    Get PDF
The ninth annual Practice & Experience in Advanced Research Computing (PEARC) conference, highlighting the Power of Collaboration, was held July 20–July 24, 2025, in Columbus, Ohio. The PEARC conference series is a community-driven effort built on the successes of the past, with the aim to grow and increase inclusivity by involving additional local, regional, national, and international cyberinfrastructure and research computing partners spanning academia, government, and industry. The PEARC Conference Series works to integrate and meet the collective interests of the growing Research Computing and Data (RCD) community by providing a forum for discussing challenges, opportunities, and solutions among its broad range of participants. This report details findings and recommendations from an extensive evaluation of the PEARC25 conference experience, including its student, exhibitor, technical, and protege-mentor programs.Association for Comouting Machinery (ACM

Exploring Educational Messages About Sexual Choking: Results of a Feasibility, Acceptability, and Efficacy Study Among College Students

    Get PDF
IntroductionSexual choking has become prevalent among young adults, including college students, and poses significant health risks; yet, no evidence-based interventions address it. Using data from a campus-representative survey of college students, we examined participants’ age at first learning about choking and their views about teaching youth about choking and its risks. We also randomized students to one of three groups and tested the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary efficacy of educational messages related to choking.MethodThis study uses data from a campus-representative confidential online survey of 973 undergraduate students in Fall 2021.ResultsOn average, students had first learned about sexual choking at 15.3 years old. Also, 61.1% felt that youth should first be taught about choking and its health risks during high school, with an additional 22.1% indicating middle school. Our educational messages had high feasibility and acceptability ratings and showed strong evidence of preliminary efficacy among students who had previously choked or been choked during sexual activities.ConclusionsMost students had first learned about choking as adolescents, highlighting the need for fact-based sexuality education. We found broad student support for learning about choking and its risks from college health professionals, including faculty who teach sexuality- and health-related courses. Our educational messages can be expanded to support student health and safety.Policy ImplicationsFindings have implications for the development of educational programming to address sexual choking. Public health agencies also have an important role in education

Intra-group and Inter-group Racial Disparities in Nonprofit Funding: Insights from Stratification Economics

    Get PDF
Recent research has increasingly examined nonprofit funding disparities between White and Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) communities, especially after the murder of George Floyd in 2020. However, limited attention has been paid to funding disparities among different BIPOC sub-groups. Drawing on stratification economics, this paper investigates intra-BIPOC disparities and their relationship to White-BIPOC disparity in nonprofit funding. Using a national dataset of human services general support grants from 2018 to 2022, the study finds that racial disparities in nonprofit funding exist not only between White and BIPOC communities—as well documented in existing literature—but also among different BIPOC sub-groups. Moreover, intra-BIPOC disparities either sustain or exacerbate White-BIPOC disparity, thereby perpetuating racial hierarchies in nonprofit funding. These findings enrich our understanding of racial disparities in nonprofit funding and underscore the need for actions addressing the nuanced group dynamics both within and beyond BIPOC communities. This research was supported by the University of Minnesota Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship

An IU Libraries blog post. "Indiana scholars use IU ScholarWorks to host a wide range of their scholarly output: manuscripts, dissertations, open educational materials, conference slides and transcripts, event programs, and much more. Some of this material is unique to the repository, but some exists in different forms elsewhere on the web, such as a journal’s website or a conference’s YouTube channel. As with any citation, when referencing works in an institutional repository it’s important to cite that work as you accessed it—in this case, as archived material...
