and analyzes the narrative patterns and motifs characteristic of post-migration literature present in the text. Particular attention is given to the symbolic meaning of border crossing, the transitional space of the refugee camp, and the process of integration into the host society. The novel is situated within the German-language literary tradition of authors of Polish origin and addresses questions of transgenerational memory, family narratives, and the tension between self-identification and externally imposed identity. The analysis concludes that although Hoffmann draws on established patterns of migration literature, his novel offers an important contribution to contemporary discussions on cultural identity, belonging, and the experience of living “in-between.

Scalar parity-odd trispectrum from gravitational Chern-Simons interaction vertices
In this paper, we explore parity violation in a scalar trispectrum from a dynamical Chern-Simons gravity theory. So far, a graviton-mediated diagram with two vertexes being of general relativity has been studied in this theory by taking into account the impact of a modified dispersion relation of gravitons on graviton's bulk propagators. We instead study a parity-odd trispectrum from both a graviton-mediated diagram, where one of the two vertexes originates from the Chern-Simons term, and a contact diagram by using the bulk propagators in general relativity. After computing the scalar-scalar-tensor cubic interactions and the scalar quartic ones originating from the Chern-Simons term, first we show that the resultant parity-odd trispectrum vanishes in the case of Bunch-Davies initial conditions, which is consistent with a no-go theorem for a non-vanishing parity-odd trispectrum. Then, we discuss a way to acquire a non-vanishing parity-odd trispectrum from the viewpoint of non-Bunch-Davies initial conditions
