Green Human Resource Management and ISO 14001: Toward Environmental Sustainability in Organizations
The current climate change scenario imposes urgent challenges to different economic sectors around the world, requiring companies to adopt new strategies to achieve sustainable development goals (SDGs) while enhancing environmental awareness. In this sense, green human resource management (GHRM) and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001 can lead to a reduction in the environmental impact caused by business activities. The growing need for decision-makers to ensure a company's competitive position in the market invites managers to integrate people management as an active component of corporate sustainability efforts. By demonstrating a commitment to sustainability, companies can contribute to economic growth, individual well-being, and environmental preservation. The purpose of this study is to analyze current knowledge on GHRM and ISO 14001 and their intersection, providing directions for future research. The literature review was conducted using the PRISMA methodology and bibliometric analysis (performance analysis and scientific mapping) with data from Web of Science and Scopus. The final dataset comprised 520 articles on GHRM and 12 about GHRM and ISO 14001. The results show the growth of the topics in the academic community, especially in countries located in East, South, and Southeast Asia and in Brazil. The most studied economic sectors are tourism, hospitality, and manufacturing. Future research trends indicate a greater inclusion of people in the corporate ecological objectives of different economic activities. The integration of GHRM and ISO 14001 seems to help mitigate climate change and promote sustainable development. The conclusions highlight the importance of implementing GHRM, especially in ISO 14001 organizations, to obtain the active participation of employees in environmental preservation. These ecological practices seem to strengthen the company's image, making it more attractive and helping them to retain talent. BRINCAR A SÉRIO - O design gráfico e de personagens numa ferramenta de ludoterapia infantil
A psicoterapia infantil é a área de estudo e
tratamento de problemas de saúde mental em
crianças. De entre os seus métodos destacase
a ludoterapia, cujas práticas assentam em
brincadeiras e atividades lúdicas. As crianças têm
dificuldade em expressar os seus pensamentos
e emoções, e as brincadeiras permitem-lhes
expressar-se de forma natural. Estas brincadeiras
envolvem muitas vezes personagens sob a forma
de bonecos, nos quais as crianças externalizam
os seus problemas, expressando as suas emoções
através deles. Surge então a questão de como
pode o design gráfico e o design de personagens
contribuir para a criação de uma ferramenta
terapêutica.
Este projeto tem uma abordagem qualitativa e
visa compreender como podem os princípios
do design gráfico e do design de personagens
ser aplicados na criação de uma ferramenta de
ludoterapia infantil. Procura-se aplicar esses
princípios na criação de uma ferramenta que faça
uso de personagens, e que permita atividades

Mediating Role of Basic Psychological Needs in the Association Between Exercise Goal Content and Subjective Well-Being in Portuguese Older Adults
Background: This study aimed to examine the association between different exercise goals and their impact on subjective well-being (SWB) variables, namely, positive affect (PA), negative affect (NA), and satisfaction with life (SWL), as well as to explore the mediating role of basic psychological needs (BPNs) in this relationship within a sample of Portuguese older adults. Objectives: The present study aimed to analyze the association between extrinsic and intrinsic motivation for exercise, basic psychological needs (BPNs), and subjective well-being (SWB) in older Portuguese people. Methods: The sample study constituted 298 individuals (233 females, 65 males), aged between 60 and 90 years (M = 68.43; SD = 6.48). Through model four of the Process macro for SPSS version 3.5, a simple mediation analysis was carried out. Results: The results show that BPNs mediated the relationship between goal content for exercise health management and positive affect (PA) and satisfaction with life (SWL); goal content for exercise skill development and PA; goal content for exercise image, PA, and SWL; and goal content for exercise social affiliation and PA. Conclusions: Thus, we can conclude that BPNs stand out as a relevant mediator in the relationship between goal content for exercise and SWB variables, which reinforces the importance of BPNs in SWB promotion in the older population.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Anthropometric and Body Composition Changes After Bariatric Surgery—The Effect of Sex, Age, and Type of Surgery
The authors would like to thank Fundação Fernando Pessoa for the support in conducting this research.Article number - 28The rise in obesity and its associated health problems increases the need for therapeutic approaches such as bariatric surgery. Therefore, this study aims to explore the changes in the anthropometric and body composition characteristics of patients undergoing bariatric surgery. A retrospective longitudinal study was conducted in subjects ≥ 18 y who underwent bariatric surgery and attended one nutrition appointment before and after surgery. Information on their sex, age, weight, fat mass (kg and %), fat-free mass (kg and %), and skeletal muscle mass, obtained using bioelectrical impedance, and on their waist circumferences was collected. Their BMIs and skeletal muscle mass indexes were calculated. The differences in the anthropometric and body composition parameters between pre- and post-surgery were also calculated. The participants were grouped by sex, age groups (18–44 y and 45–69), and type of surgery (Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and gastric sleeve). The variables are presented as n (%) and as means (SDs) or medians (interquartile ranges). Student’s t-test and the Mann–Whitney test were employed (p < 0.05). The sample consisted of 57 subjects (aged 18–69 years; 75% women). Between the pre- and post-surgical periods (63 (42) days), their weight (mean: 103.0 (SD: 16.3) kg vs. 91.2 (14.2) kg, p < 0.001); BMIs (37.9 (4.2) kg/m2 vs. 33.6 (4.1) kg/m2, p < 0.001); waist circumferences (116.2 (12.4) cm vs. 105.7 (12.3) cm, p < 0.001); % fat mass (45.5 (6.0) vs. 41.0 (8.0), p < 0.001); skeletal muscle mass (32.8 (7.4) kg vs. 30.3 (6.5) kg, p < 0.001); and skeletal muscle mass indexes (12.0 (1.8) kg/m2 vs. 11.1 (1.7) kg/m2, p < 0.001) decreased; meanwhile, their % fat-free mass increased (54.7 (6.0) vs. 59.0 (8.0), p < 0.001). Most of these changes occurred regardless of sex, age, or type of surgery. SpeechToText: An open-source software for automatic detection and transcription of voice recordings in digital forensics
Article number - 301223Voice is the most natural way for humans to communicate with each other, and more recently, to interact with voice controlled digital machines. Although text is predominant in digital platforms, voice and video are becoming increasingly important, with communication applications supporting voice messages and videos. This is relevant for digital forensic examinations, as content held in voice format can hold relevant evidence for the investigation. In this paper, we present the open source SpeechToText software, which resorts to state-of-the art Voice Activity Detection (VAD) and Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) modules to detect voice content, and then to transcribe it to text. This allows integrating voice content into the regular flow of a digital forensic investigation, with transcribed audio indexed by text search engines. Although SpeechToText can be run independently, it also provides a Jython-based software module for the well-known Autopsy software. The paper also analyzes the availability, storage location and audio format of voice-recorded content in 14 popular Android applications featuring voice recordings. SpeechToText achieves 100% accuracy for detecting voice in unencrypted audio/video files, a word error rate (WER) of 27.2% when transcribing English voice messages by non-native speakers and a WER of 7.80% for the test-clean set of LibriSpeech. It achieves a real time factor of 0.15 for the detection and transcription process in a medium-range laptop, meaning that 1 min of speech is processed in roughly 9 s.This work was partially supported by CIIC under the FCT project UIDB-04524-2020, and by FCT/MCTES and EU funds under the project UIDB/EEA/50008/2020.N/
A MATEMÁTICA E OS JOGOS TRADICIONAIS PORTUGUESES E BRASILEIROS: Uma proposta de intervenção inclusiva no 1.º CEB
Este relatório de Mestrado em Educação Especial visou a apresentação de uma proposta de intervenção como ferramenta pedagógica que integra conceitos matemáticos em jogos tradicionais portugueses e brasileiros. O objetivo central deste trabalho visou estudar a adaptação desses jogos para aumentar o interesse das crianças nas aprendizagens
matemáticas, trabalhando, em conjunto, elementos que possam garantir a acessibilidade de todos, independentemente de suas particularidades. Após a revisão de literatura sobre o tema, foram identificados jogos e possíveis adaptações aos mesmos, de forma a poderem trabalhar os conteúdos pretendidos e identificados. Foi levada a cabo uma Sessão Piloto com uma turma do 3º ano do 1º Ciclo do Ensino Básico, com 21 alunos entre 8 e 9 anos de idade (13 meninos e 8 meninas, sendo 4 alunos com necessidades educativas específicas). A sessão piloto correu de forma muito positiva, destacando-se por validar a proposta como ferramenta pedagógica e inclusiva, adequada para agregar os jogos tradicionais ao ambiente escolar de maneira dinâmica e envolvente. Além disso, procurou-se testar a sua viabilidade e adequação para os alunos, analisando o nível de satisfação da turma com as atividades. Assim, este trabalho buscou demonstrar que a matemática pode ser ensinada de forma atrativa e acessível, desconstruindo paradigmas tradicionais de ensino, compreendendo que este pode ser algo atrativo e interessante tanto para alunos quanto para professores
Electrospun PEDOT-Based Meshes for Skin Regeneration
Article number - 2227The application of conductive polymers in wound dressings presents great potential for accelerated wound healing since their high electrical conductivity and biocompatibility facilitate the delivery of external electrical stimuli to cells and tissues, promoting cell differentiation and proliferation. Electrospinning is a very straightforward method for the preparation of polymeric wound dressings capable of mimicking the extracellular matrix of skin, promoting hemostasis, absorbing wound exudate, allowing atmospheric oxygen permeation and maintaining an appropriately moist environment. In this work, in situ chemically polymerized poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) was achieved through hyaluronic acid-doping. The synthesized PEDOT was used for the production of conductive and biodegradable chitosan (CS)/gelatin (GEL)/PEDOT electrospun meshes. Additionally, the randomly aligned meshes were crosslinked with a 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether and their physicochemical and mechanical properties were investigated. The results show that the incorporation of a conductive polymer led to an increase in conductivity of the solution, density and fiber diameter that influenced porosity, water uptake, and dissolvability and biodegradability of the meshes, while maintaining appropriate water vapor permeation values. A Influência da Inteligência Artificial na Competitividade Empresarial
Esta dissertação explora o impacto da Inteligência Artificial na competitividade das empresas.
Num contexto organizacional em constante mudança, a capacidade de inovar, de se adaptar rapidamente e de criar vantagens competitivas sustentáveis é decisiva para a sobrevivência das empresas. Apesar de enfrentar desafios como a resistência à mudança e a escassez de competências técnicas, a Inteligência Artificial tem demonstrado um enorme potencial para impulsionar o desempenho organizacional.
O principal objetivo deste trabalho é compreender como é que a Inteligência Artificial contribui para o reforço da competitividade nas empresas. A investigação inicia-se com uma revisão da literatura, abordando os conceitos fundamentais de Inteligência Artificial e competitividade.
Para enriquecer a análise, foi desenvolvido um questionário composto por 24 perguntas, dirigido às 100 maiores empresas do concelho de Peniche. Este instrumento permitiu avaliar a aplicação prática da Inteligência Artificial no contexto empresarial local.
Os resultados revelam que a adoção da Inteligência Artificial representa uma mais-valia, não só ao nível da eficiência operacional, mas também na definição de estratégias que sustentam a vantagem competitiva.This dissertation explores the impact of Artificial Intelligence on business competitiveness.
In an organizational context that is constantly evolving, the ability to innovate, adapt quickly, and create sustainable competitive advantages is crucial for a company’s survival. Despite facing challenges such as resistance to change and a lack of technical skills, Artificial Intelligence has shown great potential to enhance organizational performance.
The main objective of this study is to understand how Artificial Intelligence contributes to strengthening business competitiveness. The research begins with a literature review, addressing the fundamental concepts of Artificial Intelligence and competitiveness.
To enrich the analysis, a questionnaire consisting of 24 questions was developed and sent to the 100 largest companies in the municipality of Peniche. This instrument made it possible to assess the practical application of Artificial Intelligence in the local business context.
The results show that the adoption of Artificial Intelligence represents a significant added value, not only in terms of operational efficiency but also in shaping strategies that support competitive advantage
Comparative Analysis of Pressure Platform and Insole Devices for Plantar Pressure Assessment
Article number - 7575This article belongs to the Section Mechanical EngineeringFoot plantar pressure refers to the pressure or force that the foot generates in contact with the ground, varying across different regions of the foot. This parameter is essential in static and dynamic analyses to access accurate diagnoses, study the human body biomechanics, create functional footwear designs, aid in rehabilitation and physiotherapy, and prevent injuries in athletes during sports practice. This study presents an experimental comparison between two different plantar pressure measurement devices, Pedar® (sensorized insoles) and Physiosensing® (pressure platform). The devices were selected based on their capacity to measure contact area and peak pressure points. Results showed that Physiosensing® provided a more uniform measurement of the contact area, proving its efficiency for weight distribution and stability analysis applications, particularly in posture assessment and balance studies. The Pedar® system showed higher capacity in peak pressure point detection. Therefore, the insole system is more suitable for applications requiring precise high-pressure zone localization.
