Advances in oral peptide drug nanoparticles for diabetes mellitus treatment

    No full text
Peptide drugs play an important role in diabetes mellitus treatment. Oral administration of peptide drugs is a promising strategy for diabetes mellitus because of its convenience and high patient compliance compared to parenteral administration routes. However, there are a series of formidable unfavorable conditions present in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract after oral administration, which result in the low oral bioavailability of these peptide drugs. To overcome these challenges, various nanoparticles (NPs) have been developed to improve the oral absorption of peptide drugs due to their unique in vivo properties and high design flexibility. This review discusses the unfavorable conditions present in the GI tract and provides the corresponding strategies to overcome these challenges. The review provides a comprehensive overview on the NPs that have been constructed for oral peptide drug delivery in diabetes mellitus treatment. Finally, we will discuss the rational application and give some suggestions that can be utilized for the development of oral peptide drug NPs. Our aim is to provide a systemic and comprehensive review of oral peptide drug NPs that can overcome the challenges in GI tract for efficient treatment of diabetes mellitus

Acid-Sensitive Nanoparticles Based on Molybdenum Disulfide for Photothermal-Chemo Therapy br

    No full text
The combination of multiple treatments hasrecently been investigated for tumor treatment. In this study, molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) with excellent photothermalconversion performance was used as the core, and manganesedioxide (MnO2), which responds to the tumor microenvironment, was loaded on its surface by liquid deposition to form amesoporous core-shell structure. Then, the chemotherapeuticdrug Adriamycin (DOX) was loaded into the hole. To furtherenhance its water solubility and stability, the surface of MnO2wasmodified with mPEG-NH2to prepare the combined antitumornanocomposite MoS2@DOX/MnO2-PEG (MDMP). The resultsshowed that MDMP had a diameter of about 236 nm, itsphotothermal conversion efficiency was 33.7%, and the loading andrelease rates of DOX were 13 and 65%, respectively. Duringin vivoandin vitrostudies, MDMP showed excellent antitumor activity.Under the combined treatment, the tumor cell viability rate was only 11.8%. This nanocomposite exhibits considerable potential forchemo-photothermal combined antitumor therap

The effect of protic ionic liquids incorporation on CO2 separation performance of Pebax-based membranes

    No full text
The separation of carbon dioxide (CO2) is of great importance for environment protection and gas resource purification. The ionic liquids (ILs)-based gas separation membrane provides a new chance for efficient CO(2 )separation, while high permeability and selectivity of membranes is a great challenge. In this study, the influence of two protic ILs with different anion ([TMGH][Im] and [TMGH][PhO]) on the CO2 separation performance of the prepared ILs/Pebax blended membranes were systematically investigated at different temperature. The results showed the CO2 permeability exhibits the rising trend for ILs/Pebax blended membranes with the increment of IL content. Especially, the [TMGH][Im] with low viscosity and high CO2 absorption capacity leads to the blended membranes showing better CO2 permeability and ideal CO2 selectivity than that of membranes with [TMGH][PhO] at high IL content. Besides, with operating temperature increasing, the gas permeability of 20% (mass) [TMGH][Im]/Pebax blended membrane increases due to the decreasing viscosity of IL and the rising chain mobility of polymer. Inversely, the gas selectivity shows decreasing trend because CO2 absorption capacity obviously decreased at higher temperature. Degradation of potassium alkyl xanthogenate in wet air oxidation: Enhancement method, degradation mechanism and structure impact

    No full text
Wet air oxidation (WAO) is suitable for high concentration organic wastewater treatment, but the oxidation efficiency still needs to be improved and the reaction mechanism is not clear. This work explored the enhancement of different chemicals to the WAO of typical pollutants in metallurgical wastewater and found that persulfate promoted WAO (PWAO) is very efficient in mineralization of potassium ethyl xanthate. The degradation rate and COD removal rate was over 99% and 96% after 30 min reaction, respectively. The oxidation of alkyl xanthate followed the pseudo first-order kinetics, with the constant order of potassium amyl xanthate > potassium ethyl xanthate > potassium butyl xanthate > potassium isopropyl xanthate. The EPR result confirmed that hydroxyl radicals (.OH) was the dominant active species in the WAO and PWAO processes, and persulfate significantly increased the production of .OH. It was found that the electrophilic reactivity s-(1S) of the S atom in the -C--S and the lipophilic coefficient ClgP of xanthate were the main factors affecting the degradation of xanthate, by constructing a quantitative structure-activity relationship model. The results reveal that PWAO can be used in efficient degradation of flotation reagents, based on which a green metal leaching process and simultaneous organics degradation can be possibly developed in future
