Cross-cultural Adaptation, Reliability, and Validity of the Turkish Version of the Health Professionals Communication Skills Scale

Methods: The HP-CSS was translated into Turkish following an international instrument translation guideline. A convenience sample of 394 health professionals participated in this study. Internal consistency reliability, content validity, test-retest reliability, and convergent validity were assessed. A confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to evaluate the construct validity. Results: The Turkish version of HP-CSS comprised four factors (empathy, informative communication, respect, and social skill). The HP-CSS-TR demonstrated adequate internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha values .72-.79). In terms of the content validity, the scale-level content validity index (CVI) was .94, and the item-level CVI ranged from .83 to 1.00. The HP-CSS-TR showed good test-retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficients were above .82). No statistically significant difference was found between the applications. There was a good agreement between the HP-CSS-TR and communication skills inventory (CSI) scales. Confirmatory factor analysis results (chi 2/df, GFI, AGFI, IFI, TLI, CFI, RMSEA, and SRMR) showed a good fit for the original four-factor model. Conclusion: Results showed that the Turkish version of the HP-CSS is a valid and reliable tool for the assessment of communication skills of health professionals in Turkey. The use of the HP-CSS-TR measure in clinical settings could be useful in enhancing the quality of care by identifying inadequacies and improving communication skills. Frequency of RHD variants in serologically weak D Turkish blood donors
PubMed: 333089792-s2.0-85097462523Background: RhD typing has remained of primary importance, as being the leading cause of hemolytic disease of the newborn. Among Rh system's 55 blood group antigens, RhD is the most immunogenic. We aimed with this study to determine weak D/partial D variant frequency in blood donors who were admitted to our blood center and have serologically designated blood group weak D. Materials and methods: We screened blood donors who admitted between 2011 and 2017 to our blood center. Sixty-seven serologically weak D phenotyped donors have participated in the study. These donors' samples were studied further by Polymerase Chain Reaction Sequence- Specific Primers (PCR-SSP) for determining D variants. Results: Weak D phenotype was detected in 228(0.12 %) out of 177,554 donors. Sixty-seven of them agreed to take part in the study. The frequency of weak D and partial D was 68.7 % (n = 46), and 22.4 % (n = 15), in order. The most encountered weak D and partial D variant was type 15 and DFR type, respectively. Conclusions: The prevalence of serologically weak D phenotypes varies by race and ethnicity. Turkey is a country covering a mixture of European and Asian DNA with different ethnic groups. Thus, our research as giving the overall distribution of RHD variants from the largest city of Turkey, which may reflect the general ethnic background of the country, would help to the establishment of a databank for blood banking. This paper is the first molecular study on RHD variants in Turkey. Tadalafil attenuates ischemic damage as well as reperfusion injury in the rat ovary

It has a dual function in ischaemic and re-perfused tissues, i.e. vasodilatation and anti-oxidant effects. These features of tadalafil distinguish it from other anti-oxidants. We investigated the dual effect of tadalafil on ischaemia and reperfusion injury in the rat ovary. Material and Methods: We established five study groups. Group 1 (n=6): sham-operated; group 2 (n=6): torsion; group 3 (n=6): torsion and Tadalafil; group 4 (n=6): torsion/de-torsion; and group 5 (n=6): torsion/de-torsion and tadalafil. Ovarian samples were harvested from animals and evaluated in terms of histopathologic changes, tissue malondialdehyde (MDA) concentrations, lactate production, and plasma cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). Results: Follicular degeneration, oedema, haemorrhage, and inflammatory cells were significantly decreased in group 5 in comparison with group 4. Group 2 and group 3 were compared in terms of vascular congestion and haemorrhage; these parameters were significantly decreased in group 3. in addition, significantly decreased MDA and lactate concentrations were observed in group 5 in comparison with group 4. Increased cGMP concentrations were detected in group 3 and group 5. Conclusion: We conclude that tadalafil might be useful in protecting the ovary against ischaemia and reperfusion injury. in the evet of ovarian torsion, it will provide a greater therapeutic effect than only performing de-torsion of the ovary or using other anti-oxidant agents
COVID-19 and Epilepsy: Its Effects on Seizures, Treatment and Social Life

A virus may cause neurological involvement, as well as systemic involvement. There is no evidence that COVID-19 disease triggers or worsens existing epileptic seizures. Seizures can be triggered secondary to the disease. Likewise, it is understood that individuals with epilepsy are not more likely to contract COVID-19 disease, and have not had the disease more seriously. Unless there are additional problems that pose a risk for COVID-19, the antiepileptic drugs used by patients do not pose a risk for infection. When it is necessary to use hydroxychloroquine, azithromycin and similar drugs in the treatment of COVID-19, antiepileptic treatment is recommended to be reviewed and properly regulated. Conditions, such as the use of cold medicines can increase the risk of seizures due to the pseudoephedrine they contain, and the risk of infection with immunomodulating drugs should be specially addressed. the risk of contamination is highest in places like hospital units, especially emergency units. Therefore, measures should be taken to prevent situations that may lead to the unnecessary application of people to the hospitals and the emergency units. During the epidemic period, individuals will try to obtain information using media, social media and websites. That is why it is crucial for health institutions and authorities to provide accurate information and guide the people during the epidemic. Informing people will allow patients to see the risks of the COVID epidemic more accurately and help prevent unnecessary anxiety
The Effect of Systemic Chemotherapy on Ovarian Function: A Prospective Clinical Trial
WOS: 000547335300006PubMed: 32656517Objective: Premenopausal women with breast cancer arc at risk of developing ovarian failure after chemotherapy. the aim of this study was to investigate the negative effects of systemic chemotherapy on ovarian function in premenoupausal women with breast cancer. Materials and Methods: Thirty-one premenopausal women with operable breast cancer aged between 26-48 years were enrolled in this prospective cohort study CO investigate preliminary results. Additional 69 patients data will be included after the completion of all five measurements. the change in serum Antimullerian Hormone (AMH) levels, mean ovarian volumes (MOV) and antral follicle counts (AFCs) at 3-month intervals were recorded to evaluate ovarian function. Women who had at least one pretreatment and four post-treatment measurements in one year follow-up period were included in the study. Decision of chemotherapy regimen was taken by the Tumor Board. Results: Thirty-one patients had all five AMH, MOV and AFCs results. There was a statistically significant negative correlation between 1st - 5th AMH levels (p=0.006) and 1st - 5th AFCs during the follow-up period (p<0.0001). However pie- and post-chemotherapy measurements of MOVs did not demonstrate any significant correlation (p=0.799). BMI, parity, lactation, him pathology and molecular subtypes of breast cancer, alcohol intake, smoking and type of chemotherapy regimen were not significantly correlated with AMH, AFC and MOV. Conclusion: Pretreatment AMH levels and AFC were shown to have a significant role in early prediction of ovarian-reserve after chemotherapy
Compound muscle action potential scan and MScanFit motor unit number estimation during Wallerian degeneration after nerve transections
WOS: 000537273700001PubMed: 32415858Background Compound muscle action potential (CMAP) scan and MScanFit have been used to understand the consequences of denervation and reinnervation. This study aimed to monitor these parameters during Wallerian degeneration (WD) after acute nerve transections (ANT). Methods Beginning after urgent surgery, CMAP scans were recorded at 1-2 day intervals in 12 patients with ANT of the ulnar or median nerves, by stimulating the distal stump (DS). Stimulus intensities (SI), steps, returners, and MScanFit were calculated. Studies were grouped according to the examination time after ANT. Results were compared with those of 27 controls. Results CMAP amplitudes and MScanFit progressively declined, revealing a positive correlation with one another. SIs were higher in WD groups than controls. Steps appeared or disappeared in follow-up scans. the late WD group had higher returner% than the early WD and control groups. Conclusions MScanFit can monitor neuromuscular dysfunction during WD. THE PROGNOSTIC RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HISTOPATHOLOGICAL AND IMMUNOHISTOCHEMICAL FEATURES OF HEPATOCELLULAR CARCINOMA, INTRAHEPATIC CHOLANGIOCARCINOMA AND MIXED TYPE
WOS: 000552141700001PubMed: 32729298Hepatocellular carcinoma, intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, and combined hepatocellular and cholangiocarcinoma are the most common cancers of the liver. in this study, our first aim is to evaluate the relationship between prognosis and clinicopathological parameters. the second aim involves investigating the need for immunohistochemical staining and patterns of tumours to differentiate between them. Sixty-one cases were included in this study. For IHC, we used Hep par-1, CK7, CK19, CD56 and p53 staining, and the patterns of tumours were evaluated in haematoyxylin-eosin sections. No significant differences were found in Kaplan-Meier life analysis between the tumour types and OS and DFS values, but these values were greater in HCC than in ICC. There were no relationships between clinicopathologic parameters and OS and DFS. Although the multifocality, stage and grade of tumour were higher in HCC than in ICC, the perineural invasion and lymph node metastasis were more common in ICC than in HCC. the diagnosis was changed in 4 cases, from HCC to ICC in one case and to combined type in 3 cases after IHC. Pathologist should be alert to mixed patterns in terms of diagnosis and IHC, because it helps differential diagnosis in these cases
The effect of chewing gum on dry mouth, interdialytic weight gain, and intradialytic symptoms: A prospective, randomized controlled trial
WOS: 000573510000001PubMed: 32996239Introduction the major salivary glands can be stimulated by chewing gum to increase saliva flow and decrease xerostomia. the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of chewing gum on dry mouth, interdialytic weight gain, and intradialytic symptoms in hemodialysis (HD) patients. Methods This prospective randomized controlled single-blind study was conducted with patients who had been treated for at least 6 months with sessions 3 days a week for 4 hours at two HD units. Patients were randomly allocated to chewing gum group or the control group. in the chewing gum group, gum was chewed for 10 minutes six times a day, and when the patients felt mouth dryness or were thirsty. in the nonchewing gum group, gum was not chewed. the patients were followed-up for 3 months. A total of three saliva samples were taken before starting treatment at the first, 12th, and 36th HD session. Data were collected with the "Visual Analogue Scale (VAS)," "Hemodialysis Patients Fluid Control Scale," "Dialysis Symptom Index," and "Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale" at baseline, week 4, week 8, and week 12. Findings the study was completed with a total of 44 patients consisting of 22 patients in the each group. the second and third month VAS values (xerostomia) of the patients in the chewing gum groups were statistically significantly lower than those in the control group (P= 0.014,P < 0.001, respectively). the third month salivary flow rate in the chewing gum group was higher than the values in the control group patients (P < 0.001). Discussion It is anticipated that this study will raise nurses' awareness of dry mouth and encourage future studies on interventions to increase the salivary flow rate to prevent or treat dry mouth
