Metabody in Posthuman Architecture: Virtualizing Spatial Dynamics for Transformative Spaces
This research examines the concepts of metahumanism and metabody to explore the production of posthuman space. It examines the dynamic nature of posthuman space, which is characterized by fluidity, lack of form, and the interplay of relationships and interactions. Using Deleuze's distinction between the virtual and the actual, this study examines how posthuman space emerges as a convergence of these concepts, continuously shifting between fluid and solid states to accommodate the diverse posthuman experience. Virtualization is a crucial instrument for investigating posthuman architecture, especially within digital environments that foster creative expression and experimentation. Through a case study, this research examines the role of virtualization in forming a posthuman architectural landscape, demonstrating how digital domains offer unique opportunities for innovative space production and exploration. By highlighting the novel spaces that can be realized through virtualization, the study demonstrates the ability of posthuman architecture to cultivate new modes of interaction and engagement, thereby fundamentally altering our relationship with and perception of the built environment. This research contributes to the comprehension of the influence of virtualization on the formation of a posthuman architectural landscape by shedding light on its transformative capacities and implications. © 2023, Transnational Press London Ltd. Observation of psi(3770) -> eta J/psi
Using a data sample collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring, the Born cross section of the process e+e- -> eta J=psi at a center-of-mass energy pffisffi = 3.773 GeV is measured to be (8.88 +/- 0.87 +/- 0.42) pb. We fit the cross section line shape before correcting for the initial state radiation ffiffifromps = 3.773 to 4.600 GeV to obtain the branching fraction B(psi(3770) -> eta J=psi). We obtain B(psi(3770) -> eta J=psi) = (11.3 +/- 5.9 +/- 1.1) x 10-4 when the psi(3770) decay amplitude is added coher-ently to the other contributions, and (8.7 +/- 1.0 +/- 0.8) x 10-4 when it is added incoherently. Here the quoted uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. In both cases, the statistical significance of psi(3770) resonance is above 7 sigma. This is the first time the decay psi(3770) -> eta J=psi is observed with a statistical significance greater than 5 sigm
Türkiye'deki set işçilerinin deneyimleri üzerinden güvencesiz çalışmayı tanımlamak
ABSTRACT: This study (re)defines the precarious work in cultural industries in Turkey through the accounts of 31 set workers working in different tasks and departments in the film and television industries. Standing observes that as a result of globalization, a more fragmented emerging global class structure arises defined by insecurity and uncertainty, and he identifies the precariat as a distinct class that rises to the fore (2011). In order to provide a comprehensive, complex, and systematic understanding, Cultural Discourse Analysis (CuDA) by Donal Carbaugh is applied in the analysis of the interviews to explore the precarious employment of set workers in Turkey as a multilayered process, in this study. It is argued that precarious work constitutes a condition defined by struggles. This study unequivocally shows that set workers struggle in the workplace. It demonstrates that set workers in Turkey may be understood as a condition rather than a class and that their precarious situation is distinct. The qualitative research tries to offer a fresh perspective on everyday activity in a multi-dollar industry and introduces a new definition of precarious work through set workers, contributing to the existing literature.ÖZET: Bu çalışma, film ve televizyon endüstrilerinde farklı görevlerde ve departmanlarda çalışan 31 set işçisinin anlatıları üzerinden Türkiye'de kültür endüstrilerindeki güvencesiz çalışmayı (yeniden) tanımlamaktadır.
The crime of migrant smuggling regulated under The Turkish Criminal Code
Bu çalışmada, bir yandan göçmen kaçakçılığı suçu, Türk Ceza Kanunu bağlamında incelenirken bir yandan da devletin güvenliğine ve insan güvenliğine dair yaklaşımlar ışığında bir incelemeye tabi tutulmaktadır.ABSTRACT: Due to its interdisciplinary nature, the concept of migration is examined in many disciplines with different aspects and one of its aspects in criminal law is the crime of migrant smuggling. This crime is regulated in Article 79 of the Turkish Criminal Code under the section titled International Crimes. The crime of migrant smuggling which is mostly committed in an organized manner with its transnational nature poses a global problem that may be seen all over the world. Irregular migration movements and the smuggling of migrants within those movements are often perceived as a security threat by states. In the meantime, these activities also heavily affect the security of migrants in various aspects, particularly risks to the right to life and their physical integrity. Within this context, in order to combat this problem, the Palermo Convention and the Protocol against the Smuggling of Migrants supplementing the Convention have imposed various obligations on the parties, especially the criminalization of migrant smuggling. In Turkish Criminal Law, migrant smuggling activities have been criminalized in accordance with the Convention. In this study, the aforementioned crime is examined in the context of the Turkish Criminal Code, while being subjected to an analysis in the light of approaches to state security and human security

Caregiver support and burden drive intention to engage in a peer-to-peer exchange of services among caregivers of dementia patients
IntroductionThe number of people diagnosed with dementia is increasing, creating significant economic burden globally. With the progression of the disease, patients need a caregiver whose wellbeing is important for continuous care. Providing respite as a service, through sharing the responsibility of caregiving or support for the caregiver, is a costly initiative. A peer-to-peer online support platform for dementia caregivers, motivated by the sharing economy, putting exchange of knowhow, resources, and services at its center, has the potential to balance cost concerns with a search for respite. The aim of this research is to assess caregivers' intention to engage in peer-to-peer exchange. MethodsA survey including sociodemographic, technology use, and caregiving variables, structured questionnaires (Zarit caregiver burden, WHO brief quality of life scale, ADCS-ADL and chronic stress scale) were administered, January 2018-May 2019, in the dementia outpatient clinic of a university hospital, to a convenience sample of n = 203 individuals identifying themselves as primary caregivers. A path analysis exploring the drivers of an intention to engage in peer-to-peer service exchange was conducted. ResultsIn the path model, caregivers experiencing higher caregiver burden showed higher intention to engage (0.079, p < 0.001). Disease stage had no effect while patient activities of daily living, chronic social role related stressors of the caregiver and general quality of life were significant for the effect on the caregiver burden. Existing household support decreased the caregiver burden, affecting the intention to engage. Caregivers who can share more know-how demonstrate a higher intention to engage (0.579, p = 0.021). Caregiver technology affinity (0.458, p = 0.004) and ability and openness to seek professional help for psychological diagnoses (1.595, p = 0.012) also increased intention to engage. ConclusionThe model shows caregiver burden to be a major driver, along with caregiver characteristics that reflect their technology affinity and openness to the idea of general reciprocity. Existing support for obtaining knowhow and exchanging empathy have a direct effect on the intention to engage. Given the scarcity of caregiver support in the formal care channels, the identified potential of enlarging informal support via a peer-to-peer exchange mechanism holds promise
Mapping Anti-Diyanet Oppositional Publics During the 2018 Deism Controversy on Turkish Twitter
Amidst rumors that deism - a form of agnosticism that rejects organized religion - was becoming popular amongst students attending religious schools in Turkey, Ali Erbaş, the head of the Religious Affairs Directorate, made a public statement wherein deists were described as adhering to “a perverse and heretic philosophy”. Soon afterwards, social media was abuzz with responses to Erbaş’s controversial statement. Using computational data collection strategies to amass a dataset of 21,674 tweets sent out by 15,226 distinct Twitter users within 48 hours of the event, this study examines the positions and themes through which the controversy was discussed on Twitter. It relies on both qualitative analysis as well as social network analysis to present evidence on how the controversy turned the Turkish Twittersphere into a temporary dialogical space for the a) enunciation of “deconversion narratives” from Islam, b) expression of grassroots civil activism attempting to hold government actors accountable for Erbaş’s comments, c) voicing of rationalized collective critique towards the policies of Ali Erbaş and the Diyanet
Climate change, the poor and carbon pricing
However, the impacts of climate change on vulnerable groups, including the poor, are even greater. Whilst extreme weather events pose a tremendous threat to water, food, shelter and income security, air pollution derived from the use of fossil fuels causes severe health problems. Unless climate change is addressed effectively, its impacts will lead to the perpetuation of poverty. Moreover, the number of people pushed into poverty will increase across the world. The revenues generated from carbon pricing that aims at the transition to low or zero carbon economies should be earmarked to the development of mitigation and adaptation projects to protect the poor from the impacts of climate change rather than being allocated directly to the state budget
The factors affecting tourists' choice of local food
Lisansüstü Programlar Enstitüsü, Pazarlama İletişimi Ana Bilim DalıSon yıllarda gastronomi turizmi ve destinasyon turizmi oldukça tercih edilen turizm çeşidi haline gelmiştir. Bireyler artık seyahat etmek istedikleri destinasyonları, destinasyonu gastronomik olarak araştırmaktadır, destinasyona ait lezzetleri keşfetmek istemektedirler. Gıda tüketimini etkileyen belli faktörler bulunmaktadır. Bunlar kültürel, sosyal, psikolojik ve duyusal faktörlerden oluşmaktadır. Araştırmada bireylerin gıda tüketim kararı almasında motivasyonel faktörler ve psikolojik faktörler incelenmiştir. Motivasyonel faktörler başlığında kültürel deneyim, prestij, birliktelik duygusu, heyecan veren duygu durumu, duyusal çekicilik, sağlık sorunu ve fiziki çevre durumu faktörleri bulunurken Psikolojik faktörler başlığında ise yemek neofobisi, yemek neofilisi ve hedonik haz faktörleri bulunmaktadır. Bu faktörlerin İstanbul'a gelen yabancı turistlerin gıda seçimi üzerindeki etkisi araştırılmıştır. In recent years, gastronomy tourism and destination tourism have become a highly preffered type of tourism.
