    Early Outcomes, Learning Curve and Cost Analysis of Totally Robotic Sleeve Gastrectomy

    No full text
    Background: Robotic sleeve gastrectomy (RSG) is gaining adoption in metabolic bariatric surgery, yet evidence on its perioperative safety, efficiency, and costs during the early learning phase remains limited. Objectives: To evaluate outcomes, learning curve dynamics, and procedural costs for totally robotic sleeve gastrectomy. Setting: Academic center. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted of the first 53 consecutive RSGs (April 2023–July 2025) performed by a single surgeon using a standardized fully robotic technique. Perioperative variables, 30-day morbidity, and cost data were collected. Learning curves for docking time, console time, and total operative time were assessed using Cumulative Sum (CUSUM) analysis. Results: Mean age and BMI were 38.1 ± 12.6 years and 41.6 ± 6.3 kg/m2, respectively; 71.7% were female. Overall complication rate was 7.5% (3 bleedings, 1 leak) with no mortality or reinterventions. ICU admission and readmission each occurred in 1.9% of cases. Mean docking time was 17.8 ± 9.4 min, console time 51.5 ± 17.0 min, and total operative time 69.3 ± 18.1 min. The mean length of stay was 3.6 ± 1.1 days (range 2–10). CUSUM identified proficiency points at case 18 for docking time (− 51.1%), case 23 for console time (− 18.6%), and case 22 for total operative time (− 21.5%). Median length of stay was 3 days. Mean direct instrument/stapling cost per RSG was €4,535. Conclusions: Totally RSG can be introduced with safe outcomes even during the learning phase. Proficiency for operative efficiency was reached after 20 cases

    WHICH UNBALANCED BIPARTITE TADPOLES ARE DETERMINED BY THEIR SPECTRUM?

    No full text
    The tadpole graph Lg,t consists of a cycle Cg joined by an edge to an endpoint of the path Pt. In this paper we study some spectral properties of any unbalanced bipartite signed tadpole L_2(l+1),t. It turns out that the switching equivalence class represented by L_2(l+1),t is determined by its adjacency spectrum if and only if l = 1 and t not in {7, 8, 10}

    Investigation of mixing/segregation patterns of two dissimilar granular solids in fluidized beds by capacitance probes

    No full text
    The present study addresses mixing/segregation phenomena relevant to several chemical processes in bubbling fluidized bed reactors. Mixing between two dissimilar solids belonging to group B and D of Geldart classification is investigated in a lab-scale fluidized bed at high temperature. Capacitance probes are selected and tested innovatively to assess the transient phase of the mixing process between the two solids and the measurement of steady local mixture composition thanks to dissimilar dielectric properties of gas and solids and of the two chosen solids. A new procedure to gather quantitative results has been used considering expansion of the emulsion phase voidage and validated based on experimental data measured at 500 °C in the bubbling fluidized bed regime. The tests in transient conditions comprise the determination of two axial dispersion coefficients, Ds,macroa, on average, 3.1×10-2m2/s, and Dsa, ranging between 1.8 and 3.1×10-3m2/s, referred to the tracers batch crossing the bed vertically without mixing with the rest of the bed and to the tracer batch disaggregating and reaching local steady-state concentrations in the dense bed, respectively. New insights are mainly revealed with reference to the phenomenology at steady-state conditions. In particular, axial and radial segregation patterns could be determined. Critical issues and corresponding improvements of the technique are highlighted and are mainly related to the properties of the two dissimilar solids and the capacitance probes amplification system

    Il contributo analizza l'evoluzione normativa e strutturale delle misure di prevenzione amministrativa deputate a contrastare fenomeni di infiltrazione della criminalità mafiosa nelle imprese e nel circuito economico legale, mirando ad evidenziare come l'attuale sistema presenti importanti differenze con quello previgente, al punto da potersi parlare di un modello pluralista di prevenzione amministrativa

    Visible-light-driven CO2 reduction to formic acid by a rosin-derived defective TiO2/C heterostructure

    No full text
    The photocatalytic reduction of CO2 into value-added chemicals is a key strategy to address the depletion of fossil fuels and foster the transition toward a circular carbon economy. Here, the synthesis under mild conditions of a defective anatase TiO2/carbon heterostructure, derived from a rosin-based hybrid gel, is reported. The controlled pyrolysis of rosin, a by-product of wood manufacturing, generates ordered graphitic domains interconnected with the TiO2 matrix. This latter is enriched with oxygen vacancies that enhance light absorption and charge separation. Structural and spectroscopic analyses confirm the formation of a robust bulk heterostructure with favorable electronic properties (Eg = 3.0 eV; ECB = –0.40 V vs NHE) for CO2 photoreduction. Under both UV and visible light irradiation, and with ethanol as sacrificial donor, the catalyst yields over 3100 μg·g−1 of formic acid in 45 min, with a normalized production rate of 2.1 μmol·g−1·h−1·W−1, outperforming several TiO2-based benchmark materials. Stable formic acid production with minimal formation of acetic acid is maintained across five consecutive cycles under mild conditions (pH 5). This study introduces a sustainable, low-cost photocatalyst that integrates waste valorization with efficient solar-driven CO2 conversion, offering a scalable platform for green chemical processes

    The Montalbano Fortress in La Spezia, third session and last notes

    No full text
    The essay completes the presentation of the extensive digital survey of the Montalbano Fortress in La Spezia, Italy, previously presented in the editions 2024 and 2025 of the Fortmed conference. The documentation operations were brought on in 2024-2025 by a team of the Department of Architecture, University of Florence in collaboration with La Spezia Municipality, and were aimed to create the most accurate and complete documentation about the complex and huge fortress placed on the top of the hills closing to the North the city structure. In the present paper the research arrives to its conclusion with the need of giving an ending to a very complex subject where extended construction and old terraforming, destructive interventions, long decay, and the tentative of colonization by the local plants has created a changeling subject complete of very dangerous sectors were the progressive alteration of the structures has left fascinating, but also disquieting, damaged ruins. With the use of 3D Laser Scanner, terrestrial photogrammetry and Virtual Reality cameras it was possible to create a detailed digital replica of this huge complex, documenting all the accessible spaces and entering, after decades, in the areas isolated by the German Army’s mines which destroyed large sectors of the fortress at the end of the World War Two. After almost one century since being abandoned the area may have an extremely robust potential giving a new possible eyesight on the Gulf of La Spezia, and becoming a landscape regeneration challenge, both in terms of quality and of administration. In this scenario, a proper use of digital tools for documentation and dissemination is more than ever a strategic ally for a next recovery
