    Get PDF
The study aims to analyses the university teachers starting conditions and the galician universities institutional intervention to face the crisis derived from CoVId-19 and a future blended- learning. It is a sequential mixed study in two phases, 1-quantitative: it collects the teachers' perception of teaching with a questionnaire; 2- qualitative: an institutional intervention documentary analysis was developed. The results show that 68.07% of the teaching staff have never taught online, in general they bet on a content transmission methodology and evaluation and there are conceptual inconsistencies in the didactic dimensions of their proposals. The institutional intervention is aimed at providing technical support to cover the instrumental deficiencies, with the absence of the pedagogical analysis; and articulate control measures. The conclusions show weakened teacher agency and their poor preparation to face a quality mixed education in the future.Rede de investigación TELgaliciaXunta de Galicia | Ref. ED431D 2017/1

Mathematics achievement and its difficulties in elementary school: a multicomponent analysis of longitudinal predictors

    No full text
Currently, it is not clear how mathematical skills are acquired throughout schooling, what cognitive processes are linked to individual differences, and how these processes relate to specific skills required for competent performance. In this regard, the purpose of this project is to longitudinally analyze the relationships between general and specific mastery skills and mathematical performance, specifically in calculation and arithmetic problem-solving, as demonstrated by approximately 400 children in early educational levels. The data obtained will be analyzed to: (1) Determine to what extent cognitive, linguistic, and domain-specific skills longitudinally predict the development of mathematical skills throughout primary education, (2) investigate how the relationships between cognitive, linguistic, and domain-specific skills change during the acquisition of different mathematical skills, and (3) analyze the ability of cognitive, linguistic, and domain-specific skills to classify students (those with persistent mathematical difficulties versus typical mathematical performance) based on their previous performance in calculation and arithmetic problem-solving. Regarding the methodology, standardized tests will be used to ensure the uniqueness of processes and attempt to address some of the inconsistencies found in the literature. The theoretical framework is based on an integrative interpretative framework that can provide new data for diagnosis and intervention purposes

The recent Spanish migration in Germany and the United Kingdom: migration identities in question

    Get PDF
The United Kingdom and Germany are two destinations of the recent Spanish emigration that began to grow in 2008. The approaches to address it, both from the research and even from the political and media angle or viewpoint, are diverse and not without controversy: emigration, exile, young entrepreneurs, etc. The objective of this article is to understand how the protagonists themselves conceive their migration project, within a diversity of profiles and very heterogeneous trajectories that have led them to leave for Europe. This qualitative study, carried out in the United Kingdom and Germany, provides a clearer picture of the perception of their projects and the influence of the socioeconomic situation in Spain on their migration decision-making. Specifically, the results reveal three types of perceptions about migratory identity, where activism or greater political-social sensitivity play a relevant role, and also an historical comparison with respect to the emigration in the 1960s.Ministerio de Economía, Industria y Competitividad | Ref. Cannabis use among adolescents: Risk pattern, implications and possible explanatory variables

    Get PDF
In contrast to the achievements with other substances, it has not yet been possible to reduce the levels of cannabis use, the most used illegal substance among Spanish adolescents. The objective of this paper consists of updating levels of use (incorporating ages 12 and 13), estimating high-risk use and analyzing possible associated variables. For this purpose, a correlational method was used consisting of the administration of a survey to compulsory secondary school and high school students from the autonomous community of Galicia (Spain) in 2016. Results obtained from a sample of 3,882 Galician adolescents aged 12 to 18 (M = 14.52; SD = 1.72) reveal that the percentage of adolescents currently using tobacco and cannabis is higher than that of those using tobacco alone (12.7% vs 10.5%). This implies not only a higher probability of using other illegal substances, but also of developing rather high-risk use pattern, binge drinking or even experiencing problematic Internet use or cyberbullying. From a preventive perspective, the results reveal that personal variables such as self-esteem, assertiveness, social skills or impulsiveness have really weak explanatory power compared with other variables related to the setting of rules and limits by parents. One of the main conclusions of this paper is the need to adopt a comprehensive prevention approach.

This paper analyses the recent judgments of the Seventh Chamber, Extended Composition, of the General Court of 11 June 2025 in Cases T‐681/22 and T‐781/22. In those judgments, the Court dismissed in their entirety the actions for annulment brought by, respectively, the Spanish State and an organisation of Galician fishing companies against Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2022/1614 of 15 September 2022 identifying existing deep‐sea fishing areas and establishing a list of areas where vulnerable marine ecosystems are known to occur or are likely to occur. The applicants had proposed in the alternative a plea of illegality of Regulation (EU) 2016/2336 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 14 December 2016 laying down specific conditions applicable to fishing for deep‐sea stocks in the North‐East Atlantic and provisions concerning fishing in international waters of the North‐East Atlantic and repealing Council Regulation (EC) No 2347/2002, which has also been dismissed by the General Court

Molecular insight into taste and aroma of sliced dry-cured ham induced by protein degradation undergone high-pressure conditions

    No full text
High pressure processing (HPP) is currently being developed to increase the shelf-life of sliced dry-cured ham in convenience package without detrimental effects on texture and sensorial characteristics. This study is focused on protein degradation under pressure conditions and its contribution to taste and aroma. Samples of sliced dry-cured ham undergone HPP (600 Pa, 0–35 °C) were analyzed from different approaches including proteomic and chemical analysis (amino acids and volatile compounds). Proteomic analysis revealed that high-pressure conditions caused a higher level of proteolysis, displaying that actin (ACTC1) was differentially degraded, unlike myosin. Furthermore, main Strecker metabolites-isoleucine and leucine-were more abundant at lower temperatures as opposed to 2-methyl butanal and 3-methyl butanal under HPP. Moreover, this study confirmed that HPP affected positively linear aldehydes (pentanal, hexanal, heptanal and nonanal) because of produce a decrease of them, which could improve flavor and taste of dry-cured ham.Instituto Nacional de Investigación y Tecnología Agraria y Alimentaria (INIA) | Ref. Assessing the influence of technosol and biochar amendments combined with Brassica juncea L. on the fractionation of Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn in a polluted mine soil

    No full text
Purpose: Soil metal pollution is a widespread problem around the world and remediation of these soils is difficult. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of two different strategies on the chemical fractions of metals in a soil of a depleted copper mine: (1) amending with a mixture of a technosol made of wastes and biochar and (2) amending combined with planting vegetation (Brassica juncea). Materials and methods A 3-month greenhouse experiment was carried out to evaluate the effects of organic amendments and vegetation on the metal fractionation of Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn in a mine soil of the depleted copper mine at Touro (Spain). We compared the influence of organic amendments alone (technosol + biochar) and combined with mustard plants (Brassica juncea L.). Results and discussion: The results showed that amending with a technosol made of wastes promoted plant growth (from 0.7 to 2.9 g of biomass produced) and reduced the CaCl2-extractable metal concentration in soil, reduced the mobility factor of Cu from 18.3 to 1.6, Ni from 47.5 to 2.3 and Pb from 17.9 to 2.1, and also reduced the concentration of metals in the mobile soil fractions. It was not possible to grow up Brassica juncea plants in the untreated settling pond soil due to the extremely degraded conditions of that soil. However, the application of the used technosol increased the Pb and Zn pseudototal concentrations in the amended soils. Conclusions: We conclude that the combination of amending with wastes and planting B. juncea provides little additional benefit for remediating a metal-polluted soil compared with incorporation of wastes alone.Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación | Ref. Introduction: Analysing English Syntax Past and Present

    Get PDF
[Inicio] This book is an exploration of categories, constructions, and change in English syntax. A great many books are published on the syntax of English, both monographs and edited volumes, and yet another may seem unnecessary. However, we felt more than justified in adding to the sizeable literature here for two reasons. The first, to borrow from Richard M. Hogg and David Denison’s justification for A History of the English Language, is that ‘one of the beauties of the language is its ability to show continuous change and flexibility while in some sense remaining the same. And if that is true of the language, it is also true of the study of the language’ (2006: xi). Central to our book is a focus on the syntax of the English language, through a wide variety of orientations that a collective work makes possible. Thus the volume aims to embrace the wide variety of approaches and methodologies in the current analysis of English syntactic structure, variation, and change, both past and present, through a careful curation of new case studies by established and emerging scholars in the field. Such breadth of scope, together with a specific focus on English syntax, sets the collection apart from most others. [...

Energy–efficient mixing generated by prescribed crosswise oscillations of a square prism in highly confined flows

    No full text
Mixing downstream of a moving square cylinder placed inside a square section channel was analyzed experimentally and numerically at blockage ratio 2/5 and Reynolds 200. Three frequencies were considered for the prescribed sinusoidal, constant amplitude, cylinder motion: 0.5f0,1f0 and 2f0, where f0 stands for the frequency of the first instability of the wake in the unmoving cylinder case. Mixing was quantified by computing the downstream standard deviation of the distribution of virtual particles seeded behind the cylinder. Experimental PIV frames were used to evaluate mixing at the channel symmetry plane. Numerical streak-lines were used to compute mixing at the full section of the channel. The power required to move the cylinder was computed as well. It was found that maximum mixing efficiency combined with minimum motion power occurred for the frequency 1f0, proving that optimum mixing does not necessarily require high frequencies and/or high input power.Agencia Estatal de Investigación | Ref.
