    How to struggle with exclusionary right-wing populism: evidence from Turkey

    This paper investigates the new character of the strategy of the Republican People's Party (CHP) using populism to combat the success of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP). We consider populism along a left-right axis in terms of the differentiation of exclusionary and inclusionary approaches and conduct a content analysis of campaign speeches by Ekrem Imamoglu during the 2019 local elections, as well as speeches of the party elites given during the currency crisis of 2018 and the COVID-19 pandemic. We argue that an alternative to the exclusionary right-wing populism may construct images of egalitarianism, participatory budgeting, and agrarian populism instead of mobilizing security or survival issues

    Zero waste fashion design is a way and at the end of the pattern designing process occurs no cut-and-sew waste. Modular fashion design is a process in that one garment can have the appearance of different designs which can be modified by the consumer. The zero waste fashion design and modular fashion design are considered together as a multiple design methodology to supply sustainable fashion production. Although both design techniques are completely unique, the common aim of sustainability design results can be reached through the combination of the two. In this study, a collection was designed by integrating these two design methodologies: zero waste and modular fashion. If consumers have an active role in the sustainable design process, the responsibility for sustainable fashion design falls partially on them. The consumer is one of the three pillars of sustainable design philosophy, so they have a major role in helping create a balance on the sustainable fashion production and a sustainable fashion market. Thanks to this harmony, the design process should consider consumer-centered design options and consumer demands. In this study, an experimental development practicing method via modular and zero waste fashion design methods were used to create a suggested collection. At the end of this study, three garments were designed for that suggested collection, and each can be worn in three or four different looks. © (2023). All Rights Reserved

Retro music, with its potential to evoke nostalgic feelings in consumers, is used in advertisements, which can have a significant impact on brand perception and consumer engagement. Firstly, a model focusing on chocolate consumption was developed and tested. The model yields significant outcomes. Secondly, a model based on retro music ad viewing status was developed and tested. Significant potential findings were obtained. This study emphasizes the applicability of effective classification models that can be used to understand and predict consumer behaviors, yielding significant outcomes. © 2023 IEEE

    İnternet teknolojisi ile birlikte hızla yaygınlaşan çevrimiçi iletişim mecralarından olan sosyal medya uygulamaları teknoloji firmaları tarafından merkezi bir şekilde yönetilen platformlardır. Blokzincir teknolojisi ile yaygınlaşmaya başlayan merkeziyetsiz yönetişim yaklaşımı, sosyal medya iletişiminde de uygulama alanları bulmaktadır. Bu araştırmanın amacı nispeten yeni teknolojilerden biri olan blokzincir teknolojisinin sosyal medya iletişim platformlarının altyapısı olarak kullanılması ile ortaya çıkan yeni nesil merkeziyetsiz sosyal medya uygulamalarının çalışma prensiplerinin anlaşılması ve sosyal medya iletişimine getirdiği paradigma değişikliğinin sosyal ve ekonomik tartışmasının yapılmasıdır. Kullanıcı adetleri olarak hızla büyümekte ve yaygınlaşmakta olan yeni nesil merkeziyetsiz sosyal medya iletişim platformlarının teknik çalışma prensiplerinin yanı sıra kullanıcılar için olumlu ve olumsuz potansiyellerinin anlaşılması da önem taşımaktadır. Bu araştırmada doküman analizi ve örnek incelemesi ile derlenen veriler üzerinden veri sahipliği, üretici ekonomisi ve kullanıcı deneyimi odağında bir tartışma sunulmaktadır.     A Study of Systemic Approaches to Treating Patients with Physical Illness or Disability in Turkey

    Medical problems can affect a person's physical health, mental health, relationships, quality of life, and the people with whom the patient is connected. Although we presume mental health professionals in Turkey work with individuals coping with health issues, there has been no prior published research. This study sought to determine how mental health professionals in Turkey approached their patients currently coping with a physical illness or disability and to what degree they collaborated with other care providers. Results revealed limited education on how to work with patients and their families currently coping with illness or disability, low interdisciplinary collaboration, and low family involvement in mental healthcare related to medical issues. The authors discuss how mental healthcare providers can use the findings of this study to advance systemic training and improve the use of systemic approaches for patients and their families coping with illness and disability in Turkey

    Alkali-activated basalt powder/slag systems: compressive strength and microstructural characterization

    This study investigates the potential use of basalt powder as a sole precursor or blended in high amounts in slag-based alkali-activated systems. Eight alkali-activated mixes are prepared and comprehensively analyzed to determine the compressive strength development and microstructural characterization of basalt powder-based and basalt powder/slag blends activated by sodium hydroxide and a mixture of sodium hydroxide and sodium silicate. The mixes are characterized from a microstructural viewpoint via X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric and scanning electron microscopy analyses. The results show that while basalt powder-based mixes have low compressive strength values, ranging between 2 and 9 MPa, basalt powder/slag blend mixes exhibit a moderate compressive strength, i.e., 20 MPa at 28 days. Furthermore, sodium-silicate-activated basalt powder/slag blend mixes achieve high compressive strengths at early and further ages. The low strength values of the basalt powder-based mixes are attributed to the low concentration of reactive species and lack of Ca2+ ions in the medium, while the high compressive strength of the blended mixes is mainly associated with the formation of calcium aluminosilicate hydrate [C-(A)-S-H] or Na-enriched calcium sodium aluminosilicate hydrate [C-(N)-A-S-H] gel phases along with the calcic-plagioclase, which afford a denser microstructure. The obtained results show that basalt powder can be used in high concentrations, i.e., 50%, in alkali-activated systems, and basalt powder/slag blends can be a feasible, alternative binder system for use as a structural material.Istanbul Bilgi University Research Fund [2019.02.004]This research was conducted at the Construction Materials Laboratory of Istanbul Bilgi University.     ABSTRACT: Internet of things (IoT) can be defined as the interconnectivity of all smart devices with one another using the proper infrastructure thanks to the technological sophistication level achieved as of today. According to many, IoT is evaluated to be the next disruptive technological advancement which will shape our lives in the near future. On top its contributions to individual’s daily life, there are also many barriers hindering the dissemination of the IoT technology as it works on the basis of big data management via cloud systems which also comprises personal information inside. As IoT operates in a systematic manner, there is a variety of applications of the IoT technology in many fields ranging from smart health services, smart manufacturing, connected and autonomous mobility, smart city, smart farming to smart digital payment services. There is a vast amount of research focusing on the factors affecting the IoT technology adoption in single particular scope of implementation however there is no evident case in literature which studies the significant effects on IoT adoption in a holistic perspective by taking multiple fields of exercise. This research aims to fill this gap by creating a virtual future mise en scene, where the study group is requested to envision the future IoT dominated living space. On this conceptual framework, primary focus of this dissertation is to lay out the parameters having a substantial effect on the IoT adoption in application areas smart health, smart home, connected mobility and smart payment respectively. Latter objective of the thesis study is to bring to surface the differences between the variables acting on the IoT adoption in these focused application areas. In conclusion, implications for marketers and recommendations for future research are also asserted for IoT technology adoption in marketing context.ÖZET: Nesnelerin İnterneti (IoT), günümüzde ulaşılan teknolojik gelişmişlik seviyesi sayesinde tüm akıllı cihazların gerekli altyapıyı kullanarak birbirleriyle bağlantı kurması olarak tanımlanabilir. Pek çok çalışmaya göre IoT, yakın gelecekte hayatımızı şekillendirecek bir sonraki yıkıcı teknolojik gelişme olarak değerlendiriliyor. Bireyin günlük yaşamına sağladığı katkıların yanı sıra, IoT teknolojisinin, içinde kişisel bilgilerin de yer aldığı bulut sistemleri üzerinden büyük veri yönetimi esasına göre çalışması nedeniyle yaygınlaşmasının önünde birçok engel de bulunmaktadır. Nesnelerin interneti sistemli bir şekilde çalıştığından, akıllı sağlık hizmetlerinden akıllı üretime, bağlantılı ve otonom mobiliteden akıllı şehir, akıllı çiftçiliğe ve akıllı dijital ödeme hizmetlerine kadar pek çok alanda IoT teknolojisinin çeşitli uygulamaları bulunmaktadır. Belirli bir uygulama kapsamında IoT teknolojisinin benimsenmesini etkileyen faktörlere odaklanan çok sayıda araştırma bulunmaktadır. Ancak literatürde, IoT teknolojisinin benimsenmesi üzerindeki önemli etkileri birden fazla uygualama alanı üzerinde bütünsel bir bakış açısıyla inceleyen bir çalışma bulunmamaktadır. Bu araştırma kapsamında, çalışmaya katılan araştırma grubundan gelecekte IoT teknolojilerinin hakim olduğu bir dünyayı hayal etmelerini sağlayacak sanal bir mizansen oluşturularak, IoT teknolojisinin benimsenmesine etki eden faktörler araştırılmış ve literatürdeki bu boşluğun kapatılması amaçlanmıştır. Bu kavramsal çerçevede, tezin birincil odak noktası sırasıyla akıllı sağlık, akıllı ev, bağlanabilir mobilite, ve akıllı ödeme uygulama alanlarında IoT’nin benimsenmesinde önemli bir etkiye sahip olan parametreleri ortaya koymaktır. Tez çalışmasının ikincil amacı da, odaklanılan uygulama alanlarında IoT’nin benimsenmesine etki eden değişkenler arasındaki farklılıkları ortaya çıkarmaktır.     Search in diphoton and dielectron final states for displaced production of Higgs or Z bosons with the ATLAS detector in p s=13 TeV pp collisions

    A search is presented for displaced production of Higgs bosons or Z bosons, originating from the decay of a neutral long-lived particle (LLP) and reconstructed in the decay modes H -& gamma;& gamma; and Z -ee. The analysis uses the full Run 2 dataset of proton-proton collisions delivered by the LHC at an energy of p1/4 13 TeV between 2015 and 2018 and recorded by the ATLAS detector, corresponding to an ffiffi s integrated luminosity of 139 fb-1. Exploiting the capabilities of the ATLAS liquid argon calorimeter to precisely measure the arrival times and trajectories of electromagnetic objects, the analysis searches for the signature of pairs of photons or electrons which arise from a common displaced vertex and which arrive after some delay at the calorimeter. The results are interpreted in a gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking model with pair-produced Higgsinos that decay to LLPs, and each LLP subsequently decays into either a Higgs boson or a Z boson. The final state includes at least two particles that escape direct detection, giving rise to missing transverse momentum. No significant excess is observed above the background expectation. The results are used to set upper limits on the cross section for Higgsino pair production, up to a & chi;& SIM;01 mass of 369 (704) GeV for decays with 100% branching ratio of & chi; & SIM;01 to Higgs (Z) bosons for a & chi;& SIM;01 lifetime of 2 ns. A model-independent limit is also set on the production of pairs of photons or electrons with a significant delay in arrival at the calorimeter

    Measurement of the properties of Higgs boson production at ?s=13 TeV in the H? ?? channel using 139 fb-1 of pp collision data with the ATLAS experiment

    Measurements of Higgs boson production cross-sections are carried out in the diphoton decay channel using 139 fb(-1) of pp collision data at root s = 13TeV collected by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. The analysis is based on the definition of 101 distinct signal regions using machine-learning techniques. The inclusive Higgs boson signal strength in the diphoton channel is measured to be 1.04(+0.10) (-0.09). Cross-sections for gluon-gluon fusion, vector-boson fusion, associated production with a W or Z boson, and top associated production processes are reported. An upper limit of 10 times the Standard Model prediction is set for the associated production process of a Higgs boson with a single top quark, which has a unique sensitivity to the sign of the top quark Yukawa coupling. Higgs boson production is further characterized through measurements of Simplified Template Cross-Sections (STXS). In total, cross-sections of 28 STXS regions are measured. The measured STXS cross-sections are compatible with their Standard Model predictions, with a p-value of 93%. The measurements are also used to set constraints on Higgs boson coupling strengths, as well as on new interactions beyond the Standard Model in an effective field theory approach. No significant deviations from the Standard Model predictions are observed in these measurements, which provide significant sensitivity improvements compared to the previous ATLAS results
