Two-particle azimuthal correlations in ?p interactions using pPb collisions at ?sNN=8.16 TeV
The first measurements of the Fourier coefficients (V-n Delta) of the azimuthal distributions of charged hadrons emitted from photon-proton (gamma p) interactions are presented. The data are extracted from 68.8nb(-1) of ultra-peripheral proton-lead (pPb) collisions at root s(NN)= 8.16 TeV using the CMS detector. The high energy lead ions produce a flux of photons that can interact with the oncoming proton. This gamma p system provides a set of unique initial conditions with multiplicity lower than in photon-lead collisions but comparable to recent electron-positron and electron-proton data. The V-n Delta coefficients are presented in ranges of event multiplicity and transverse momentum (p(T)) and are compared to corresponding hadronic minimum bias pPb results. For a given multiplicity range, the mean p(T) of charged particles is smaller in gamma p than in pPb collisions. For both the gamma p and pPb samples, V-1 Delta is negative, V-2 Delta is positive, and V-3 Delta consistent with 0. For each multiplicity and p(T) range, V-2 Delta is larger for gamma p events. Metaverse and Diversity
A recurring theme in the public debates is the lack of diversity among the developers and decision-makers in infrastructural personnel, in the big data used, and in software implementations. Metaverse appeared as a core concept as part of a cluster of other terms such as Web3 and blockchain. Many businesses and brands aim to participate in an emerging metaverse scene, and diversity issues are at the forefront of early attempts in the imaginaries and practices of the metaverse. Imaginaries are essential because the metaverse is growing through interrelated technologies such as virtual reality and augmented reality, as well as new developments in artificial intelligence and blockchain applications. It is an ongoing project, and all may shape the outcome, from decision-makers to authorities and audiences. As a keen follower of journalistic talk, corporate and institutional discourses, and industry leaders, in this chapter, I intend to demonstrate what types of issues concerning diversity debates take place in the early days of metaverse. © 2024 selection and editorial matter, Dr Raquel V. 'Now we are whole:' humiliation, shame and pride in Aliyev's discourse on the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh War
The article focuses on the role, interchangeability and liquidity of emotions in the speeches of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during the Nagorno-Karabakh War in 2020. It enquires about the functionality of emotions before, during, and after the war and finds that Aliyev prepared, mobilized and motivated society for the war through multiple 'Address to the Nation' speeches that aimed to evoke specific emotions such as shame, pride, and humiliation via portraying the occupation of Susha and the surrounding region as a source of shame and humiliation and the military victories in 2020 as a source of pride for the whole nation, which, combined, constitutes a crucial example of the interchangeability and liquidity of emotions. The emotional appeals in his speeches also justify and garner support for the initiation of the conflict, which, after the victory, transforms into Azerbaijani pride and humiliation of Armenians
Tech-center location selection by interval-valued spherical fuzzy AHP based MULTIMOORA methodology
Intense market competition, changes in demand structure and acceleration in the technological developments have led companies to offer innovative and technology driven solutions in order to have competitive advantage and to survive in the market. In this aspect, tech-centers offering technological & innovative engineering solutions, and providing customized services to the needs of the companies, have taken attentions of academicians and practitioners. In this study, a tech-center location evaluation problem having a strategic and complex structure on the success and performance of the engineering companies, is analyzed. By considering inherent uncertainties and lack of information in the multi-criteria & multi-expert based tech-center location selection problem, the fuzzy set theory as a tool of artificial intelligence is employed. In the study, one of the recently proposed fuzzy sets namely Spherical fuzzy sets are used to handle uncertainty in a better way by incorporating a larger domain. According to the best knowledge of the authors, it is the first study concentrating on tech-centers and employing an integrated interval-valued Spherical fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) & MULTIMOORA methodology to solve location selection problem of a tech-center. In the study, a novel defuzzification function is also presented. In the application section, a case of a company planning to launch a tech-center is analyzed. Moreover, sensitivity analysis is applied to test the applicability and robustness of the method. The results of the proposed multi-expert Spherical fuzzy methodology are also compared with the results of AHP & MULTIMOORA methodology utilizing interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy sets
Differential associations of childhood adversity subtypes and psychopathology in men and women
Introduction Prior evidence suggests that men and women might be differentially susceptible to distinct types of childhood adversity (CA), but research on gender-specific associations between CA subtypes and psychiatric symptoms is limited. Objectives To test the gender-specific associations of CA subtypes and psychiatric symptoms in the general population. Methods Data from 791 twins and siblings from the TwinssCan project were used. Psychopathology and CA exposure were assessed using the Symptom Checklist-90 Revised (SCL-90) and the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ), respectively. The associations between the total CTQ scores and SCL-90 scores (i.e. total SCL-90, psychoticism, paranoid ideation, anxiety, depression, somatization, obsessive-compulsive, interpersonal sensitivity, hostility, and phobic anxiety) were tested in men and women separately. The associations between the five CA subtypes (i.e. physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, physical neglect, and emotional neglect) and total SCL-90 were tested in a mutually adjusted model. As exploratory analyses, the associations between all CA subtypes and the nine SCL-90 subdomain scores were similarly tested. The regression coefficients between men and women were compared using Chow’s test. All models were adjusted for age and family structure. Results Total CTQ was significantly associated with total SCL-90 in men (B = 0.013, SE = 0.003, P < .001) and women (B = 0.011, SE = 0.002, P < .001). The associations with the nine symptom domains were also significant in both genders (P < .001). No significant gender differences in the regression coefficients of total CTQ were detected. The analyses of CA subtypes showed a significant association between emotional abuse and total SCL-90 in women (B = 0.173, SE = 0.030, P < .001) and men (B = 0.080, SE = 0.035, P = .023), but the association was significantly stronger in women (?2(1) = 4.10, P = .043). The association of sexual abuse and total SCL-90 was only significant in women (B = 0.217, SE = 0.053, P < .001). The associations of emotional neglect (B = 0.061, SE = 0.027, P = .026) and physical neglect (B = 0.167, SE = 0.043, P < .001) with total SCL-90 were only significant in men. The explorative analyses of SCL-90 subdomains revealed significant associations of emotional abuse with all nine symptom domains and of sexual abuse with seven symptom domains in women. Significant associations of physical neglect with six symptom domains and of emotional neglect with depression were also detected in men. No other significant associations between CT subtypes and total SCL-90 or symptom domain scores were observed in men and women. Conclusions CA exposure was associated with diverse psychopathology similarly in both genders. However, women are more sensitive to abuse, but men are more sensitive to neglect. Gender-specific influences of CA subtypes on psychopathology should be considered in future studies. Disclosure of Interest None Declare
Türkiye’de Yumurta Dondurma Politikası: Karşılaştırmalı Perspektiften Eleştirel Bir Değerlendirme
Tıbbi teknolojilerdeki gelişmeler sayesinde tıbbi olmayan nedenlerle yumurta dondurma son on yılda dünya genelinde etkin ve yaygın bir yöntem olarak belirmeye başladı. Böylelikle doğurganlıkta yaşa bağlı azalma durumuna karşı bir kadının önceden yumurtalarını dondurması ve ileride tüp bebek yöntemiyle hamile kalabilmesi amaçlanıyor. Türkiye’de ise 2014 yılında yapılan mevzuat değişikliğiyle yumurta dondurmaya izin verilen tıbbi zorunluluk halleri daha geniş tanımlandı. Daha önceden kemoterapi gibi üreme hücrelerine zarar verebilen tedaviler ve yumurtalıkların alınması gibi üreme fonksiyonlarının kaybedilmesine yol açabilecek ameliyatlar öncesinde yumurta dondurmaya izin veriliyordu. Mevzuattaki değişiklikle ve klinik uygulamaya göre, yumurtalık rezervleri azalmış, ailesinde erken menopoz öyküsü olan veya belirli bir yaşın üstünde olan, dolayısıyla doğurganlıkta yaşa bağlı azalma riskiyle karşı karşıya olan kadınlar da artık yumurta dondurabiliyor. Ancak mevzuata göre bekârken yumurta dondurabilen bu kadınların, dondurulmuş yumurtalarını tüp bebek yoluyla kullanmak istediklerinde evli olmaları gerekiyor. Diğer yandan, ülkemizde sperm ve yumurta bağışının mümkün olmadığını hatırlamakta fayda var. Bu kısıtlamalar dikkate alındığında, mevcut yumurta dondurma politikası nasıl değerlendirilmeli? 2014’teki mevzuat değişikliği ilk bakışta kadınların üreme haklarının genişlemesi olarak görülebilir ama gerek başka ülkelerdeki politika yaklaşımları ile karşılaştırmalı düşünüldüğünde gerekse ülkemizde yumurtalarını donduran kadınların deneyimleri ve tercihleri düşünüldüğünde konunun sorunlu olduğu görülmektedir. Makalede, önce yumurta dondurma literatürüne ve “tıbbi – tıbbi olmayan” ayrımına değiniliyor. Ardından başka ülkelerde görülen politika yaklaşımlarının çeşitliliğine dikkat çekiliyor. Daha sonra ülkemizdeki uygulamalara eğilip, mevzuatın mevcut araştırmalarda beliren yumurta donduran kadın profiline uygunsuzluğuna işaret ediliyor. Bu doğrultuda, 2014 yılı mevzuat değişikliği, iktidarın çocuk yapmayı teşvik etmesi (pronatalizm) ve kültürel muhafazakârlık kaynaklı kaygıları ile açıklanıyor: genç yaşta ve henüz yumurtalar sağlıklı ve bolken yumurta dondurmaya izin verilmemesinin ardında evliliğin ve anneliğin ötelenmesi konusundaki endişelerin yattığı iddia ediliyor. 2014 düzenlemeleri ancak sınırlı bir grup kadına belirli şartlar çerçevesinde bir nevi son çare olarak yumurta dondurmaya izin verilmesi olarak yorumlanıyor. Yoksa bu kadınların hamile kalma şanslarını büsbütün kaybedebilecekleri düşünülüyor olabilir ki bu da pronatalist gündem ve toplumsal normlar açısından arzu edilebilir bir ihtimal olarak görünmüyor. Dolayısıyla, bu zamana kadar toplumsal normlara uygun yaşamamış kadınlara, mevcut yumurta dondurma politikası gecikmiş olarak da olsa normlara uyabilmek için bir fırsat sunuyor, ekstra zaman tanıyor denilebilir. Yazıda, son olarak bir feminist politika konusu olarak yumurta dondurma konusunda dikkate alınması gereken kurumsal meselelere işaret ediliyor
Feature Selection for Differential Diagnosis of Asthma and COPD: A Preliminary Study
31st IEEE Conference on Signal Processing and Communications Applications (SIU) -- JUL 05-08, 2023 -- Istanbul Tech Univ, Ayazaga Campus, Istanbul, TURKEYAsthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are two obstructive pulmonary diseases whose differential diagnosis is difficult due to overlapping symptoms and inadequacy of classical methods. The main aim of this study is to understand which combination of acoustic properties is more discriminative, and to develop a new method that can be used in clinical practice. Accordingly, a total of 26 features under eight different feature types have been calculated using pulmonary sounds acquired from 50 volunteers diagnosed with asthma (30 subjects) and 20 copd (20 subjects), and forward sequential feature selection has been performed using k-nearest neighbor (k-NN) classifier as it was observed to have better performance than Bayesian classifier on the singular features extracted. Consequently, the feature set composed of F-max, BIN5, AR(3), P-max, and F-95 has been selected to be the best feature set by the k-NN classifier with 96% accuracy in asthma and COPD discrimination. Shunji İwai’ın “Swallowtail Butterfly” filmi üzerinden kadın mülteci ve azınlık temsilinin incelenmesi
ABSTRACT: This article explores the representation of female immigrants and minorities in the film Swallowtail Butterfly (Shunji Iwai, 1996) from a multidisciplinary perspective. Starting with the topics related to being a foreigner/local, such as language nuances or the concept of furusato, the article then offers a new lens to look at the film and its female stories with the help of feminist theory. Therefore, this article aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the film from current multiple-perspectives, as such a comprehensive analysis is highly needed in this contemporary age of rapid globalizationÖZET: Bu makale, Swallowtail Butterfly (Shunji Iwai, 1996) filmi bağlamında kadın mülteci ve azınlık temsilini çok-disiplinli bir açıdan incelemektedir. Filmin furusato veya dil bariyerleri gibi yerli/yabancı temasını ilgilendiren konularıyla başlayan makale, ardından filmin kadın hikayelerini feminist teori ile incelemektedir. Measurement of differential cross sections for the production of a Z boson in association with jets in proton-proton collisions at ?s=13 TeV
A measurement is presented of the production of Z bosons that decay into two electrons or muons in association with jets, in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The data were cross sections are measured as a function of the transverse momentum (pT) of the Z boson and the transverse momentum and rapidities of the five jets with largest pT. The jet multiplicity distribution is measured for up to eight jets. The hadronic activity in the events is estimated using the scalar sum of the pT of all the jets. All measurements are unfolded to the stable-particle level and compared with predictions from various Monte Carlo event generators, as well as with expectations at leading and next-to-leading orders in perturbative quantum chromodynamics
